I'll be 50 next Friday. I have not had anything published yet. But I am trying as it is a life long dream. Thank you both for this amazing video.
Don't give up! You have my support! I've been working on multiple novels since I was a teenager and these videos helped me a lot to return to my passion of writing!
You inspire me ❤
Happy birthday! May the coming year be a new venture into creativity! 🥰
you see that's what I love about writing and other art forms, it's never too late to start. In fact, as you grow more experienced through age, you'll be even better at expressing yourself through art. There is no "peak" because you can grow more and more through your life, and I think that's beautiful.
You kids and your crazy ideas… You have lots of productive time to develop as a writer! I’m 66, and I’ve had essays commercially published, and I feel like I’m just starting to figure things out now. People like you and me have a lifetime of experiences to bring to the craft, and that gives us a unique place and perspective in the vast diversity within the writing community.
I've been writing for years- since I was like 10, but I never started to take it seriously until now. Thank you so much Abbie for creating these videos! They've helped me so so much in becoming a better writer! God bless you
Me too!! I wrote my first book from ages 8-10 but am just now realizing at 22 that I want to take it seriously :) good luck with your writing journey!!
I'm not young and not new to writing, I only watched this out of curiousity. I was a bit afraid this is gonna say stuff like "stick to these and that writing rules" or "don't do this, do that" but this is actually a good list to go by. I feel like a lot of beginner writers just worry too much if they are as good as others, if they make mistakes, or worry too fast about publishing and everything.
Everyone can be a writer. All it takes is to just start somewhere. I started at age 16-17 (i don't exactly remember anymore). And then just keep trying, experiment, invent, have fun.
Like, look, I am autistic and I was told by a therapist that "autists are not capable of creative thinking". That therapist doesn't understand what creativity is. Creativity is what you want it to be. Creativity means having new ideas, invent, ignore rules, doing whatever is on your mind. Wether its writing, drawing, crafting or any other form of art. There is no such thing as "uncreative" as long as you at least try. Uncreative for me is if you don't even try.
Sure, I might not understand emotions and I might not be able to tell how different people would act in different situations, but at least I try and I like what I'm writing. I uploaded some of my writing for others to read, and would you believe it, some people actually liked it. others only said I have a good style of writing, but that the topic of the story wasn't their cup of tea, which is completely fine. People are different. Not everyone will like your stories. Thats why the only thing that counts is, do YOU like your stories? If you do, then just keep going!
Hello writers community ... I am a young upcoming writer all the way from Zimbabwe and i am (15)...
so publishing a book in Zimbabwe is quite hard and it can take up a lot of time as well as money but i am privileged enough to have an aunt who works for the Weaver Press company and I hope it will be a bit easier for me to publish my book which i am almost done with ...i have always loved and aspired to be a writer ever since i was little girl and i hope to live that dream soon 😊
Good luck I'm sure you'll accomplish your dreams!
@@shayladenis6708 thank you so much
Not a young person, but I am new to writing. I have two childrens books I have published. I am working on another children’s book, a novel and a novella going on right now. I started young, writing poetry but was discouraged unfortunately. It took many years, but I started again. Life is a journey and I have a different perspective on life now that I am older. Thanks for all the advice you two give us. It is greatly appreciated.
16:16 I heard a saying once that said: Your not a loser, our real loser is someone who is so afraid of failing they don’t even try, but you tried right? Good, failing is just another opportunity to learn and improve. ❤
oof I feel called out lol
I'm afraid to fail... But still submitted my very first manuscript 😭
I’m loving Parisian Kate, she’s giving all the “best-selling author writing in a coffeeshop by the Eiffel Tower with a croissant and cappuccino” vibes ❤
IKR!! She looks awesome.
Hello Abbie and Kate & community. I am a teen writer (14) I always written on and off since i was little, the classic 'she wakes up in the morning goes about her day and learns she is the chosen one!' I never was able to continue these stories, feeling as thought they lacked emotion and meaning. Last year I found your content!
Since deep diving into character driven stories and the connection with psychology I have started several novels, that, even though I have not followed through with them are still interesting to me. Currently I am 55k words into a story and am loving every second of it! Thank you for being here and inspiring creatives to create! 💛
"...she woke up and learned she was the chosen one..."
