@@coldwhitespring5004 Problem is... any examination of the evil ones will also shed light on our own evil, and it also paints a grim picture of the world we live in. People could spot evil much easier if they would only open their eyes to it... but that's the last thing anyone wants to do (see a couple of the above comments. It makes people too sick, afraid, and hopeless to think about.). Truly evil people know this and they use it to their advantage to control the masses. Bread and circuses... but even that is getting harder to come by. It really seems like those in control at every level now just want a good majority of people to die.

      Knoeien met strooi
      Mr.strooi,
M.Scott Peck Absolutely exposed psychological abuse in families that put SOCIAL standing and there image above the well being of the children at the expenses of the very health and peace of the souls of thier children..
To force a child down a life path for the express purpose of what "others think" is an absolute evil...
to Deny that is to agree with the case of the soon who was artistically inclined and sensitive much to the horror of his parents thoughts of how he would be seen in there egotistical social circle..
      so what's the solution??
they sent him to a military academy where he hung himself and in the eyes of thier friends they were the victims ... suffering from an ungrateful child with every advantage that repaid them with selfish ambition, unruliness and finally ultimately betrayed all his "stellar upbringing" with the act of suicide"...
yet they did everything in Thierry power to show him he was powerless against them and that what he wanted needed l(nurturing, time &l love) was weakness and dissapiontment in Their eyes....
I BELIVE they knew to send them to that military school despite his desperate pleas
was no diffrent then then putting the noose around his neck themselves..
tbe LONG SUFFERING PARENTS WITH A CHILD THEY JUST COULDN'T HELP....
      PFFFFFFF.
      THEIR EGOS AND COLDNESS
      TOWARD THEIR OWN CHILD
      IS MOST CERTAINLY EVIL...
THIS MAN DORS SPEAK TRUTH AND TO REFFER TO HIM AS A KOOK?OR WHAT EVER WEIRD YOU USED TO DISCREDIT A BRILLIANT PSYCHIATRIST, AUTHOR AND THEOLOGIAN ,IS MORE A REFLECTION OF YOUR CHARACTER THAN HIS...
I pray sincerely that GOD touches your heart with the love and compassion and intelligence by 1/2 of what Dr.peck possessed ....
may you one day be free from ego and open to the truth of every day evils that contaminate our lives RELATIONSHIPS and the treatment of our fellow human beings....
That's the only real defense against allowing out souls to be contaminated by such evil...
God bless and guide you to a better understanding of what true evil is and how it will shape your life WHEN you deny its existence...
and remember the greatest deciet the devil ever put into consciousness was that....
      HE DOESN'T EXIST!!!!

I had someone respond to a comment I made about my narcissistic parents on youtube. They told me to read this book. I had two brothers die in an accident in 1998. My surviving brother went through severe depression. My parents blamed him for my brothers death. I always knew something wasn't right with my parents. This book sheds light on just how evil my parents were. I see they were driving him to suicide.

The point of bringing attention to this subject is to make us aware that evil is not an either/or condition. People are good and/or evil to varying degrees and without being aware of what evil IS, . It's easy for people who presume themselves to be good. fo ignore their character defects which cause trouble for themselves and others. Becoming "good"is an inside job and it's an ongoing work in progress. Human nature doesn't change and it's pretty common for people to seek to escape awareness of our own 'character defects" In exchange for others helping us to ignore them too. It is this unearned self designation of goodness that makes it easy for those who embrace evil to have a field day with everything we believe we care about.

Especially if it is a parent and she has fooled most of the family! The lies and manipulation not to mention the gaslighting is unbelievable (except for ones who have experienced it)!! I have gone back and forth so many times. The family dynamic is usually screwed up. My sister was recently murdered and she KNEW what our mother was. I loved Dr. Peck's body of work, and that is my fave lecture of all his recorded books and lectures. Some of the people in these comments are making pronouncements that others people are demon-possessed, even saying that other Christians are demon-possessed (b/c they disagree with them about dogma or the interpretation of scripture. This is extremely dangerous. It was this kind of zealotry that led religious people just like themselves to burn people at the stake, not just for being witches, but for different baptismal practices, for believing that the Earth was not the center of the universe, or even for translating the Bible into English.

