    One of the best modern knappers out there right here. We're lucky to have guys like EM here that's willing to share FK skills that took them years to learn and perfect. John Tuttle is another gem. Marty Reuter is another.. Three of the best flintknappers in the world imo, and we get to watch em up close and personal from home. Super awesome. Thousands of dollars in lessons for free.. Thanks to all these guys for doing these type vids.

    Your thinning skills blow my mind! That's exactly what I try to do every home...then carastrophy usually happens. I have only knapped Georgetown and Keokuk lately. Georgetown too hard and steppy and Keokuk too chalky and brittle. I think it was badly heat treated.

    • @EDBO23
      @EDBO23  Год назад

      Keokuk has been low quality for 2 years but maybe the quarry supply will get better again.

    very nice preform, that would of made a great before and after thumbnail to show what you had to work with compared to that awesome preform.

      Hey Brad I really enjoy your videos too I made one before with a golf club its an aluminum alloy It's smaller But works great for smaller spalls but you can you cut the 45° angle off of a golf club head and it already has a hole for attaching a handle it works Great at hitting with different angles that you cannot get to with a straight bopper or billet You can hit with the 45° angle with different areas of the 45° angle and get in to some very hard to reach areas.

    Nice idea. If you used a half of a st rdd aight collar with a short nipple glued in it to insert it into the 45, you could glue the cap and still be able to turn it. Also, if you had a domed piece of hardwood that fit the inside of the cap to fill the void between the PVC and copper, it wouldn't add much wieght and allow you to support the dome of the cap to keep it from deforming as easily. Glad to see you today...always look forward to your video's.

    E 6000 Is the best adhesive I have ever seen for attaching copper caps to any handle. It never gets brittle hard and withstands the shocks that epoxy can't handle,

    • @EDBO23
      @EDBO23  Год назад

      Remember you need to turn the cap once in a while.

    How would this weightless copper bopper style work in a smaller 3/4 or 1" size, Ed? For smaller pieces or finish work.. Have you tried one?

    • @iowapanner2223
      @iowapanner2223 Год назад +2

      There was a knapper using 1", I believe, on a hardwood dowel. I tried it in various sizes and don't use weighted boppers since. To open up larger pieces I switch to a large moose billet. Not knapping much lately but now I'm gettin' the itch.
      And yes I know they have a cream for that.😂
