- In 2009, the company M2 developed 3 games based on Konami franchises: Contra ReBirth, Gradius ReBirth and Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth. However in 2019 when WiiWare was closed down, these games would never become possible to play again (unless you already had them). Are these games really gone forever, and were they worth checking out?

Honestly before making this video, I thought they already did. When I found out there wasn't one, I was disappointed, but happy that I had a new video idea lol.
Xtremely disappointed the lack of researches at the Gradius Rebirth section.There are replaybilities, you could unlock 2 extra loadouts(ships)after clearing more loops. The intermissions between loops had easter eggs too.
Also one important thing,Gradius Rebirth was a prequel of Gradius 2(not II - Gofer No Yabou) for the MSX which later ported to X68000 as Nemesis 90 Kai,one of the unlcokable ship in Rebirth is the prototype version Metalion.
Go play the MSX Gradius games,you had missed alot of gems in those.

The Wii Shop Channel shutdown and the release of the SEGA Genesis Mini were in 2019, not 2009. But besides those little discrepancies, this was a pretty good video.

Contra Rebirth is fantastic. I regret not picking up the other two before WiiWare shutdown.
Since someone is going to mention it, the Genesis Mini was 2019, not 2009. Really though, time is sort of meaningless these days.

The original "Castlevania: The Adventure" was extremely limited, and it was generally considered one of the weakest Classicvanias. (The GameBoy sequel was much better.) Rebirth took one of the games with the most missed potential, and they made an original game with the same weapons and enemies, basically making a brand-new 16-bit-ish Castlevania. It's not quite on par with Rondo or Super or Bloodlines, but the fact that it made Adventure a great game means it's important for CV fans. It's a real shame we never got it on any of the many collections; it would've been right at home in the Anniversary Collection.

The only unlockable that Gradius ReBirth has is the Metalion ship, which is hinted at from the news report at the beginning of the game. It makes sense because it's actually a prequel to the MSX based Nemesis 2. The "Silent Nightmare" incident refers to the coup d'etat that Dr. Venom starts, leading to Nemesis 2. The music is also taken from the MSX series, as the track you demonstrated was from Nemesis 3 only with Gradius 3 arcade instrumentation.

Contra Rebirth was amazing! I had that one on my Wii and I should probably dig it out to play again.

These are the types of videos i love when it comes to games! Can you do something on Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z? You could throw Comcept and Inafune in there since they helped develop that and also developed the infamous Mighty No. 9. Beck was even a skin in Yaiba which was strange but cool, its how i played the game

If Konami was smart they would release a "Konami ReBirth Collection" with these three games, for modern consoles. Teaming up with LRG for physical copies. Games like that only need a slight boost in resolution, and some minor tweaks. Since M² and Konami still have a good working relationship, this seems like a no brainer.
Great video! I played these on Dolphin and enjoyed them very much. Would definitely pay to own them on my PS5.

I recognize how weird this sounds, but I'm pretty excited to see that a rebirth of what looks like *the Game Boy* version of Castlevania being remastered in color on a more modern system. This is the only Castlevania I've beaten because it's the only Castlevania I owned. What a niche pleasure.
Yes, you can only swing the whip horizontally. It was a Game Boy game. But you did fine, as you can see. The giant rolling eyeballs bring me back.
I don't know if this is the best choice of a Castlevania to remaster, but I found this to be a solid entry. And I think they refrained from too many floating Medusa heads!

Bill and Yagyu are the same height, so the elevation of their machine guns is the same, but when playing as Plissken, he fires at a different height due to being hunched forward.
The secret character BR-W9 (Brownie) also fires at a different height, and she is also the shortest character.
Spoiler Alert!
Unlock BR-W9 by clearing Easy mode.
Unlock Plissken by beating the game on Normal.

I don't know about the other two, but I think Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth might reasonably have a shot at a re-release in the near future. M2 also developed the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and Advance Collection, so there's a chance that a Castlevania DS Collection could be in the works. Therefore, alongside Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia, we may see The Adventure ReBirth included as a bonus title.
Missed oportunity to mention the remixes were done by Manabu Namiki, legendary shmup composer that has contributed with remixes for smash 4 and ultimate.
Wayforward did a great job with Operation Galuga just as they did with Contra 4. I can't see M2 pulling off what they did.
This is a great review of these 3 wii ware exclusive games. If you can you should review another wii ware exclusive game called Muscle March. It is a very unique experience.

Hopefully they'll one day re-release these and others like it (there was more rebirth and similar vein of games on wiiware) on a compilation or at least individually on the switch shop
It’s a shame these aren’t available. Replay ability is an odd thing to consider when talking about shmups. Those games have that built into it…I mean, even if it’s not fantastic, nobody usually plays it just once because they really take practice and refinement to actually play through.
9:27 What do you mean "there's plenty of buttons on the Wii Remote"? There's only A, B, Z, -, +, Home, Sync, and Power. Obviously you can't use Home, Sync and Power for their respective use. - and + are Select and Start. A and B for B and A. and then there's the Z button which shouldn't be used because it's awkwardly on your left index finger so they are usually unused to avoid accidental press.
Another point for piracy! Consumers always win with that method

I was actually disappointed when ReBirth wasn't part of the Contra Collection for the Switch. Same with Castlevania. 😔
Luckily, I still have them on my Wii U. Even made backup copies, if I need to play them on a emulator some day. But, still. Hopefully they will be re-released on modern platforms on day.

WayForward already brought Contra back with their excellent Contra 4(D), two years prior to Contra ReBirth. Both are very good, and I think M² is very talented, but credit where credit is due. Contra 4 allowed many people to a 2D Contra once again.

I Think The short games had something to do with the concept Of WiiWare - Quick and fun games, cheaper than console retail games.
There was some limitatiions on Wii storage space too. The console WASN'T sold with a Hard drive or something like.
The few buttons used on the games probably have something to do with a choice Of making these games playeble with the Wii Mote. Basically they are ALL reimagining Of 8 bit games that you can play with Just 2 Action buttons and the Cross directional.
Good old contra. Still loved despite the crappy games in the franchise.

Also you said you sislike scanlines in your past video. I feel you just aren't setting them up properly. Try these settings on mister on snes with integer scaling on: Gamma cprrection: Poly gamma 3.0, shadow mask turned on and set to Sony PVM (1980), adaptive scanlines set to "dk 50 brt 90" and gs sharpness set to 60.
These are excellent games, and are playable in emulators.

you can be naughty and apply wiiware using tools to a patched Wii if you look in the right places
Buy a Wii and you can easily play these games. Dolphin never played these correctly for me, lower frame rate and slowdown. The Wii plays them flawlessly. A classic controller makes it perfect.

Lol, good lord. Poor POJR is not very good at these games. It shows. Quite a few errors here. That's cool. This is a casual channel.
Also, there is a way to get rid of that awful smoothing/blur if you're playing on a real Wii.
I haven't played any of these. They look good but a probably no substitute to the original games. Seems like they are just what you play if you don't have access to the older titles.

What do you mean that the resurrected Contra with rebirth. Yes the Saturn/PS1 contra was terrible but then the excellent control shattered soldier was released on PS2 and Contra 4 on Gameboy DS is even better than rebirth. It was just that after that there was not any real contra releases for a while up until rebirth. But to claim it was the game that picked contra back after the ps1 games is far from the truth

The RUclips community harps about WiiWare games especially these Konami games. They are Awesome. More like meh to me. My advice for Konami with Contra is that the new games get wrong. The original NES games had times where you can rest and footballer enemies stopped entering until you started moving. The term Run and Gun.
