One of the best moments in any show, ever. The loud, echoing breathing on the line before the final snap, the clenched fists, the unwavering focus in his eyes--he makes it through his hurdle, and emerges from his climb out of a dead-end criminal lifestyle. Definitely a hugely motivational video.
You can tell Buddy genuinely loved Santiago like a Son. Yeah, he had Buddy Jr in the last season, but this was different. Buddy had lost his family, Santiago needed one. They gave each other something they both needed. Buddy needed someone to take care of and to love and show to how play the game he loved so much. Santiago needed to be taken care of and shown how to do things that only a Father can teach. He gave Santiago not just a home and stability, but he helped him become a Panther, and that got him friends that were on the right side of the law and society. And also, love.
I love how the writers didn't have Santiago say anything except thank you to Buddy. It was the smart choice for Santiago character growth, knowing he is grateful but doesn't know how to communicate it well enough to be sure whsy to say. To bad his story never developed
The dang writer's strike took away from this guys story smh!!!! I really wanted to see what happened with it because it's like he never existed in Season 3
The story lines in season two were largely garbage and outside the scope of the show, like the Landry murder cover up, Saracen and the Home Aid, etc. i see why they pretended season 2 never happened. but this story line fit right in with the heart of the show and I wish it continued.
This was basically the resolution of his story. Its a shame , he was an interesting character. But i'm pretty sure he was the spiritual precursor to Vince - if you think about it, they key elements of Santiago were recycled and used for Vince and expanded upon.
@@alexescutia4805 From what I’ve read, because of the writers strike, Santiago’s actor decided to take on new roles so he wasn’t able to come back to the show because of his schedule.
Ye I feel Santiago’s character was far from over and could’ve been like the Andrew Bernard of FNL not one of the original characters but gets as much love as the originals
the storyline for him never got resolved i believe it was because of the writers strike that happened around this time sucks cuz he was a good character.

buddy garretity shows his humanity in this scene he was always seen as someone that didnt care about anyone but the panthers. But he really was a father figure to Santiago. Treated him like a son and never judged him for being a bad kid.
I love FNL but I seriously wish we got more stories about players who played defense it's very offense oriented but this moment as a former linebacker myself it jerks tears from me. Unlike scoring defense has to NEVER quit. And I never will forget my sophomore year coach taking a chance on me at OLB Midway through a rivalry game. We barely won but I discovered that I had confidence and some sports IQ but boy I was nervous as hell but man I really love defense and that for me coach helped turn my shy introverted self into a scholar Athlete and I can't ever thank him enough
Outside of the whole season 2 debacle that was really my only issue w the show. The movie kept it balanced cause you had 3 offensive players and 2 defensive (preacher and chavez). Idk why the show didn’t do something similar. My fav scene of the movie (football wise) was the final game and preacher going lights out and chewing everyone out in the locker room at halftime. Show dropped the ball on that aspect. Pun intended

Santiago needed five years to finish high school. Never tried to play football again. Joined the Marines, pulled six squad members out of an ambush 90 days in. After his second re-up, he served five years on Houston Police force then became a US Marshall. Every single time he got knocked down he got up.
NEVER EVER underestimate what FAST, MOBILE leader at linebacker can do! to change the game! (and I was one and played on one of the better Northern Virginia Linebacker squads!)
I wish can someone upload the scene where they both argue in the car. Then Buddy tells him to shut up stop being nervous otherwise he'll doubt himself and end up where he was in his past life. Thats discipline but motivation: tough love.
I considered myself the same as Santiago. Raw and tough--no idea how to really play football. Junior year last game of the year, league title on the line, everyone on D was getting injured. 12000 people in the stands. Coach calls my name. First play concussion. Second play wind knocked out of me. Next three plays--all sacks. Crowd and everyone going crazy. First week of spring camp, I'm back riding pine and quit immediately and take up boxing and have over 100 amateur fights. Fast forward thirty years later, sitting here watching this.
Im from texas and was apart of football in the late 90s early 2000s, and the quickest way, the QUICKEST WAY, to never see the field is to sit on the bench.......the bench is for "hurt players and water boys"...thats what we were told
Anyone wondering what happened to Santiago...he ended up playing tight end at the university of Florida. He was drafted by the patriots and was eventually arrested for murder.