Chosen by who???
I find that the best of these stories involve the person being chosen by themselves. They see a problem, nobody else is fixing the problem, so they choose themselves to fix it.
@@matthewwriter9539yeah that’s right. I don’t like destiny chosen characters, especially if they’re just the same or has nothing unique and different from other characters in that universe.
@@Twig_ccj...she is the twin sister of the main character from the last story. Everyone thought that HE was the hero from the prophecy, however the prophecy was mis interpretated.
So even thought she was never mentioned in the previous story AT ALL, now she must go and save her twin brother, and save the entire kingdom almost entirely on her own, with only a little help from her per cat.
...oh wait. That is a Mary Sue character.
I also have 55k words
Im 18 years old and i live in Afghanistan.
My favourite genre for writing is Thriller/mystery/crime and romance.
And I've been thinking about writing in Thriller/crime for 3 three months now . I've outlined, created my characters and other things but I haven't started writing yet.. it makes me really overwhelmed when I see how perfectionism stops me from letting myself go and just write it down .. in our country no one has ever written in this genre.. so if I accomplish my task I'd be the first one .. guys wish me luck!

Me too! I’m 12 and I’ve been writing since I was 5 but all my stories got lost. Also I have no skill and no creativity. I’ve spent two hours trying to find a good writing video. I haven’t written a story since January. I need this.
i’m about to be sixteen and i’m gonna publish my first book as an indie author, i’m so excited and i love to see so many young people like me in the comments

I'm 11 since from 3rd standard or when i was 8 i want to write a book.
@@Levitatingmarsipan IKR!!! What's your book about?
Love this, love the idea of liking what you do rather than striving for the “best” (that actually just sucks your soul out) or holding myself to a wrong standard. Thank you both!
Same here. Lately, I come to the conclusion to just do my best; and have fun with things.
Something I’d like for an episode
In our world of progress it can be difficult for some authors to keep up. I think with how conversations are going in the book community right now a good topic to talk about would be sensitivity readers.
Maybe you’re writing a book with a disabled main character, you can hire a sensitivity reader who has experienced that disability to give you feedback on your portrayal.
If you’re writing a person of color as your main character, you can hire someone who has lived that life to let you know if your character reads like a stereotype or like a person.
If you want to do this idea for an episode it would also be really cool to have a guest as well!
I am 19. I am writing my first ever book. I plan on making it a series later. Your videos have been super helpful to me. Especially the 3 Act story structure, bookish pet peeves and Weak words video. Those came in real handy. Thank you for creating such great content!
Thanks for making this Abbie! I am a teen author and this helps a lot! Also Kate's outfit slays in this video.
Both JK Rowling and Brandon Sanderson were roughly around 30 years old when they first published their books, so fretting about not publishing a book as a teenager is absurd, and unnecessary.
Brandon Sanderson especially, he spent almost ten years writing 11 unpublished novels before his breakthrough in 2005.
I will probably be the same age by time i publish my novella i am currently working on
Yeah, I think publishing at any age is great! As long as it’s good who cares what age you are 💯
as a 7th grade writer i really needed this

Hi, I'm a young adult who started to get back into writing. I'm planing on taking a break from college to enjoy the time to discover my writing process and just take a break from the education world I've built over the course of my life. You're such an amazing inspiration for all kinds of writers, from any place of the world- thank you for what you do and thank you for guiding me to stories and characters I dearly love and hopefully publish it one day
I love the look on a new writer's face after they finish their first draft, and discover that's where the hard work really starts. 😂
oh no...
Second drafts……..😭🙏
@@TinyPrettyNini Fifth or sixth drafts is where it really gets fun. Then comes substantive edits, copy edits, line edits, and the final proofreading. If you're a signed author, this all has to be finished before the publishing deadline. Then there's the marketing... etc. Oh, the joy of writing. 😂👍
@@OlettaLiano lmao fr🤣 To all the ppl thinking writing is easy😅 defffff not that LOL
@@TinyPrettyNini Writing does get easier after several years of consistent practice. Since becoming a ghostwriter in 2009, I've reached a point where I can produce an average of three novels per year for my clients. The best part is, I continue to learn new tricks and tips from channels like this one.
