- Hello everyone! This week I sang Crossing The Line from Tangled: The Series (with some banging fanlyrics by the lovely K-Ty)!
This song has been requested for so long now, I figured it was about time to mark it off the list! I understand why I’ve been putting it off for so long though, it’s a DOOZIE. So high, so powerful (Eden Espinosa is a force to be reckoned with). It was a tricky one for sure, but I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless!

I don’t think anyone caught this in the original song, but when Cass said, “I’m crossing the line” she cuts down the bridge she made. Just like how her mother (gothel) cut down the bridge that connected Cass and her and then ran away with Rapunzel and Cass now is running from Rapunzel.

I think in a way, it hits because it feels like every minor character in a movie. They do good, maybe even great things, but they're just... Not the hero, so they don't even seem to be seen
I feel like there is something tragic about it as well as Rapunzel was trapped in a tower for 18 years, I dare say she's been denied quite a bit in her life, she also took a chance to seize what she wanted, and she Gothel tried to convince she shouldn't want it.
@@maryssaflynn3208 I think it comes down to the mirroring, they had scarily similar experiences but the difference was Rapunzel did eventually get the things she wanted and when Cass tried to do the same, the girl who finally got everything told her that she needed to wait, that's what broke her.

I loved how you replaces Rapunzel’s part with lyrics that tell exactly what was going on with Cass. I wish they went more into why Cassandra ended up feeling the way she did. It was obvious to the fans but it still needed to be addressed. Instead they tried to water it down and say it was because of her mother when that was just Cassandra’s breaking point. There were so many other things leading up to that (her treatment from the people in corona, her dad, Rapunzel, etc)
it wasnt watered down the show literally addressed everything you said

You really can’t blame Cassandra here. Throughout the series Rapunzel was always talking about her destiny. As if she was the only one who had a destiny. She of course cared about the others but it was mostly about her (Rapunzel). As if Rapunzel saw the others as her helpers. In 1:15 I think Cass was trying to explain this.

It's an amazing series, personally Varian is my favorite, I won't spoil anything, but holy shit-

I remember seeing adverts for the show when I was a bit younger and thinking about how childish it looked, after hearing this song and reading about how it’s basically a continuation of Tangled I got a little invested and gave it a chance. Some episodes did feel a little like childish padding, but the highs were where the show really shined and I enjoyed it :)

Hearing this song for the first time, it gives me “The queen of mean” vibe from one of the Disney movies where the children of Disney villains and princesses are in the spot light.

Said the girl who was raised by a loving father (figure) who taught her swordsmanship and combat and let her explore her own interests rather than the role prescribed to her, to the girl who had been kidnapped and raised in isolated captivity literally her entire life
I mean, Cassandra's mom is the one who kidnapped Repunzal, and loved her (hair) over her own daughter.
Not to mention Repunzal literally being the main character, being in the spot light, and being unintentionally super condescending towards Cass will definitely stirr some emotions up.
But not gonna lie, you do have a fair point there.
I thought her relationship between his adopted father that she also had to earn her love for him by being a better warrior to prove her herself as a guard? But was made as lady in waiting instead? 🤔 That mindset grew from her past relationship with Gothel.
@@makka2634 we clearly see in the flashback he accepts her immediately, even if she had pressure to be the best because he expected it, she was still loved and that love wasn't conditional. It would obviously be traumatic if your mom abandoned you for another kid, abusive or not, but it's frustrating to me how Cassandra seemed in denial of the privileges she did have and the love she was given in favor of being resentful of Rapunzel for being a victim of a situation she had no control over
@@simly5189 There's a misplaced anger from Cassandra anyway due to her reserved personality. Hence, she blew it up for more plot in season 3. Plus, Rapunzel can be unintentionally thoughtless, leading with 2 of her friends turning back on her.
She may be frustrating to you, but I find it refreshing for a character that they have awareness that they'll never be the hero. Pretty good route of being selfish for once that leads you to be the villain of the story instead.
Oh, and I don't think Cassandra could adapt so easily from what she expected for herself and anyone even if her father accepted her own limits, especially if that's the thing you have been told or embedded from most of your life.
@@simly5189 I think you're saying it's traumatic but not acknowledging what trauma entails. Yes, she had a loving father but that doesn't change the fact that she was left behind and probably lived her whole life wondering why she wasn't good enough, only for the reason for her mother leaving to arrive, get a fairy tale ending, focus solely on herself and her destiny and ignore what the people around her have to say.
Yes, Rap was traumatized but that doesn't excuse the fact that she did do stupid shit in the present that hurt people, the fact that she was the reason Cassandra was abandoned, and her inability to realize what not to say in situations caused Cassandra to break.

I was SO HAPPY to see this pop up in my recommendations! The Rapunzel bits K-Ty rewrote for Cassandra are an amazing touch, too! They really reinforce how Cassandra felt that no only was she forced to listen to Rapunzel all this time, but Rapunzel never really listened back.

Not sure if anyone has caught this here, but I’ll go ahead and say it anyway. It took me a few listens to realize when Rapunzel told her to just wait and Cass said “I won’t wait” that’s because all Cassandra has done in her whole life was wait. That’s what the later song Waiting in the wings (reprise) wanted you to realize. Until she finally got the moonstone she still would wait. So when Rapunzel told her to wait it simply infuriated her even more and reminded her why she was doing what she was doing in the first place. She was sick of waiting
I agree. Rapunzel should’ve chosen her words a bit carefully.
Like for Cassandra by the tone of her voice and her facial expressions you can see/hear that she’s not too sure “to become evil” but when Rapunzel said “wait” TWICE that’s when she lost it. When Rapunzel said “wait” for the first time in the song Cassandra was getting ready to leave and when she was at the other side of the bridge you can see that she wasn’t too sure if she should break the bridge but when Rapunzel said “wait” FOR THE SECOND TIME That’s when she really lost it!
And for Varian first of all Rapunzel didn’t keep her “promise” so she broke her trust with Varian. And when Rapunzel and Varian were stealing The Sundrop Flower can see/hear that he’s not too sure “to become evil” and to steal The Sundrop Flower but when Rapunzel used the word “promise AGAIN! And since Varian had no trust left in Rapunzel he didn’t listen.
And when Varian was trying to hurt Rapunzel he wanted revenge because of Rapunzel he LOST HIS FATHER! Like he said “If I can’t have a happy ending, then neither can you!”.
You’ll think that since Rapunzel used the wrong words with Varian she wouldn’t do the same mistake with Cassandra, but no she DIDN’T! She did the same mistake TWICE!

100% burned cass's hand by not listening to her during the fight with Hector in a hurtful way also. She and poor Cass should have be fine for real this time better from that than last time. she and Cass are both same faults as equals truly and I'm just saying you would agree with Me to believe it maybe I tried with people of this same conversation but they wouldn't listen to me so I guess yeah just let's
Move on, pretend this didn't happen between her and Cass end of story.
