Was creek fishing today for panfish and maybe a 12-15 inch trout using a size 10 Aberdeen hook...and caught a 6+ lb largemouth. Biggest mouth/head/neck/body on a bass I've ever seen...and it was in a tiny River...the pictures of the tiny hook in his bucket mouth is AMAZING!
I have used one of those reels and they work pretty well. I don't think you would want to go use them for ocean fishing but for pond and stream stuff like you are doing they work great.
I love that cricket lure, use it to catch all sorts of fish, I've caught smallmouth, largemouth, panfish, rock bass, trout, stripped bass, I recommend this lure if you fish next to trees or bushes
The Rebel Cricket and Horsefly are my go to baits on a hot summer day when the bass bite slows. Tie one of the tiny lures and just catch whatever hits it
I actually have that exact daiwa reel,works great because it has a nice line capacity and speed,i used it in the ocean for bigger fish and it has done it's part
love my Dock Demon. I modified the reel it came with to fit one of my "PEN" rods when I put my Zebco ZSE 20 reel on my Dock Demon rod. love tiny rod fishing just for the challenge.
My wife uses a Daiwa Sweepfire. Really good reel for the price, but she hates that it is anti-reverse only. I would recommend it if that is not an issue for you, though.
@FirstStateFishing you don't need to pull hand back far. Gently pull rod tip slightly towards you, then push rod tip away from you fast to flex the rod to cast far. 😊
The Rebel crick hopper is my favorite lure. You can pretty much catch anything you want on it. I’ve fished with it so much, I’ve had to switch out the hooks 2 times because the fish bent the hooks out👍😁👍
You should try a Zebco 33. It is a spin caster but it is a good rod. My dad had one for 24 years and it never failed. I recently got one and it is actually pretty good for a spin caster.
I found a 5'6" R2F combo in a park trashcan. Nothing wrong with it. It's a fun little setup. Go for it next time you're doing a challenge and see one in your budget range.
I used to work at Kmart and I gotta say. The fishing supplies they had there weren't too bad. I actually used to go there to stock up on weights and hook and everything.

@FirstStateFishing brother pull line out even to the handle of your reel. The place lure keep had waist high then point guides of the rod away from you then gently lift rod to pitch it. Right at the very end of pitch lift rod tip 1 inch as lures it the air. Always be sure to point rod tip where you want to pitch it. Obviously the same goes for casting
That Roddy light (the pink one with lights) is a decent rod and reel, I had bought one in Grand Isle, LA for pier fishing and it was an amazing rod and reel for around 5 years. Never washed it after saltwater either.

For spincast buy zebco.. I bought my kids the camo mini 33 and it's has been a champ. countless trout in small mouth but that said handle feels a little janky but has never failed in over a year
The zebco spincasts aren’t too bad. I have a $40 one in my lineup and I’ve never had a problem with it, but I don’t really use it a ton so there’s that too.
This seems to be the Allentown PA store. It is closing this November. Honestly I don't know how this location survived this long; there were always only 10-15 cars in the parking lot.
With those spincasts they tie the line or tie something on the line you gotta take off so people don’t steal the line. I was in the same sitch as you but I luckily i learned quickly

You should do your favorite rods and reels for personal use,.........yard sales and challenge's,.......then do one on lure's and bate's.
if you like topwater, try using a whopper plopper for bass. 1) the blow ups are insane, 2) basically100% hookup ratio, 3) very easy to use.
