I will still take my chances against the Tigers offense over the Altuve, Bregman, Tucker, Diaz, Alvarez, Pena core you have to get through with Houston. I'd rather take a shot at the clock striking midnight on Cinderella vs. having to take down the team that has gotten to the ALCS 7-years in a row.
Thinking the same thing. Easier to shut down Detroit for 9 innings than Houston.
but they do much much better vs lefties which Detroit doesnt have so it balances
great scouting report! Thanks!
There's no avoiding great teams in the playoffs, so bring on whoever, but if you make me choose, I'll take the Tigers matchup.
I feel that way too but its rough matchup both ways
Objectively I would much prefer to play the Astros if forced to choose, but I really don’t care that much who we play- nobody really scares me. The best part about having one of the most flexible rosters in baseball is that you don’t have to fear any one team or pitcher. I think this Guardians team can outsmart any opponent and I have faith that the lineup will do enough to give the pitching staff a great chance to win each game
It all comes down to scoring 3 or 4 runs a game.
There were advantages to facing either squad honestly but I prefer the Tigers
Another fantastic show gentlemen. I am very surprised to hear about Cleveland doing well against the change, as when I saw them face change ups I remember them struggling. I definitely remember Bo have a lot of trouble with velocity as well. Nice to hear data verses eye test.
I thought it was worth bringing it up because it goes against the idea
@@LockedonGuardians once again, you have the pulse on things! Great analysis
I saw the 14 of 16 best of three stats as well, but that must have included best of three's that took place decades prior maybe to decide a league pennant before divisional play. There's only been 8 WC series before this season.
its a huge advantage either way
biggest takeaway for me is to make sure to not face skubal. the astros got to him a few times but he worked out of danger each instance. also, if you are going to attack detroit.. it better be against their bullpen. guards are going to have to try and find a way to manufacture runs and make pitchers pay for walks. stealing may not be an option however given the tigers skilled catcher.
I thought it was all about teams and experience even though the least experienced team won both series
Yiiikes!! I feel bad for orioles fans!! 😮

@@LockedonGuardians Hope springs eternal! There is always hope! Lol
“Tigers are harder to scout because of that Johnny-whole-staff approach….” ROTFLMAO
there is a degree of it
I want the Tigers, and it's not even close. Houston owns us
I’d rather play a scuffling team with a decimated pitching staff than the hottest team in baseball, with the best pitcher in the playoffs, who are playing with the most confidence in the world. Idc about past outcomes, I care about right now, and who gives us the best chance to move on, and that’s Houston
Why doesn't baseball re-seed after this wildcard round?
@@andrewberchtold8276 they really should. Puts even more emphasis on the regular season.
@@davidwindell Houston lineup is tougher to navigate than Detroit.
@@andrewberchtold8276 If Baltimore rallies and faces NYY with DET playing the Guardians, the NY(and national)media will be whining about that for days. On the other hand, the one seed is guaranteed a matchup against a WC team, whereas the two seed has an at least 50/50 chance of facing a division winner.
I would prefer all division winners sit and the 3 wildcard teams have a short tournament after the season ends. 5 vs 6 on Tuesday, then travel to 4 on Wednesday. The 4 wins, it's over or the 5 or 6 wins, they play another game Thursday to advance.
Then the 4 seed(usually a cut above 5 and 6) gets a clear advantage to the ALDS, and the 3rd division winner isn't stuck with a best of three to advance.
There is no scenario in which Clevland matches up well vs the Astros. You need the Tigers to win period.
They matched up solidly vs Houston due to being a team that hits lefties better and Hou having more lefty starts
Please pronounce Tarik Skubal's name correctly! It's pronounced TERR-eck not ta-RIK!!
thanks for watching
