People are talking about the original version by Jefferson Airplane and that disturbs me. I am a huge Jefferson Airplane fan but folks this right here is the original version. When you hear the author of song lyrics sing his own song that is the original in the way he heard it in his head. Poetry and song...Extreme talent!
It brings PSYCHEDELIC LONGING AND HOME SICKNESS, A DEEP ACHE OF SOMEONE.. LOOKING DOWN A STREET YOU'VE WALKED DOWN 1000 TIMES BEFORE . BATHED IN A DREARY SUNLIGHT
As a 13 year old punk rocker I shoplifted 2400 Fulton Street in 1987 just because the opportunity presented itself. This song has been a secret pleasure of mine ever since. The guitar is so beautiful and the lyrics really paint a picture. Definitely felt it many times since. Only recently picked up the guitar myself and of course I had to learn it. Usually the first song I play after tuning up. I respect the hell out of Marty for writing it and grateful to have lived in a time before anti-theft strips 😅
I am a mathematician and astronomer born in 1950 and I cannot help but feel intense emotions when I hear this song. Watch9ng the video only aplifies the intesity of the author's intentions. The popular cultural expression, in this case music, that is present when transiting adolescence has phenomenally strong associations with that experience. I feel privileged to have experienced this transition at that time and am flabbergasted that it sill has that magical effect when I am in my 70's. Will our children have this opportunity? I certainly hope so.
Wow, live, it's great, I think it brings focus to the actual surrealistic element to the entire album. It has that "sound" , it's to bad it wasn't live from 1967, because it would have had a totally different "vibe".
In 1969 I figured this 💎(my fave at the time,) out on my brother's 🎸guitar which he gave me for my 15th birthday, my first guitar, just remembered this song from happier times, today💧🌟💧🌟💧🌟💧
i remember me ana friend sneaked in2 the akron rubber bowl in '72. within minutes we were rite up front. then somebody tear gassed the stage for a minit. gracie got rilly pissed. thank you 4ever marty and the gang.... r.i.p. paul
I was rather suicidal around that time lol his Spirit was calling me to join Heaven's Angels Band, but alas i was not quite ready or done with my mission here on Earth.
I have grown fond of Riki Lee Jones cover…so melancholy, she sings it as it should’be, like a dirge. Her interpretation will make a grown man she’d tears.
TODAY, YES, IT DAWNED TO THOUGHTS OF YOU. DO I STILL MISS YOU?. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW. DEEP WITHIN THE RECESSES OF MY BRAIN, REMNANTS OF US STILL REMAIN, TO BE CALLED UPON ON CERTAIN MOMENTS, WHERE ONLY YOU ARE ABLE TO FILL MY NEEDS FOR THAT MOMENT, THEN TO RE-ENTER THE SUBTERRANEAN DEPTHS , READY TO BE SUMMONED UPWARD AS NEEDED, ALWAYS THERE LIKE MY ROCK OF GIBRALTAR.
I checked that out, and thank you for the referral, but it did nothing for me. “Today” and this lovely tune are for me, priceless works of beauty…no comparison.
These might be the greatest lyrics ever written . Pure genius. ❤
this wonderful man with this wonderful song has been part of my life for 50 years. Thank you Marty.
One of the greatest and saddest love songs ever. When you lose someone, you'll understand. A beautiful melody, beautifully sung.❤❤❤❤❤❤

Stephen Branstetter : May you find comfort in music...I pray that someday we might be reunited with those we have loved.
@@laurencehawks1981 I believe that to be true, God willing.
where can i find the orginal version from jefferson airplane?

On the album Surrealist Pillow.
🎂💞🌹🌷🥀
but beautiful, i know...
A lazy and slapdash rendition in relation to the original studio recording.
Drop those names LOL
I hate to say this, but he comes across like a bad lounge act here. Gorgeous song, but...
I agree. Being one of MY favorite songs, it wasn't given justice here. But Marty, is one great songwriter.
He has an air about him when he sings that seems less sincere than the song he’s singing... but a lounge act ... I think not
Awful version of a beautiful song, imho.
Back then a beautiful song... This version sucks.
Arrrgghh!! the rhythm is ALL off. I'll stick with the 1968 version.
