    August & Valerie both gave powerful performances in this beautiful, heartbreaking, and yet uplifting film. I felt they were very equal to each other in their acting roles in the movie & they complemented one another so well. They were so believable as the married couple and their relationship was subtle & intricate in their devotion & deep understanding of one another as individuals who retain their free will independently, although also being wed to each other. I loved it when August said Franz’s decision was personal that only later became political and that the decision, for him, was personal & not political, and the “no” was enough to change things profoundly eventually. Thank you both for your wonderful work together on this deeply moving film!

    Saw the film yesterday with a small, quiet and appreciative audience. Give in to the movie. See it on the largest screen possible. Malick's movies have always spoken loudly and whispers to my heart. He's back to narrative form with a strong, simple message in sights, sounds & silence. 👍

    People often fear to acknowledge that some artists are inspired by their faith, artists like Malick and Tolkien and Shakespeare and Dante and Michelangelo. Great artists want to connect us to the infinite which is what true Christianity does like nothing else, hence so many amazing artists work from that perspective. The best art always is a house with a roof window that expands into the cosmos.

    This is Mr. Malick's best film. Its so beautiful, sublime, and terrible, all at once. Mr Malick's love for nature is there for all to see. Valerie Pachner and Herr Diehl are so real and submerged in their characters I was fully invested in their story the moment it begins. Im sorry Damien I just realized this is the 3rd time I comment this stream, but now I have seen the film twice and its one of my favourites now.

    This is a wonderful film. The actors are very intelligent and heartfelt. The simple “no” sounds very like what Thoreau was talking about in “Civil Disobedience.”

    "The no, that's the sand that jar the machinery." Indifference is the oil that makes the machinery runs smoothly... PROFOUND THOUGHTS BY AUGUST DIEHL.

    Please dont fail to watch this movie, "A HIDDEN LIFE". It's a very very beautiful movie. It's about standing on your personal conviction of what you believe to be true. The landscape is very beautiful, Austrian mountains and valleys, and the performances of the actors, August Diehl and Valerie Pachner, and that of the support cast and extras are so brilliant. Please watch!

    Rich film, beautiful cinematography, and good acting. However, it is a very long film.

      The longest I saw. Got to admit I lost some patience when he was in jail and away from the wife and kids, he also missed the mountains in one of his other interviews.

    It´s really amazing that neither the official version nor the subtitles uploaded so far stick to English;
    leaving aside any word in German.
    The movie becomes riddled with non-understandable parts and emptied of important contents.
    Not to mention for hearing-impaired people..
    I´ve just finished subtitling the movie into English and Spanish; adding detailed versions for
    Hearing.impaired people.

      spanixtan spanixtan may be that when the movie will be released in Germany, with subtitles, we will have the possibility to join the German (English translation) part with the English part ? 🤔

      @@Dam_Dam Well, that's too late: I´ve already translated it all both into Spanish and English a week ago. It seems that so far I´m still the only one to translate non-English parts. Hearing impaired versions included. The subtitles I made are available in subtitles sites as a free download.

    Hm…I’m watching this movie and this interview sitting in Kiev in 2024 and gotta admit with sorrow and sadness that horrifying regimes are still up and regular people can’t stop war, war crimes and corruption. We can only do our best to survive in this massacre.😢

    They missed critical important thing; he believed God, 'insanely'. At this sentence most important word is 'insanely', not the 'God'. Evebody believes God but not insanely(!). That's why he was not an ordinary person, he was a hidden life.
