    The Valse is part of the triumphant recital Cyprien Katsaris gave on 17 October 1999 in the fabulous surroundings of the main auditorium of Carnegie Hall in New York on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Chopin’s death. Katsaris presents us with anything but a routine reading of Chopin’s work. His approach is highly personal: unexpected counter-tones in his turn of phrase, tempi that are often unusual, breaks and contrasts informing dynamics, articulation and pedal work. The New York audience was manifestly electrified, giving a standing ovation, repeatedly calling the pianist back for several minutes and finally wresting from him three encores.

    WOW! I just learned this piece and I never noticed the inner melody in the più mosso section. That was some truly amazing voicing. Now that I’ve heard it I can’t unhear it anymore, working on it right away. Thank you so much sir you just made my day! 🙏

    Is it fair to say that this waltz influenced the waltz movement from Dvorak's string serenade?

    personally i find it awkard for this piece to be changed so dramatically..too much innovation,it loses its identity

    • @rmalolepszy
      @rmalolepszy 6 лет назад +13

      Stavros Stamatopoulos he hasn’t changed anything... he accents some notes already been in the text to show a „hidden” melody but does not add anything by himself.

      I personally play this piece in two different ways: a "standard" way and a "personal" way which is something based on the same principle as Katsaris'. My choice between the two depends on the circumstance: I've recently recorded this piece for an advertising campaign, so as plainly as a student would read it, and my performance was selected for the job. If I had to show my inner feelings about this piece, maybe during a solo recital, no doubts I'd do the other way ;)

      those are the "inner voices"

      It doesn't change any notes, it just accentuates, adding an inner voice

      Oh haven't you heard?? Mr. Katsaris personally OWNS the property of Chopin and can mutilate it to his heart's desire.

    Он заигрался на исполнительском поприще. Так медленный и нежный вальс Шопена звучать не должен! Темп завышен. !!!

      @@user-re2yi2pm1u Исполнение задроченое. А Шопен должен звучать естественно и не принуждённо.
