thanks for this reaction!! i'll explain a few points: - the song is based off of the fear or losing the passion and love for making music and making music for others rather than yourself. - the quote 'a dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is more painful' is very relevant here and is shown in the ballet/contemporary dance style - the member who did the solo dancing shots, with the blue hair is jimin (park jimin) and he is trained in contemporary dancing. he went to busan school of arts the live performance of this song is very good, i suggest you check it out!! :)
They've been training and performing for about 11 years now. And pre concert/show they used to train from 12-16 hours a day to prepare for it. Here's a thought that always makes me smile. You have 3 rappers, J-Hope, Suga and RM, all dancing contemporary. Other than BTS/K-pop where would you ever see such a thing? They are extraordinary performers and artists.
Referring to your remark about dance: K-pop idols go through intensive dance training. They will often train for years before debut; BTS was selected and began training in 2010 and debuted in 2013. Several of their backup dancers later debuted in other groups as well. Only two of BTS had experience in dance pre-debut: J-Hope, who was famous for street dancing in his town, and Jimin, who, as others have said, was trained in contemporary and ballet and also took martial arts. These two are considered among the best in Korea; quite an accomplishment when so much of the entertainment industry is about dance and challenging choreographies.
Just to give you guys some context. This was dedicated to one of their members and centres around him - Jimin. He’s the guy doing the solo dancing that you were impressed by. He’s had a background in contemporary dancing and was the top of his class as a student. Thanks for the reaction and looking forward to the MMA reaction :)
No BTS song is (publicly) dedicated to any one member, or, in fact, anyone else. Perhaps you’re using a non-standard meaning for the word? Jimin does have a large role to play in this MV though, and members have mentioned that he embodies the role of the ‘black swan’.
*Yes! BTS are very good dancers and amazing performers! To see them perform live is like witnessing ✨magic ✨* Specifically, Jimin and J-Hope are the two members who have "main dancers" position in the group. They've been professional dancers even before joining BTS. Those two are considered as the best dancers in Kpop (along with Taemin from group SHINee). That's a LOT of people to consider as there are hundreds of groups with 4-12 members and everyone is dancing. The one who was doing solo dance here (blue hair) is Jimin, he's the only one in the group trained in contemporary dance style, which is the style that mostly influenced this choreography. Jimin is known in Korea as the King of KPop, Master of Stage and King / God of Dance. He's actually the most popular Korean idol. He is trained in hip-hop, contemporary, jazz and Korean traditional dance, among some other sub-genres. He is literally the most versatile kpop dancer. Besides all that dance background, I would also like to note that Jimin incorporates into his dance various martial arts techniques he has learnt yearly in his life: black belt in Taekwondo, 8 years of Kumdo and some Hapkido along with a few weeks program for Chinese martial arts.
You weren't wrong about the title being reminiscent of the movie Black swan! They are both on similar themes. The video based on the topic of a dancer dying his first death when he loses his passion for his art. The blue haired member you were repeatedly impressed by was dancing in both silhouette and shadow is Jimin ☺️ you also mentioned liking his voice a lot in your Fix you reaction
“Black Swan” has some references to the film with Nathalie Portman but main connection has to do with the balance with the light and shadow side of our personalities (in the film the ‘shadow’ side overcame her and led to her demise). This album (Map Of The Soul:7) was inspired by psychiatrist Carl Jung’s theory of individuation that explores the Persona-Shadow-Ego side of our personalities. BTS’ Black Swan is about the fear of losing passion for something you once loved (in this song, BTS refers to their music/art), but finding your way out of that dark place/thoughts to find your passion for it again. BTS member RM wrote this song.
