- As far as Dream Build gravel bikes go, this is definitely the best one featured on the channel so far.. a totally custom painted Open WI.DE frame featuring the finest components with a carefully considered colour scheme. This bike was the brainchild of my friend Tom and this is what he has to say about it, he's loving riding it so far!
From Tom:
"The original design for the paint was very different. I wanted to honour OPEN and use the four colours of their company logo. After speaking to Rob at Colourburn studios he said that brown is an awkward colour to work with and one that looks flat once it’s applied. Browsing his Instagram, I noticed he had been doing a marble effect on other frames which looked incredible. I decided to go with black and grey which would work well with the gold accents.
During the filming process things to a turn for the better. Due to the way the inks he uses to create the effect work, it came out as a really dark green. This is due to the fact that black doesn’t exist as a pigment. Rob contacted me and asked if I want to keep the green or he could adjust back to dark black and grey. We both thought it looked incredible, so we decided to keep it. I’m very happy we did."

After seeing the Hambini video on the quality of Open carbon frames I'd steer well clear.
5:50 - looks like this binding BB shell is a common fault with OPEN frames.

Attention to detail fail..BB test at 5min 50s epic fail. Poor bike owner will have some major problems with BB. Bad attitude of builder to let it go
I was a bike mechanic 25 years ago, at a high-end shop. Seeing these videos, I miss that time. It was before disc brakes, carbon frames that lasted, and thru-axles. You take me back in the best way possible. Great stuff. Thanks.
So i've been watching bike videos on RUclips for a few days now as I grief my bicycle that got stolen last Thursday. I am not much of a cyclist - rather a lazy urban commuter, but the commitment and effort put into these is exquisite. Thank you for adding beauty to my coping

All these build is like a therapy for me. Everyone should do it. Me myself often assemble and disamble my own bike. Really satisfying to do it yourself
that's the nicest bike I've ever seen built. The titanium egg beaters by crank brothers to top it off.

You don’t know much about bike builds then. Crank test 5mins 50s - it stops. Major problem. Avoid Open and the builder
@@honestmcgyver so you don‘t know anything about it...you stupid...my campy is not spinning like crazy as you can see it there...nothing wrong as long as it spins smoothly without frictions
@@kayo5823 then you are blind because that BB does not spin smoothly without friction. Something is clearly very, very wrong there.

Chris..go look at 5mins50 that crank test should spin freely not stop dead. Major problem. Builder should not sign off nor should Open frame co. Port owner spent a fortune & will have major BB problems

That is a piece of art. I'd just mount it on my wall and stare at it. Doubt I could ever bring myself to get it dirty, or, God forbid, get a scratch.

5:50 Dude, this frame is seriously crap! Cranks supposed to turn much, much longer with the power you put in there.
That has nothing to do with frame, it’s the bearinga that are bad
@@nikolaj1316: No, it is the frame. If the hole for the BB is not within spec, meaning not perfectly round, too small or misaligned, even the best bearings will not turn smoothly. This is a common issue on carbon frames of all but a few brands.
It's more likely that the spacer for the crankset you see at 5:39 is just a bit too wide
@@TuTStation can also be. Actually, another problem is that there is simply no weight on the end of the cranks. Put pedals on and it will spin a lot longer.
If what Hambini said about it is true, I just hope they checked the frame for voids. :o

I work at a bikeshop and i remember one day we had this couple, both with this bike, custom painted, SRAM Force groupset and so on. And the girl could ride it because her front brake was jammed.

Any areo/weight gains are lost with the friction on that crank. How much is this bike again? That's a shocker imo.
What is deeply worrying is that the 'mechanic' didn't seem bothered. A real mechanic would have stopped at that point and got it fixed before putting more parts and an obviously faulty frame.
