I rent an apartment, drive a 15 year old car, rent books/dvds from the library, travel via google earth, wear the same clothes from a decade ago. I couldn't care less what other people have.
That’s right. I live in a little studio, drive a 2012 Honda (and will probably have it for years to come), rent library books, still wear clothes from decades ago, etc. ❤
Thanks! I love the french doors, too! Unfortunately I still don't have a couch. I decided to be a baller and get a new couch, but once it got here it didn't fit through the door, so they had to take it back. Still have tons to do to set everything up, but hopefully I can get a couch in here soon. I've been sitting on patio furniture for the past week, haha.
Adding on the "you have a bin outside" is making a "delivery snack station", which is putting out drinks, candy, snacks, etc as a thank you to the delivery drivers that come to your house so often And adding on to "you watch too much HGTV" is house-hopping and seeing a house as an "investment property" and selling it every few years to get a bigger and "better" one, instead of seeing it as your home that you'll live in for many, many years
Wow as an European I am wondering what the future of America will look like with all the inflation... All the debt and consumerism that you mentioned will become totally unsustainable in the near future... Scary world we live in...
I brush my dog's teeth every now and then, it's so adorable. I really just do it because it's so cute because she doesn't like it, but she allows me to do it.
I disagree that the couples on the HGTV programs are average, because if they have a budget of $250,000 to renovate a barn on their property or over a million for a vacation home, they are not “average”. HGTV portrays them as average, and g that is the problem. Me encantan tus videos.
You are so right i dont buy things to keep up with the jones but my problem is that i by things that i dont need period therefore i dont remember what i ordered
I’m always ordering things online and forget what I ordered, BUT… we’ve been building our own home for the last 10 years. 99% of what we buy on Amazon is for our house. Not clothes or jewelry etc. Also, we live 30 min from town. Easier to get what we need thru online stores than to drive all over our state looking for them. 😅
I used to try to keep up with the Joneses but they moved. Ok, I know that was lame but I stopped trying to keep up with keeping up with buying stuff to fill my place. I let stuff break and don't replace, repurpose items that I've bought, trash or donate it, moving towards minimalism.
My feed is full of the aspirational stuff, once you see people enjoy it, you never actually want it because it isn't worth it. Live through others and let them spend their money while you preserve yours!
Or ... I'm enjoying the luxury/materialism content (for example) because I will never ever waste money on those types of things, but it is fun to see what is out there and enjoying it vicariously through others.
Thank you so very much …. This video made me realise that I keep upgrading my computer just for the heck of it …. I justify as adding speed and productivity knowing very well that old computer was just as good for the job. This video was an eye opener for me. I am the guy with all smart home gadgets. Thank you very much indeed. ❤
I have a ring doorbell😲😂. I needed a new doorbell and its basically just a doorbell for the outside as I didnt buy the subscription service but can be a safety deterant if people think they are on camera. I however cant stand any of the inside smart stuff, if you want the lights on just get up off your butt and turn em on 😂.
Oh damn, point two! Guilty as charged. Same for point 5 but the dresses I bought via Shein are still in good condition and I still wear them. But yes, I have gotten rid of items I bought there a few months after I got them. I still have some work to do on myself.
As I watch this video, I just remember I have an Amazon box sitting in the living, not sure what it is. This happens often, but it’s because I’m forgetful not that I don’t need the items 😆
It's amazing how you don't mind showing other frugal youtubers in your videos. It only proves (in my personal opinion) how invested you're in frugal content and aside from it being your source of income, you're also doing it for the greater good. Thank you. I hope I am correct
We're not competing against each other. The better everyone does the stronger the niche grows and we all benefit! I've spoken to many of them...mainly the one's in my age group!
No keep up with the Jones Breaux!! To you young people who want buy a house, there is also unfairly appraised property taxes, upkeep on the house that insurance will not pay squat for, home owners insurance that never will stop going up, then you want to move and then have to find a buyer, and then deal with very crooked tax Assessor/Collectors . BE YOURSELF!!! If you really want buy a house, cool, but it also serves as a big anchor when you want to leave or worse die!!
I find it funny that people don’t order in Temu because they say it’s cheap Chinese crap. Lol. Most stores have 99% of their items being made in China. 😂
I've never cared about other people and trying to keep up with appearances. I've generally always dressed like a slob, drive an old car, never buy luxury brands. And I only collect things for my hobby that no one will ever see, and its only for myself.
I've been listening to your videos while I commute to work n also as I make supper for about 2 weeks now. You are doing an excellent job helping us become n staying financially literate/frugal. I have also been sharing with my like-minded friends/family. All the best !
Hello 👋👋👋 Excellent 👌 video as Always 😊. This is an issue becoming all Over World 🌎. Even in Pakistan it's an issue😮. We have a Show off Culture+ Materialistic Society. At least Among Rich Class/ Upper middle Class/ Strong Middle Class Society 😊
My neighbors try to keep up with us. We have a fixer upper cape we paid off a few years ago. My car is 11, my husband's truck is 22, and we have another truck we are taking to one of our other properties. We're saving for a 4th property we plan to buy next year. My husband is building a shed and does work on the house. They don't know we spend next to nothing so we have plenty to save. I'm returning a pair of dress shoes to Jeff because they're too small. I have to order new ones because his dress shoes are black sneakers. He built our mailbox which looks like a miniature version of our house. Our neighbor ran out and bought a similar box. We don't watch TV. She bought a matching SUV to mine. I haven't upgraded. She does annually. We bought other properties. We're doing just fine. Who wants to live like the neighbors? Why?!
Great video - Your British accents are improving - your next British challenge is to learn to say Macrame the British way and drop it in a future video! I’ll be listening!
I love HGTV but have no illusions about what I can afford. Being debt free gives you a different perspective: none of that is worth getting back into debt.
Interesting take on letting the algorithms tell you what you've been (unconsciously?) up to. We've been known to experience that "What's in today's Amazon box?" syndrome!
I do put things on my wishlist one day and delete them the next day instead of ordering. Does that count as well? 😅 Talking about Temu and Shein, I'm extremely cautios not accidently buy from a chinese store on Marketplace pages and check every seller from every item before ordering. That might be a bit excessive I know.
The 'what's this?' feeling I had when receiving a Pokemon card I had ordered online for my nephew's birthday. I was opening it having no idea what it was and trying to guess if it were some important medical or government notification.
Agreed El Agustin.. but Lamborghini only 200 horsepower ? I don’t shop online, no Temu, NoShein, have a 6 year old and 2 year old cars (Japanese ones) have a house, 3 year old phone.. What’s a “ macrame “ set ? 😂❤
@ They’re funny esp when they are wrong. 🤣🤣🤣 FYI, A Lamborghini Huracan is about 600+ horsepower in stock version - if tuned will be higher. 😀❤️ You’re lucky Ferrucio is no more.. 🤣🤣
7 Life Goals that are a Waste of Time 1. Having the Best Stuff 2. Having the Most Money / Successful 3. Being Famous 4. Being Liked by Others 5. Seeing the Entire World 6. Getting Things Done Every Day 7. Being Right
Hey. I don’t know you personally but it really depends on your priorities. 1. Is it to do something you love and see yourself enjoying for a very long time? 2. Is it to keep food on the table so you’re looking for the highest pay you can get? 3. Getting a payroll, and focus on your other hobbies privately? What’s the trade offs between these options that you will gain and potentially lose that you’re okay with. You’re still young, so if you don’t really know what you want, start exploring and asking yourself these questions 😊 Then start investing early when you start having an income. Just my 2 cents ya. End day, life will lead you to where you need to be. As long as you do the right thing and live life on your own beliefs and right morals
You should try some public service project as a gap year to experience the real world and gain some skills! If you're American, there's Americorps. There are tons of different free community projects where you can volunteer your time in exchange for room and board! Get some experience away from home and challenge yourself. My email is in my home page description and I can always give you some more examples! But when you're 18, you normally have a lot of flexibility and I think the best thing you can do is some public service project!!!!!
Look up the most marketable careers ! And do 2 years community college first and transferring those credits to an in state college. If you live , in say, Iowa… it’s so much more expensive to go to college in a different state. Stay in your own home state 👍🏻
Guys I am from India and I am already on the path to pursue software engineering, but I am not sure whether I would regret this choice in the future after watching other individuals in youtube quiting their tech jobs from failing to start their own startups while already working in that job and having unstable work life balance .And along with that I have this feeling that if I pursue software engineering and just focus learning about it for the next 5-6 years I could be a successful entrepreneur, but at present I don't have any basic knowledge about software engineering.Should I do this or am l wrong?

