Love watching these videos, they're part of the motivation I got for getting back into my Citroen 2cv. In the last month I've put a new gearbox in it, new brakes, new track rods, new rear tyres, a bunch of new paint and finishing materials inside, a new dash, new shocks, refurbed driveshafts, welded bodywork and I cleaned up the engine. Really neglected doing all that these past two years, but my god it's made a difference. Thanks for sharing your stuff man.
That's a hell of a lot of new stuff Alfred, fair play mate. The 2CV is a fun little machine and so much character, I remember we went for a spin in one as a kid and it was a real treat. Cheers for the kind words and happy motoring!

Great to hear an Irish man working on cars. And I LOVE the stop-motion bits showing work done by invisible hands. This is a REALLY UNIQUE USP for this channel. It's probably very time consuming to do, but this helps this channel stand out. Well done. I'm a new subscriber !
I stumbled onto the idea of backbone chassis many years ago...always thought they were just amazing desings! Never had a car with 1 but still think the world of the chassis style
I got to watch this again and you have to admit the Esprit is a thing of beauty. Simplistic in the design. Looks amazingly like a toy from far away. (love the shot btw 14:06). You can see why this gets anyone's gears going to work on it! Can't wait for the fun stuff to refresh it and skirt around town and down the highway!
It's a car that was overlooked wrongly, and despite the critics all agreeing it was a dynamic package over most everything else. I think the main problem is we're fickle and want to hear a V8 in a car like this. Dreaming of taking it on some roadtrips are what keeps me working!
Nice one George. I’ve just done that job in reverse on a Europa today! You can definitely see the evolution of the chassis. They might look flimsy but they are very strong.
One of your videos was on my recommended list, so I gave it a watch and you mentioned a Mirafiori in episode 4, so I watched episode 4 and then all the others! Ever since owning a couple of Fiat 131 sports in my youth, I've been a fan of Italian metal. I've had X1/9s, a Barchetta, a couple of Alfa 156s and a 916 Spider amongst others. I'm looking for another classic and considering an old Land Rover which is why I came across your channel. I love the stop motion work and the detail that you show. Keep the Italians coming! John
Great to know how you found it, and that it's finally popping up in recommended lists. You've had a really cool backlist of cars, and I can say hand on heart you won't regret an old LR, especially if you are hands on yourself. Thanks a mill mate and stay tuned, my two door RR will come into the picture soon and that's a bit of a special one!
extremely articulate and you make it almost philosophical that's what i always think about cars and especially the beauty of an internal combustion engine,it,s still fire from the gods! thanks prometheus.and thankyou.
Amazing work! I thought I had a patience, but you are a Zen master being able to do this kind of video production. I work in film, I work on my cars (when I can) & have an Turbo Esprit. Really appreciate your work! Cheers!
Love the video, George but, to be pedantic, the Esprit does not use a Chapman strut suspension. With the Chapman strut their is no top link as such. The spring-shock assembly does not pivot at the hub and acts as the top link. It was used on the original Elan and +2. Looking forward to see how the car cleans up. I had a S2 a while ago and I loved that car.
Not pedantic at all Trev, it's interesting and challenging. I headed off to ask some people about it and it seems we were both wrong. Lotus used a number of variations on the theme across both road and race cars and the single common defining factor is a fixed length driveshaft together with a lack of bottom link. The name was just ease of use for Lotus. So what happened with the S2 in the end? Don't have an original steering wheel or head unit on a shelf in the garage do you? ;)
Sorry but sold it when I was living in America and didn’t have any bits left. Bought it in California. Got it back on the road. Shipped it to North Carolina when I moved and then sold it to a guy in California so it went back where it belonged.
Hi, not seen your videos before but glad I have now. Very interesting to listen to and really well produced video. Like other watchers I thought the stop-motion filming was brillant. Will watch some more episodes soon. Thanks!
Good stuff George! I looooved the tilt-shift effect you went for when you compared the car to an RC toy ;) In the future, you could ask the guys at Delta if they have an induction heater you could borrow. They are amazing pieces of kit and heat ONLY the metal part you're working with. Might have made that seat belt bolt a bit easier ;) Keep on keeping on man, can't wait for more!
Also, regarding valve cover design... take a second a google "5MGE valve cover". Its the same rough design as the ones on the Esprit but come off of a, you guessed it, Toyota Supra ;)
George simply awesome episode !!keep up the great work , the early Esprit my dream car don’t care what they said about not been reliable but those lines penned by Giugiaro they are stunning
@Aaron See I've shown my lack of Toyota knowledge up, should have included the M series engines in that piece! Think I over cooked the tilt shift shot a little? The lads don't have an induction heater, it was the first thing I asked, they just don't have cause for one being a commercial modern bodyshop.
@Jeton924s The lines are beautiful and too often overlooked. The Esprit will have it's day and it'll be a better car for being put together slowly by an enthusiast, Lotus are incredible engineers.
