Some stations have recently updated their equipment/software so you can go through ordinary channel like the locals with Chinese ID card do. Try it at next time in big cities like Shenzhen.

I think you got a refund for a train slower than your original train. Slower not because of inferior hardware but due to schedule and maybe more stops. Basdically, the highspeed trains start with letter G, but the smaller the number following it the faster it is.
No same train - issue was ice and frozen track necessitating multiple slowdowns and some complete stops! Kills the 300kph potential hahaha ! Long ride ….
Your are a foreigner in China so that you are able to get help when you make a mistake. If you are native Chinese, the story will be very different. Believe me!

Not just foreigners - this is generally the format for all trains in all places - I just messed up :) I don't ride trains very often !