Thank you for the new useful advice Kate and Abbie.
since i was a child, i used to write songs, parodys, and i had a lot of fun without the pression. i was in my own world. when i grew up, i start to write my own songs, and guess what? it was very bad, like... very very bad. but it was cathartic, and now my compositions is way better than used to be. i think the best tip for young writers or artists in general is: just do it and keep going.
you don't need to know everything at once. you know all the path by walking through.
great video as always!
This came just is time. I am a young writer and sometimes I doubt myself as a writer. Thinking my work isn’t good enough but I’m working to overcome that doubt.
Your work doesn't have to be good. G. K. Chesterton said that anything worth doing is worth doing badly.
When you start you won't know how to write well, but you'll get better with practice. Embrace the doubt and use it to improve. Write the trash and embarrassing pieces that must never see the light of day.
The important thing is that you need to write, whether good or bad. The story is inside you and needs to get out.
And maybe someday you'll go back, look at the trash you wrote before and find a jewel waiting to be polished.
@@JustClaude13 Thank you for that I needed to read this.
@@Ohemaamary
You're welcome.
I know about writing trash. I need to be able to write romance for a project, so I'm writing a practice novel to get a feel for the genre.

Love this video!! Great advice for all writers. And this helps because I am currently writing a short story which I have never written before, so I guess I'm learning on what I like right now. Along with many story elements that I love to write.
This was exactly what I needed. Thank you both, lovely ladies, so much! ❤
I love all your videos they have helped me so much with editing and writing my first book! 📕 😊❤
Always so motivated by you and Kate's knowledge
Hello! I have been writing for the past year. I used to love writing but I lost my passion during the bustle of college life. Your videos are so helpful to fine-tune things and for my confidence! Thank you, ladies. ❤
I can't thank you ladies enough, for the source of encouragement, inspiration, and motivation your videos, books, and podcasts have helped me recommit to my writing. 😊❤

Thanks so much! You really helped me, and I'll take these tips to heart.
Oh, this will be awesome! Can't wait! 😁
Solid advice even for writers who aren't new!
I've been writing professionally for about 5 years abut it's good to have other writers confirm things that I already know while telling me things that I may not think about often. Like not worry about publishing too much and knowing your editing process which keeps evolving as time goes on.
Dear Kate and Abbie! Thanks for what you’ve shared in this video! As a young writer I want to learn everything I can about writing, but while there is SO much information about the Hero’s Journey, there is not much on the Heroine’s Journey. I was wondering if one of you could cover this topic in one of your videos. That would be so helpful 😊 thanks
I am a young teen and have been writing a book on and off for the last four years. By now, I have 224 pages and am happy with the content. Thanks for your amazing tips Abby, they really helped.
hi Abbie! I feel like this video will reach so many younger authors like me -- I am thirteen, a teen author and I'm currently writing my first ever fantasy novel. I've been writing since the age of 9, and now I'm almost 28,000 words into my new book (which I have a goal will come out November this year!) Your videos and this podcast have helped me in developing skills and knowledge in the field of writing. I love to write, and it's because of you that I am able to learn and apply new things. You are a huge inspiration, Abbie, so thank you so much and best wishes to you and Kate, too!!
So much in this video I agree with when discussing creativity and how it can be a detriment to compare our work to others as well as criticisms made by those who don’t understand that the process is always changing and growing and it’s a dynamic environment. Mahalo nui loa!
Thank you for this, I needed it.
Off topic but I love Kate's outfits. 😆❤️
Same here, in that I'm not a young or a new writer. I started when I was a teenager, then life side tracked it. When Covid hit and we couldn't go anywhere I picked it up again with the intention of finishing one story. And now 6 are done and working on the 7th of the series! Thanks ladies for your inspiration and teaching 😊
You are so nice and positive 💜 I think many of your tips can also be applied on any other type of art
I appreciate you two so much! Thank you for creating this video. It's very encouraging as a teen writer to get this sort of advice from experienced authors, especially when it's so easy to compare your writing to others and go down the path of not believing in yourself and eventually becoming sedentary. Again, thank you. This is exactly what I needed to hear. 💛
Just wanted to jump in and say how awesome you guys are. Your advice is welcome. I’m in Prowritingaid fantasy week and your name keeps popping up in the chat. You are loved all over the world.