One thing I've never done is shop on Temu or Tein. All that cheap crap breaks easily and will all end up in the landfill.
I love Temu lol and they are all not cheap and break down!
I never ordered from Amazon (we do not have it here), Shein and Temu… the latters are cheap rubbish
The clothes are pretty good though.
commit to frugality
learn the word "need" ( for when you go shopping)
live below your means
I never care about other people think about me, be myself is a key. Thanks for your video, good point!
Sholping can be an addiction, dopamine hits just like drugs, its sad.

My only online order is for my dogs toothpaste and wormer…both of us always know what is in that package…🐶💜.
I brush my dog's teeth every now and then, it's so adorable. I really just do it because it's so cute because she doesn't like it, but she allows me to do it.
@ Keep it up Agustin…👍🏽….a vet scale and polish starts at $600 in Oz….😱

I think the average person has $20,000 to renovate their old house. Maybe. And it would be in the form of a bank loan. Not cash on hand

Sadly I and some other viewers are probably going to be guilty of at least some of these things 😢
We're all guilty!
I'm working on not getting rid of items I recently bought.
Not entirely true - I 've bought things I needed from Temu that were cheaper (with a lesser required minimum) than on Amazon.
As I watch this video, I just remember I have an Amazon box sitting in the living, not sure what it is. This happens often, but it’s because I’m forgetful not that I don’t need the items 😆
‘6 bathrooms bro!’ - 😂 Also your mum and I might be macrame kindred spirits! 😊 Great video and reality check for me
Never ever in my life have I viewed a macrame as a status symbol or keeping up with the Jones’s object.
I watch HGTV for entertainment Only but my timeline is of minimalism/frugality, investment and budget travel.
Erm. Where was atozen life on your minimalism page, 😂. Great work señor, keep it up!
I just quickly created it in incognito, haha!

Based on your post, its lenght and details + all the justification, I would say you are the one keeping up to them. Not the other way around.

Interesting take on letting the algorithms tell you what you've been (unconsciously?) up to. We've been known to experience that "What's in today's Amazon box?" syndrome!
Yeah, algorithms are very interesting. But they can also be toxic and lead you to dark things for their own gain.

No smart house, no smart things... except me!! Ha ha!
Make me sad that all that cheap crap from Temu and Shein is building mountains of trash all over our country.

Keeping up with Joneses. You can buy a new 1,000 dollar graphics card every 3 years for gaming. Or you could play retro games.
So unfortunately you did just remind me to go to the mail room to pick up my Amazon packages 🥲
lol, it's okay. I think everyone does that every now and then. I thought it was more funny than anything.
