I could just imagine watching "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson" and seeing Donna Summer. Both of these wonderful people are no longer with us, yet we will never forget them.
She was not JUST another ¨disco¨ queen, diva or whatever label people like to put. She was in total control of her game. She wrote, produced, performed and delivered a ¨disco¨song like NO other artist could. She used to tell us a story within each song, she would act it, and made us feel it. The Ultimate Artist! You'll be in our hearts, our souls and our feet FOREVER, DONNA!
No vocal gimmicks or face pulling, she just opened her mouth and let her voice do the rest. Sad reflection of the times today that we look at this and are in awe that she is actually singing live.
One of the reasons this sounds so good is Donna's sisters, Dara and Mary, singing backup. Check out their sweet harmony with Donna when she holds the final note, my God is that beautiful.
Donna Summer went and perform in Manila, Philippines in early 70's. She was unbelievable. I think this was when she was already famous in Europe but not yet in the US. She was so humble and genuine. She was a true icon. An original.
No one could sing better live than Donna Summer. She gave it her all & never missed a note. I can't imagine the loss to her family & friends. I saw her in concert in Atlantic City along with an art show . Donna was so lovely in person, tall & quite beautiful.
'LIVE'. Donna's career was about to enter the stratosphere! Her departure from the musical landscape all too soon was very sad. To an amazing singer / performer : Donna Summer [Dec 31, 1948 - May 17, 2012].
Perfection at its best! At least to me, haha. An angel gone so soon. Although Donna finished her race, we absolutely LOVE you and wish you were still here with us. No one will EVER be able to take your place that you rightfully earned! Rest in peace, Queen Donna.
Donna = dancing, carefree, good times, liberation, beauty, greatness, uniqueness, joy and girl power! Thats a great legacy to leave and give to the masses. Thank you Donna.
I Remember on the Early 80s Tato & Papo when Ever They Travel To NY and Come Back to PR they always Bring Music Back and I Liked her and Listen Always We Love u To Donna Summer.
Unforgettable tune of Era disco, deep meaning of lyrics and love history, it s Like magic trance Wheel you listen this wonderfull song.donna summer was mi ídol and the always be for ever. San José ca USA
Love it! Haven't heard this since I was a teenager. Thanks so much for posting. I loved her opening, spoken recitative. Donna TOTALLY set the stage for Madonna and Whitney. M for killer club music which wasn't averse to story songs. Whit as mega singer who combines Gospel and Opera. And, to this day, I'm not sure either could seriously hold the stage with Ms. Summer.
It peaked at #36 in the US, although it went Top 10 in the UK. It did have the distinction of being the only her 3rd Top 40 single in the US though, and the 1st to use her full voice instead of the falsetto she used on her early albums. This was the first song of her's that caught my ear, and it's still a favorite.
Donna was the Summer of the 70s. After those orgasmic groans on her first two hits, who - back in the day - expected her to have pipes that would equal the greats?.
She said of that situation, being perceived as a "novelty" act, turned out to be a blessing; there were no expectations. But, wham! She sure showed 'em!
These were the days....thanks for uploading this song/video. This was always my favorite Summer song and this is the best live performance of it I've seen.
That's the right description of my flightplan with my ginger angel. I love you my peppermint patty, wherever you are in the universe. This song is in your memorial.
I dont know how to thank all you guys enough for posting these oldies but goodies of Donna ...this is so charitable of you, some things are better than money . Thank you again
Thanks for posting this....this was always my favorite Donna Summer song. RUclips is something else. How else would could you see such an old clip? lol
Reminds me how as a child I was spolt for choice: Donna, Deniece, Minnie, Gladys, Phyllis, Millie to name a few did what they did which today would be a rarity- they could sing!...and some!!!
@dsfddsgh I'm so happy to see others agree with this, cuz these days you start to think that this is the way in the future for soulsingers to sing. But have a good look (listen) to the 'old' (in my ears/eyes,they are timeless),classic soul singers..Gladys,Aretha,yes Donna is up there too,and many others, they didn't need to over-do their performances with notebending and over-the-top hand moves, cuz they all knew they had one thing going for them..a true SOUL voice.. cheers dsfddsgh and discovery781
tHANKS FOR POSTING THIS GEM...nOT FOR THE FAint of heart...and there is plenty more gems out there because every new album and new single she did the talk show circuit.
When you're a true singer, it looks effortless. We will always remember Donna Summer.

She made it look so easy and one was one of the few who sounded just as good live.
Damn she could sustain a belted note... over and over and over... one of the greatest voice, RIP, Queen Donna
My all-time favorite Donna Summer song. I just saw her at the Hollywood Bowl. I wish she would have sang this! Thanks for posting!!
ONCE UPON A TIME is such a epic recording. Such a beautiful and haunting story in music.