You ladies are lovely; and you give such great and practical advice.
Also, your outfits are smashing it!
I just started reading The Otherworld for the second time. My goodness the character voice is incredible! Such a great job.
Ooo the new editing is clean!
Hi Abbie! I just wanted to ask if you would be doing another virtual writing retreat this june? I love it so much, but unfortunately I caught it just at the end last time, and was hoping that you might be doing another one this year! Thank you so much for making these awesome videos. Every time I watch your videos, I end up re-writing half my book... one might think that would be aggravating, but I love it, because each rewrite is better than the last ❤
Perfect timing ❤
I'm 15, and finishing my first draft this year (120k and in desperate need of revision) was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. Writing has always been a passion and a hobby, but i have no intentions of it becoming a job, and for a while i thought that meant it was worthless. But this channel has helped me through it fir years now. Thanks for doing what yall do.
I really enjoyed this!
I am a painter and writer. I really like the idea of behaving like a painter towards your work. I really love your channel, I am glad I got to find
it. My favourite genre is fanatasy. I like other genres too, but I find fantasy far more, than any other genre.
I’ve been writing since I was 6 or 7, and now in my sophomore year of highschool, I’m realizing that this, Writing? Is something I’m really great at doing. I’ve always been good at words on paper, or moves on a dance floor more than talking. And like all your videos, I’m sure this one will help so much :)
That last point really hit home. Experiencing things. Personal feelings.
Many settings and characters are based on places I’ve been to or people I know (other personally or via other stories). Every story reflects the writer in some way. And I know my style definitely involves a lot of tidbits I gathered from places, other stories, little facts, etcetera, as well as a need to have some thematic and symbolic coherence.
In my sci-fi concept especially, there are planet with locales similar to ones I’ve been to myself. And when I was in those places, I really kept imagining how congruent they were with the places I’d made up already. There’s this multilayered bridge in Porto which I used in a city. Some of the mountain ranges in western Slovenia gelled well with a preestablished mountainous world and the landscape around the Mosel river served as a reference for the warmest region of an otherwise cold planet.
It can be spectacular to look back. Look back at earlier ideas and see how an early concept created so many spores that led to a concept often becoming bigger, but a concept can definitely also grow more focused and coherent. Certain ideas I had in mind for my sci-fi concept has become so much bigger. It initially started as a pretty barebones and unoriginal idea of a dry mining planet with harsh conditions where outlaws reigned. That planet has now faded into one of my lower priority places, when it comes to characters I feel most invested in. And the main character is now a higher entity who’s taken interest in studying the ‘little people’. In the case of sci-fi planets, I really wanted to flesh them out. Almost like they are characters of their own. As much as I like Star Wars, you can sum up a lot of planets by their aesthetics. Desert planet. Forest moon. City planet. There are so many planets there, so it’s hard to flesh them out much. I made sure to give all planets distinct cultures, characters and issues, as well as providing different biomes per planet.
The raw grit, the simply… working on it… the writing itself has been a bit tough sometimes. But lately I’ve been more consistent, making headway on one project in particular and within that project, one duo of characters in particular. And I’m now on my way to my eighth chapter with those two. 25000 words or so. Not really looking back a whole lot, even though I know some things that are likely to require redos. I’ve built up my characters and worlds a lot from just thinking about them and writing snippets in my notes app. But actually being busy with those characters and following their story from one scene to the next gave me so many spontaneous insights about them and the story as a whole. Such a great thing to do is indeed to just start. As the meme goes: JUST DO IT!
