Got one of these so I could get back to cycling a bit easier after a knee replacement and it has pretty much the same geometry as my Trek Slash. What a great bike, climbs well, descends better. I changed out the rear shock for a Ultimate Deluxe coil as I prefer the feel of a coil. This bike is my first venture into ebiking and I'm loving it 😁
I've had mine for a couple of months now, absolutely love it. Came from a Giant Trance X, the Whyte is so much nimbler and hugely confidence inspiring. Good review, cheers.
That’s the only e bike I’ve ever tried and absolutely in love with the killer setup with the mx wheel size and big travel. Tackles the dh track and some of the hardest trails in Rotorua smoother than most trail bikes out there!
Thanks for the review Lance, after watching numerous RUclips videos and reading reviews I settled on a E160mx , I was going to test ride that E180 bike at Rotorua, and maybe purchase it ,mainly because I couldn’t find a E160 size large, in the North Island, they did have the E160RSX at electric bike but the $12k price out of my reach, short story ha ha, I did find a 160 in Auckland a couple of days before I was going to Rotorua, so I purchased it, probly a better fit for me as I want a good allrounder, rather than super long travel, 6 weeks later I’m very happy with it, and the $9.5k price I think was good value, but they are now selling them for 9 k at T7 at the moment which really is a bargain
There are some good buys about at the moment. I may try the 160 at some point. I do think the shorter travel bike with a slightly steeper head angle can be more maneuverable and a bit more playful at times. Either way lots of fun.
@@bestdayevermtb2 The E160 RSX is well specd with fox suspension and ASX electric shifting, but I imagine the spares prices for cassettes and derailures etc are pretty expensive, I will stick with the Shimano 11 speed linkglide
Fantastic video Lance and that bike looks amazing I would not mind trying one out myself and see how it goes and including how my Back goes is well. Wouldn’t mind getting back into mountain biking again sometime or later. Have not been able to ride for at least 7 months.
@@danieljames4584 You may want to look closer as I discussed getting a small bike for my wife and was told they came in small. May have been the 160 but might be worth checking.
had my Whyte e180s for 6 months now, great bike an absolute weapon of a tank. The only issue has been the chain ring coming loose but thats a Bosch issue, most change the cranks to hope 155mm as to avoid pedal strikes. Lifetime warranty on the frame bearings as well. Just waiting for new rims as I heavy cased a jump the other week and destroyed the back wheel, the frame is all good👍
Nice vid man... I have just taken delivery of a e160 s mx, had ordered the full 29er but got sent the mullet version I was pretted peed off but then rode it and I thonk i actually quite like the mullet. I may just keep it....
I sold my Gen 3 levo and got the E-180 about 7weeks ago. I just like a heavy e bike with more travel. I am over biked for what I ride but I just love the big travel bikes.
@@ehk8029 I use to have a Kenevo but that was 4years ago, and they have changed a bit since then. I dont think there's much difference between the E-180 and my older kenevo .
The turquoise blue E160 looks pretty but I mite be biased, did 2 rides over a couple of days recently , mixed forestry terrain and some tar seal to get there, rode 75 kms and battery light started flashing on the last bar as I rode home into my garage, so the range is pretty good 😊
For $10,000 it does seem loke good value. When i replace my current 4,5 year old ebike it will be a Bosch. Electric Bike Rotorua have hire ones that have done over 7000km. Try that on a BROSE 😀
In did ride a 160 in a video a little while back. Best tourist attraction in Rotorua, doing the forest loop. Was a fun bike. Maybe a little more playful than the big 180.
Hi Greg, I have no knowledge of the bike but did do a google. Looks quite cool. Yamaha does a good electric motor and is a reputable brand. Would be interested to know if the double top tube is wider as I have been known to knock knees on the top tube. Would certainly review one if the opportunity arose.
@bestdayevermtb2 well grabbed one on sale for $8400, steal! Its a beast and corners better than Rail oddly. Went upto Rotors today and did same 40km that I'd done on Rail and used same % of batt even tho Rail has a 625 vs 750 🤔 Only diff I can see is Rail has a 34t front ring vs 36t on the Whyte, prob explains the lack of torque feel on the Whyte vs the Rail, may explain extra batt use too?
@bestdayevermtb2 its fun alright, your vids have encourage this 51y/o to try jumping haha, managed all but 2 on Katore. Watching you old boys doin it gave me the balls to try 😆
Another great review/video Lance. Just out of curiosity though, do you & Dads Army ever ride Little Red Riding Huc? As you all seem to love jumping & such, I just can't recall ever seeing you's riding it on video... Would make great viewing!
Have done it a few times. Would probably have to do it on my own as I am not the one who decides where we ride as a group. Always get a bit nervous on big jumps on my own which doesn't help.🙄

I saw that bike and the e160 at electric bike Rotorua when my partner and I were doing the loop. Looks like a very well rounded bike
Great bikes for Rotorua.

Awesome review Lance, thanks for that. How did you find the weight and balance over those jumps? Was the suspension good and feel plush?
I thought the suspension was great and felt good jumping.
Great vid lance! Absolutely fantastic bike , how did you find that 750wh batt? Hard to go back after having that extra range?
It was really good in Rotorua.
Hi Lance, have you seen or know of anyone riding the Yamheee Moro 07, what's your thoughts??, Many thanks Greg... Nice jumps

Hmm....do I upgrade my DVO spec'd Rail 9 for an e180 s?
How would say the e180 compares with the Rail? Mine is a 2020 set up as a mullet with coil.
Both bikes are good. The Whyte feels slacker and more like a down hill bike than the Rail. The Rail may be a bit more nimble and easier to maneuver.
