Otaru is one of the famous historical cities in 30 minutes by train from Sapporo.
The Otaru Snow Light Path Festival is a winter festival held every February in Otaru, during which the city becomes decorated in lights and small snow statues for 8 days.
The combination of the snowy town and the glittering lanterns creates a very pleasant atmosphere.
During the festival many lovely snow lamps and sculptures are built to decorate these locations, which get beautifully lit up everyday .
Various kinds of ice-candles made by citizens are also seen on the canal, walks, or shopping streets, making the fantasy world after dark.
冬の北海道の小樽観光でのおススメは「 小樽雪あかりの路 」。2023年は 2月11日（土・祝）～18日（土）まで運河会場、手宮線会場などで開催。キャンドルの温かな灯火が小樽の古い街並みを優しく照らす、幻想的な冬のイベント。創意工夫を凝らしたスノーキャンドルが見られる。メインの運河会場では、ガラスの浮き玉にキャンドルを入れ、水面に浮かべて幻想的な雰囲気を演出。遊歩道にも優しく照らすスノーキャンドルなどノスタルジックな風景で印象的。雪で固められた小さなかまくらの中でロウソクの炎がゆらめき、オレンジ色の灯りは歩く人々を癒してくれる。映像の最後出てくる飲み屋街は、JR小樽駅と南小樽駅の真ん中あたりに位置の高架橋のそばにある花園地区。ここにはスナックなど飲み屋街が昭和の裏通りのままレトロは溢れる通りが続く。