I’ve liked storytelling for a long time really. Not in the way that I actually wrote down a whole lot (though I wrote down some), but more so in the way that I played fantasy stories with my brother or best friend from primary school. The speculative side of things has always interested me most. And my first fantasy world still resides story ideas, though they are not too high on the priority pedestal now, as I like the stories I’ve made up in more recent years. Those are more mature and coherent. But they haven’t vacated my cluttered mindspace yet. And they probably never will.
Another amazing and educational video! Thank you both so much! I am a young writer, I started writing a lot of books in my childhood but they never made it past the first draft. In fact I could never write them past the halfway point. If you have any thoughts on how I can change this, I would really appreciate it!
Anyway, when I found your channel a few years back I decided to try and write a book from your three act story structure! Now I am in the midst of working on two books. One is a historical romance, while the other is fantasy! I'm hoping to finish the first drafts within this year! None of this would have happened if I hadn't stumbled across your channel Abbie! Your videos always inspire and help boost my creativity! Thank you!
Well, I'm FOURTEEN, and I literally just finished editing my first publishing book 📖THREE days ago! So, I guess I'm a beginner AND a young writer. So, thanks for the advice! The ones you give, always comes in handy.😊
Thank you it's finally a video for me
If you added these girls ages together I would still be older, but I am just starting to take my writing hobby and make it a vocation (maybe full time maybe not) but I have done a fair bit of writing plays and skits for local fundraising and church plays. Always in front of a polite audience so I didn't get too exited about compliments but once in August people were still talking to me about our Christmas play I realized it was impactful, it was when I found Abbie Emmons channel though that I found the direction and discipline to get started for real. Finding this channel was Providential

Oh damn, you changed the intro. And there’s another one! Also, thanks for this video, I needed to see it.
Awesome video, thank you so much! Every writer no matter if new or not so new, should watch this! It was a very good reminder to really take your time and give the story the time it needs to develop :) Especially now with the pressure of social media to publish as many books as possible. It really made me think and I decided for myself to go for quality and not quantity. So I pushed publishing plan further into the future and will fully emerge on writing and editing my novels
Im finally past that roadblock that was stopping me from writing, and now that my story is progressing again, I feel like I can finish much sooner than I thought.
I want to publish before I turn 18, but who knows.
Still though, spending 8 years on one book is kind of sad to me. Especially with how many projects I want to work on.
Hey, same here!!!!
I also JUST got past the roadblock stopping me from writing!!
For me it was my endless perfectionism decreasing my motive for writing because my story was, "Not good enough" and I had to edit each chapter so much that I only wrote eleven chapters in a year and a half!
Now I'm just putting words on a page to edit later and I've gotten five and a half chapters in just a month and a half!!
What about you??
(Also same here with the wanting to publish before 18 thing! I'll wish the both of us luck!!! :D )
@@user-wt1fn5gb1v lucky. I did that whole “write words down and edit later” thing about 5 years ago.
It was cringe and terrible, but it gave me a good outline for my first draft.
And then, I finally decided to start writing seriously about 2 years ago.
I got about 5 chapters before I realized that everything I had written was bad.
Poorly written. So I kind of just stopped for a while and wrote short stories and fanfictions to improve my prose.
A little while later and I forgot that I had a book.
I just recently got back into writing it, and I’m already seeing a huge improvement in quality.
@@user-wt1fn5gb1v currently at 7 chapters and moving forward fairly quickly.

I will need to fix at least the first 3 chapters, because they are just objectively bad, but overall, I’m doing much better.

So, I am a young writer who really wants to write, go ahead and show my story! But, right now I'm facing a problem which has been bugging me from day one! And you really are correct about how younger kids have more creativity, because I had SO much motivation! Yet now I'm lacking it all of a sudden. Like, where did the short stories of different dragon types go?? I had like >90 parts and I’d show everyone! Now to the question, how do you get that spark of motivation to start?
I self published at 16 and it flopped because I had no idea what I was doing, I didn’t even edit it. I’m planning on rewriting the book at some point and doing it correctly this time.
you are looking right at me, arnt you?

Yeah, I am starting with flash fiction/short stories. I am currently writing a short compilation of them.