❤ amei a sua explicação. Essas pessoas q reagem muitas vezes já vem com preconceito, bem tentam entender o significado por trás de uma apresentação. Fico muito triste com algumas por isso as vezes evito assistir
Love your reactions but please understand at least to me comparing them skill wise to Black Pink comes off strange as Black Pink is a female group and Black Pink are primarily performance artists whereas BTS is known for deep messaging in a disproportionate number of their songs which is integral to understanding them. It sometimes feels like a Western affectation to conjoin these two musical groups perhaps because both derive from South Korea. Each probably should be appreciated for what they bring to the table without comparatives. Black Swan is a very deep piece of Jungian psychology connected to the Map of the Soul concept. Black Swan is an application of psychologist Karl Jung's concept of individuation as it plays out with confusion and in this case the blocking of a musician's artistic drive. There are powerful references to the individual pain experienced as elements of the Shadow (subconscious repressed fears and emotions) enter consciousness. Shadows elongate as the light of success brings them out unchecked, this functionally disabling the conscious Persona's rigid control over things. The drive to perform and make more music suffers and can only be restored in a new normal when these Shadow elements are reconciled with one's Persona. Basically, BTS often is theater not circus so to understand them requires more than most South Korean groups.
The artistry of this video and the message its just stuck in my brain like a melancholic memory Ps: Actually the song has a lot to do with the story of the movie too its just that the second part of this song is striving for hope while the movie shows the tragic end of a mind being dragged and devoured by its shadows/demons.
Please watch "Who is BTS the Seven Members of Bangtan by Suga and Spice" so you can learn about them individually and some info about how they joined the group. I know you will really like it!
I adore 1D and especially Harry Styles, but there's no way ZERO they were in the same league as BTS despite their arena tours. Granted, different expectations, but you're absolutely correct about these 7 guys being quadruple threats - dancing, singing, rapping and acting
They will spend hours upon hours per days practicing until they perfect the dance. They also help write lyrics, produce and choreograph. their music and dance.
Oh I’m pumped to hear you guys did MMA 2020.... kinda wish you woulda done 2019... I duno the artistry in that one with little solo dance parts they all do with just mostly instrumentals of different songs they have done for each person had a different song to represent with some of the craziest stage performances from their energy, perfect execution of all their songs that made every song even better than they already are. There is so much involved in their performances there like live horses, water dancing and something that made the entire place look like a solar system complete with planets lol it’s incredible... and I think one member suga is missing in 2020... but stoked you did that at all bc they’re generally pretty long lol love seeing you guys really enjoying your authentic reactions and that it really never seems forced. I remember the first one you did I think was mic drop and you were really surprised and enjoyed the beat... but I think through the fact that you both already had heard and enjoyed “dynamite” without realizing it was bts and that you did the Celeste video with all the information about bts and their journey to now. That’s usually how army’s are made lol not saying you guys are yet... but once you learn little about them personally... it’s hard not to admire them and have a little more appreciation for them just being them! 💜 Edit: oh yeh I brought up wanting you to see the MMA 2019 as well bc of what you said about Jimin.... who is the one doing all the solo contemporary dancing parts.... he has a breathtaking dance part in that show that is incredible bc of his dance ability (and he has been trained in contemporary dance before bts and also some martial arts I believe even tho the dancing they do is def different from what he previously learned )but also the raw emotion of it is really something special... even tho of course they all really have that little extra something that elevates them IMO especially when you consider the level of work and training that it takes to get them here. As an American I didn’t understand how different “kpop” is to how majority of groups are created ... usually auditions for groups, grow up progressing with music and artistry over time... I’m kind of generalizing but although bts does not fall into the category of a manufactured group the way that is most common in kpop... something that they do have in common is the level of training and dedication is insane to me. Also when I say manufactured groups in kpop I don’t mean that in a bad way towards any of the groups bc really going through all the groups I’ve recently discovered , I find that it is really uncommon for these groups to make mistakes or not be able to sound how they do in studio stuff... most of them sound better to me and the fact that the dancing they’re doing is so aerobic and somehow the singing does not suffer from that which is so much harder than people understand. It’s like go for a jog or run and try to sing perfectly and make it look effortless lol there’s so many hidden gems in kpop that is so fun to be finding right now thanks to the internet lol
I just check out your Bts reactions today and I like it. I'm a new subscriber. You guys are genuine reactors and if I want to recommend a Bts song I suggest Blood sweat and tears and not today and of course Their Japanese songs which I love, They just hit hard.💜💜💜

Jimin was a top student in busan which is amazing.

FYI : All the solo dance was done by our JIMIN of BTS! 💜 Our beautiful contemporary dancer!
I love how you guys inevitably expresses your astonishment, every time Jimin dances!!!!