I think that Peck;s warning at the beginning is well warrented. And quoting the quote But for the grace of God goeth I is spot on. We all must approach this info with all humility and inward inspection of our own motivations. As I listened to the conversation between the Dr and Bobblie's parents I reckonized early on that the parent's were incredibly narcissists individuals. My husband suffered his whole adult life with schizo-affective disorder with features and narcissisms. This is not the first time I have heard it said that children can be damaged at very early ages while growing up. My husband 's dad was schizophrenic w catatonia. I only knew his dad in his later life and I can't help but wonder what all happened to my husband in his young years. What horror's did my husband experience. My husband has passed on but there are still times that all these questions come to my mind. Indeed I have more questions than answers and the key people involved have all passed on now. As a wife I must admit that dealing w the mental illnesses and narcicism was long and incredibly painful. The biggest question that still remains for me is How much of all what happened mental illness and how much was possession or oppression?

      Yes "AWARENESS" is a key.....
Makes me think of a "One hit wonder" song that came out in the late 1980's that I used to DESPISE hearing it as often as I did on the radio: "What I AM" (I believe is the title to the song, sung/performed by a gal named Edie Brickell and her "New Bohemian" bandmates where she starts off singing ("Bragging"??) that she is:
"🎶....NOT AWARE of too many things...."🎶
(But, fortunately for HER, she "DOES know WHAT she knows.... IF...." ((You or I)).... "Knows what she means"....??🙄)
Like I said, I HATED that song back then, but believe it or not, HAVE come to respect it a little more all these years later.
I mention all this because to me, such a song EPITOMIZES an ATTITUDE that probably has ALWAYS prevailed, that sums up THIS vulgar sounding mindset:
      "I don't give a f_ck or a rat's ass"
Which is certainly one's prerogative NOT to do....Actually give a f_ck or a "rat's ass".
And I suppose actually "giving a f_ck or "rat's ass" CAN BE quite OVERWHELMING--especially considering how ONESELF has "F_CKED UP" (to utilize yet another vulgar "euphemism")....Resulting as "George" in the first account of this ^^^book, refers to as "The guilties".....Or r even just not letting ANYONE or ANYTHING "rain on one's parade"... In other words: "Dont BUM me OUT man!"🙄
Still, as SSGT "Barnes" said to "Gardner" in the movie "Platoon" MAYBE some of us should do a better job at:
"SHUTTING UP AND TAKING THE PAIN!!"....???**
** Must be a fan of and/or familiar with Oliver Stone's movie "Platoon" to REALLY "dig" or "appreciate" what I've said here.😶

Yeah that part is clearly bullshit. Maybe a product of the time though since even today DID is extremely poorly understood (to the point it may even be dropped from DSM since the traditional view of it is most likely wrong) and the links between it and BPD are still not very well researched or understood. What he came across there was most likely Dissociative Secondary Psychopathic BPD. I've had a shocking experience with 2 of these people as separate housemates over the years, and I can understand why people think they're literally suddenly possessed by demons. When they Dissociate, it was like the room dropped 10 degrees, and the air vibrated with evil. Genuinely some of the most terrifying experiences of my life, it's as he says, you become overwhelmed with a feeling of terror and disgust. The eyes still fucking send chills up my spine when I think about it. Friend who was very high up in defence, who had been involved in some horrific shit explained his experience with actual psychopaths as "It's an aura of pure evil and it instantly sets off your flight or fight response" and he was not wrong.

In all cases, I encourage people to first purchase books & audiobooks from their local bookstores. This keeps money in your own community & supports smaller businesses. @@SamStone1964 Yes, I'm most familiar with Dr. Ramani's research. I had to listen to this whole book after my dad was murdered through his Elks Lodge membership in 2012. He was autistic, too. It's unbelievable how evil the other side of the fence really is, when we stop and consider how the other side's life choices seriously affect everyone else's in the family tree. Now my children have no grandparents today. I was glad to find this book because it answered the questions that I had about how this level of evil happened to my mom and dad. It happened because I didn't really know either one of them. They were part of a swinging lifestyle during the 70s, of all things. And my dad was involved with black ops projects through a weekend career in the USN. I know that was a fairly popular lifestyle choice back then, but that choice ultimately killed my dad.