I might be 32 in age, but I’m still gonna pay attention here
I'm an old man working on his first book, so I don't want to be taken as someone who is too picky but, one doesn't normally keep tools in a quiver. A quiver is for arrows and similar missiles for hunting or for warfare. Tools are normally kept in a toolbox, a pouch, or on a tool belt. There are a few other places where tools are kept like on a workbench.
Other than that one point I enjoyed the video and I think I learned a thing or two from it.
I'm currently working on a science fiction story about a human-alien hybrid that can shape shift between the forms of his two parent races. I am currently suffering writer's block and am looking for something that will get me through it.
I've been writing different things for years but am just now beginning to take it seriously so i'm still a beginner writer. I'm 35. These are great tips! And even if I know them sometimes one needs a reminder. I'm working on a fantasy novel and i'm in chapter 4 at 12k in the rough draft and doing writing updates on here. I'm having so much fun!
Keep at it! It’s truly energizing to do something you love to do. Loving my journey as well!
@@nikkinewbie6014 Thank you! It is! Good luck on your journey!
@@LiteraryStoner Thanks!
I'm a Freshman who just finished writing and almost finished editing my first book. I wrote a verse book (poems) and I really hope to publish soon. The book is called "Rose".
Thanks I’m starting off as a fantasy author, I’m new to this, but I do have goals of turning my books into a series because that is what the character dynamic will eventually lead to, plus I have a background villain that is orchestrating all the main villains for each book in my series and I do have plans to make him be the final villain for the last book. But man, this video helped me a ton. I want to write a multi view point of view for my story where I can focus several chapters for each character in my story but have no idea how to do this. I have one main character, 3 side characters, and one main antagonist. How would I go about doing this? Also how do I know when my book is ready to be beta read? Also working on putting all my short stories on my minor villains into one volume, excited to see how this process goes.
Hi! So i feel a little stuck, I want to write, but not sure what - most advice is “just write” but I don’t know what or how. Like learning in a structured way. For things like drawing there is a very clear oath to learning and exercises to help every step of the way. I haven’t really found that with writing. With art it’s also easy to know if something is good or bad, with writing you can’t “see” your improvement.
This feels a bit like a podcast. Maybe you guys should start a writing podcast or something, that might be interesting.
Abbie HELP I've written a novella and I've just realized I know absolutely nothing about book marketing. If you do a video on how to market your book pre-launch I will LOVE YOU FOREVER
I wrote fanfiction all throughout my preteens, teens, and even into my 20s. I'm glad I did because, while I'm proud of the commitment and love and dedication I gave to those stories, there is a lot I have learned in my writing technique since then. I'm writing what is to be my debut fiction now and am actually really proud of where it's at, but I think a lot of that is because I've gotten to play with so many styles of voice over the years.
Same here! I'm in my 20s and still giving it a go with the fanfics, but it's been majorly sidelined once I got a job and am now focused on my own story. I always had ideas for my own stories but never knew which one to go with or how to make it all fit. Since I've been taking it seriously, I think finally crafted a outline to the story that's been in my head for years. But what I wanted to share is, when I look back at the first fanfic I ever wrote in my teens and compare it to the ones I write now, I can see such a huge difference in the technique, style, voice. I'm super embarrassed about my teen one, but I leave it there to remind myself just how far I've come. It's amazing to see a timeline like that.
Abbie have you ever thought about making leather bound editions of a hundred days of sunlight and Tessa and weston beast christmas ever i thank both stories would look beautiful as leather bound books
Yes I am indeed a young writer and I might need some guide after finishing the whole story book
I've been summoned 😯
I'm 18 here! Love high school drama psychology stories.
19:00 Even if nobody has called it "Word sprints" before this, it still makes sense. It works.
I'm twelve and I aspire to be a writer It's a job I've alwayes wanted this helped me. I've been stuggleing to find motovation and I was really stressed about my writing so, thank you!
