  • Using Colectivo's in Riviera Maya, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico public transport.
    These white vans, called colectivos, are mini-bus lines that service the route of the Riviera Maya- Cancun to Tulum. These are highly economical and also convenient. You can take these mini-vans from their “terminals” or flag them down on the highway. Just make sure you are in a safe and visible sport when you flag these down. Just wave your arm, and the driver will stop for you. You can also get off at any point in the highway.s
    The driver, upon approaching you, will flash his lights on and off. This is to ask you if you want to ride his mini-van, as there is space available. If you wave, the driver will stop. Once hopping on, inform the driver of your desired destination.
    The colectivos servicing the Cancun-Tulum route run up and down Highway 307 every 15 to 30 minutes during the day starting from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. There are also other colectivos service other routes to places in the area.
    There are two colectivo terminals in Playa del Carmen: one on Avenida 20, between Calle 12 and 14 and one on Avenida Juarez corner 5th Avenue.
    There is usually no fixed schedule of departure, as a colectivo usually waits to be filled before it leaves the “terminal.” The maximum capacity of a colectivo is usually 10 passengers.
    Tips:
    Be on the lookout for your stop. Although the driver has been informed of where you want to get off, it will be better for you to tell him to stop when you have reached your desired destination.
    Payment is made when you exit the colectivo.

    Great drive through the city. Lots of taxis. Do most people understand English

    • @EllisTravel
      @EllisTravel  4 года назад

      Thanks for watching, yes most people speak a little bit of English, enough to point you in the right direction. People’s who work in shops and restaurants ect. Where they deal with tourists their English was very good.

    How do you cross over the highway? Do you just run across the highway and hope you don't get hit by a car or is there a cross walk?

    • @EllisTravel
      @EllisTravel  3 года назад +1

      There are no cross walks. You just have to wait for a gap in the traffic to go across the roads but they aren't too busy, it's pretty easy to cross over. If you wave a colectivo from the other side of the road they will happily wait for you to cross.

    How would i get from Cancun to tulum with the colectivo?

    • @EllisTravel
      @EllisTravel  3 года назад +1

      I don't think there is a direct one I think you need to get a colectivo to Playa del Carmen then change over there . From there pick up the one to Talum. It's very easy to find the colectivo going to the place you need if you ask anyone who speaks English they will point you in the right direction. They are very easy to find and people are so helpful . Hope your journey goes well for you and thank you for watching 👍

    Are the collectivos wheelchair accessible?

    • @EllisTravel
      @EllisTravel  Год назад +1

      I don’t think so I think it would have to be folded up to fit in and I didn’t see any with ramps unfortunately.

    Are the collectivos driving also in the late evening or night?

    • @EllisTravel
      @EllisTravel  3 года назад

      I think so. The latest we used them to return was 8pm but I think they would run in the late evening but I don’t actually know what time they finish. Sorry I could not be of more help. Hopefully someone else on here may be able answer that for you. Thanks for watching 👍

    Can we use these from airport to Playa de Carmen?

    • @EllisTravel
      @EllisTravel  3 года назад

      I’m sorry I’m not too sure as we had our own transfers but I didn’t notice any colectivos at the airport . There is a bus I think you can book with your luggage but hopefully someone who knows better might be able to help you out more on this question. Thanks for watching my video though 👍

    • @brettparnell8254
      @brettparnell8254 2 года назад

      No, they don't go to the airport. You can take an ADO bus between the airport and PDC for just under 200 pesos, or to Cancun for 94 pesos.

    How do you tell the driver to stop when you want to get off?

    • @EllisTravel
      @EllisTravel  2 года назад +1

      We used to call out the name of the place as we were approaching it…or if your not sure what the place is called you could shout aqui por favor (here please) the driver will just pull over when you ask. Hope the video is helpful and thank you for watching👍

    Do they know when you ask them where to take you back to the hotel??

    • @EllisTravel
      @EllisTravel  4 года назад

      Yes they are familiar with all the hotels so they know where your going when you say the name of your hotel but we used to remind the driver when we knew we were getting close to our hotel. As most people just get on and shout out when they want to get off. They will stop whenever you ask so it’s useful to look for a landmark close by the hotel so you can remind the driver of your stop. Thanks you for watching hope you found my video useful 👍

    Can someone show on map where in playa del carmen are colectivo pick-up and drop-off points?

    • @EllisTravel
      @EllisTravel  2 года назад

      Sorry I can’t show you on a map but you don’t need to worry. We didn’t know where they were we just asked local people and they told us where we needed to go. Depending on where you want to get to from Playa Del Carmen the pick ups are in different places . People are friendly and were very kind in helping us so I think asking them is your best option.