They feared being responsible for their sons suicide and didnt want to be implicated in it. This is typical behaviour. This can foster a bad envuronment and create the elements for evil. You can say they are evil becausr in a way they are but maybe not quite evil incarnate. Refusal of being responsible for their lives. If thats true then they couldn't be important to anyone. The "rise"??? Perhaps. Though, as I think about things a little more carefully or "connect more dots" (of the PAST and PRESENT), I realize that "assholishness"** is nothing new.
** I utilize the term "assholishness" instead of "narcissism" because to ME at least, such a word is far more appropriate DESPITE it's vulgarity. (Though Dr. Peck does distinguish between "narcissism" and "MALIGNANT narcissism" in this reading.) I personally am not altogether comfortable with the term(s) "narcissist" and "narcissism", mainly due to the fact that I detect a level of narcissism in damn near EVERYONE I meet, or even it being a simple case of:
"It TAKES one to KNOW one"???
But even being called an "asshole" is not the worst. No, to ME, utilizing the word "demon" is much worse. Unfortunately the "narcissist" ("Asshole"??🙄) in me is going to be very upset that the rest of the English-speaking world is NOT going to change THEIR vocabulary, or even have the same attitudes about it or certain words as myself.)

Maybe the word narcissist is over used today, and albeit we can all be an A hole at times, but when your feed on destroying those around you to feel full and satisfied, your on a different level of just an occasional A hole. If you only read one book on narcs, THIS one is unsurpassed to this day and helped more than the four years I spent on the "couch" of a therapist whose own narcissism made her REFUSE to even LOOK inside when I handed her this book. But it gets better and you might be tempted to accuse me of making this up, but I swear it's true. When reading about "Bobby's parents" I imagined MY parents in that same place and Dr. Peck dressed like a judge and bringing down the gavel with a dialogue balloon coming out of his mouth that says EVIL! Back to my therapist that day, who after handing the book back to me said; "he's local you know. I'm like, huh? She proceeds to tell me that he works at New Milford Hospital (my home at that time...the town NOT the hospital lol) and is the Head of it's Mental Health clinic where narcmom works as executive secretary! I simply could not believe the synchronicity. What are the odds? And YES she was quite well acquainted with him. Her comment when I first asked if she knew him? "I do" quickly followed by "I never liked the man." Now there's a shocker. More than merely acquainted with him, it seems she decided that she and her new hubby (who was a better man than my father) "needed counseling", and like the narc she was, elected to have Dr. Peck do the counseling lol! What I would give to have been a fly on THAT wall. They only had a few sessions, and mom no doubt imagined she'd be in "control" of the session" as if she had some "user interface" and she'd "win" (cos a "game" is all it was to her whose reward would be "power of some sort". I think it's safe to assume that it was at these sessions, when she found that the good doctor was NOT her "playing piece" in some "Monopoly" game, that she decided she "never liked the man" lol. Unfortunately, by that time, he was only doing lecture tours and writing, and was "no longer seeing patients" when I made a beeline to the first phone I saw after My therapist told me he was local. No narc specialists in 1984 when I began with my therapist whose bias for "her own methods" ranks as glaringly inappropriate for a "healer" who prioritized "her own methods" over my healing and would have lost a patient had today been "day one" of therapy rather than some day in 1984. Far better use of the four years could have been made with a specialist. She's retired now and I wonder if in hindsight, she realizes how big a boat her PRIDE caused her to miss? She already had the training and the Bachelors and she had the opportunity to become a specialist without any extra schooling other than reading the goddam book that I handed to her like the "x-ray" that it most certainly was. I hope she feels an appropriate amount of shame for her priorities in the matter of MY healing. I'd tell her myself but she's retired and living in Florida now and she may not even remember me and lastly no contact info.

"Let us turn now to the parents the true source of the problem. Appropriately they should have been formerly identified as the sick ones. They should have been the ones to receive treatment yet they did not. Why not." If a therapist doesn't tell evil parents that they need serious help then he or she is a coward and not a professional and is an unworthy failed gatekeeper who is allowing evil to flourish and thrive.