Hi Abbie and Kate. I like to write many different types of stories and I think my biggest problem is choosing the type of story I want and focusing on it. Because I have so many ideas that go through my head and I'll write down all the ideas, but then I can't decide which one to start and which one to dedicate a bunch of time to because I already have another idea forming. It's hard. I know you have to write it when you have it. That's when you're in the best mindset. My best works are not the ones I force, but the ones I let happen naturally because I have a passion/love for what I'm writing (fanfic example when someone asks for a chapter that I did not think of, I have to force it and it never reads as well as the ones I create from my own passions). But I get these ideas and then my heart's moving on to the next idea. How do I stick one out? Is it just promising myself that I can write the other ideas later but focus on this one for now? Re-reading my old notes helps reignite my inspiration for the story sometimes.
Abbie, I’ve been writing a book in my head for 2 years that I’m super passionate about, but I’ve realized that I can’t describe. I just can’t think of the right words. The backgrounds and character designs and fantasy creatures will be super detailed, but I can’t find myself being able to put the appearance into words. I’ve been drawing nonstop since kindergarten and I’ve realized that I describe pictures in my head through art, but i really don’t want to make it into a comic-sorta thing. I can’t even begin to describe things I’ve seen in person many times. Could you help?
Hey Kate and Abbie! This is so totally random but I’ve been thinking about you guys lately.
You both have character “ships” that your readers have taken to heart. Had either of you ever thought of putting a special tier on your Patreon for exclusive to the platform, serialized snippets of story or scenes taking place “in the cuts” between existing scenes of your books or in between the original books and the sequels? Or after the last sequels?
Relationships are so complex that there’s no way to exhaust all the possible set ups and payoffs for arguments, fun moments shared and internal conflict endured by characters in juicy good relationships.
I’ve heard examples of Indie authors putting up chapters as short as 1,000 words to effectively serialize content and satisfy their subscribers on a regular schedule of course. Sticking to a promised schedule would not be a problem for either of you. Clearly.
There’s something about serialization - that anticipation for the next…. And there’s definitely something about bite-sized content nowadays. Short fiction is a bonafide “thing”. Fifteen minute reads and such. 👀. But there is an art and a skill to writing short but still with structure and self contained and yet leaving room for the next. No problem. You guys have that skill.
Since your characters’ ships are already beloved by your readership, I don’t think you’d have a problem getting new subscribers wanting to know and experience more of their favorite ships - without you guys having to write additional full blown novels all at once. You must have some deleted scenes that you maybe loved but they didn’t move the plot along enough, so you had to scratch them.
Maybe you could put that content up on its own account or even run it on a different platform than Patreon. I say that because you guys have a following who are writers - aspiring and other - but then you also now have people who just mainly know you guys for your books and have no desire to become writers. They might not be drawn to your Patreon because it’s mainly educational and aimed toward writers.
It seems to me that you could serve those people who would only want to partake of your characters’ continuing sagas and do so quite well on an outlet “aimed” toward them. Just a thought. 😂.
Lastly, I recently heard about a newer platform set up with serialization as an option called Ream. It’s set up differently than Patreon - and is supposedly more content creator / author friendly. Made by authors for authors.
When I heard about it, it felt like an inciting incident for me 😂but I thought about you guys too 😂😂. Neither of you are starting anywhere near “from scratch” so idk, it seems like you’d be able to leverage the heck out of that platform - more than most - if you wanted to.
I’m rambling now. Anyway, if you’ve heard of the platform (I’m sure you have) then I’d be interested in your assessment.
I don’t know anything about being able to transfer your current Patreon - but I’m sure you could start something new whether on Patreon or Ream or some other platform with great success by serializing new, short, content around your existing characters.
And bonus points if you can do cross over mentions of each other’s and your own characters somehow - like Stephen King and Lee Child do. King has mentioned Jack Reacher in his books. 😂
Just an idea. I admire you guys greatly. Keep forging your paths and keep rising. Stay Stoked and Rock On Abbie-Wan Kateobi. ❤️
I've been writing since I was 7 (my mum accidentally threw out all of my stuff from 7 to 12 ,it was all in one notebook) and I always loved writing but I didn't get any proper ideas . I've always been a fantasy or children's book person . I've even had a few murder mystery ideas but I havent been able to get far in terms of developing them . Now at almost 19 I think I have the one that is what I want to go forward with . Funny enough it's a romance which isn't setting I ever thought I'd write
