@@vrsce0178 Even if you were right, there's no need to be condescending. Also, primitive smartphones actually failed a few times until Apple made their own. Same thing goes for tablets. I think if Apple makes this, then fails, then you can call it a failed idea. Apple says they don't have the technology to implement this idea into glasses they find to be stylish and marketable. I think it's too early to say whether or not augmented reality will be successful or not. Also, to everybody else, yes, I wouldn't want to be part of this either. Unfortunately, if this does become successful, it'll probably be like smartphones and the internet and you will probably NEED the fucking thing just to function in society. Ever tried to apply for jobs without at least internet and a cellphone? Now, my question is, if this technology does become successful, how are schools and certain jobs are going to ban this? Students are not allowed to have cellphones in class, but students sneak it in there anyways. Imagine teachers trying to stop students from using this in class.
Written over 400 years ago in the King James Bible: "And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." (Revelation 13:16-18)
I honestly believe this world is coming whether we like it or not. Take a close look at almost ANYTHING in your daily public life. Hockey arenas and jerseys are now plastered with ad junk, where both used to be blank not so long ago. Movies have 30 minutes of intrusive ads injected into them, not to mention the Coke bottle you see in so many scenes in the actual movie. I don't like it. What if you visit an old historic European city, and it's overlayed with digital crap? Just give me the beautiful buildings and let me formulate my own opinion. I'm not sure if the author of this is advocating this type of future, or merely presenting what he thinks we will encounter, but to me, it's horrible. Turn off the electronic garbage and turn your own senses back on. If you can. Tom.
Anthony Garcia That's not entirely true. If this technology is incorporated into traffic structure like this artist presents, how would you drive without accepting it
Anthony Garcia If it's incorporated into traffic structure, this AR would allow us to see traffic paths, signs, etc as the artist imagined. That's the scenario I'm discussing.
Actually it wouldn't take that even one generation. All they would do is incorporate this in soccer stadiums (in your culture) or the football stadiums and during halftime for superbowl, place personalized ads to everyone. Instead of everyone seeing generic ads for products. There would be ads for teens, parents and older adults all broadcast into their own phones during the half time. Obviously this would also revolutionize the porn industry.
Yeah, here in Canada, they are still not sure about internet advertising compared to TV advertising. Just be patient, eventually management gets new blood and they incorporate more advertising into our lives. I hate advertising in western world and hope this AR/VR technology never gets used because the executives are too old to realize the potential. I really hope the people never realize the potential of this technology in tech.
I was in Europe (compared to Canada is slightly more advanced) and used the Oculus rift headset to watch people ski downhill. To be honest, it sucked. I can't experience the wind in my face, the cold air, all I saw was a 3-D movie. I foresee this purely as a location based advertising platform bringing in more advertising to our lives. I see the billboard industry being disrupted. Obviously early adapters in SoCal (California) will bring this industry into other places eventually. It just takes a while to get 5G wireless in everyone's headsets in order to stream quickly. Ironicaly, you won't see this in movie industry because Hollywood is full of old dinosaurs. However, the porn industry is much more forward looking. I tried watching choose your own porn on with AR set and it was better than porn movies. This is just a passing fad. People are extremely slow at adopting new technologies as they get older.
when you understand memetics, you see, we're already there. these films aren't imagination but criticism of current social mechanisms, eg. "every visible surface covered with attention solicitation". its meant to be totally aggravating. its a reductio ad absurdum of the authoritarianism we already accept, and these themes have been part of "science fiction" for decades. the fact that so many people seem to think this is somehow, almost good, only proves this. review mkultra tavistock and such and you only have to look at history to know, society is restricted, inhibited and we don't show a 10th of our current potential yet everybody ignores the intentional asshole sitting on them. we have sold our attention away for twinkly shit.
This is what I've thought for a long time, even before I saw the hyper-reality videos. When I saw them, and actually saw that she people might LIKE this...that was genuinely horrifying to me.
I agree completely. A lot of people tend to accept something just for the fact that it looks cool, and dismiss the criticism as an "ultraconservatory" point of view. Or by saying that you have an old mentality and you don't understand that is good. More than science fiction, cyberpunk genre depicts this kind of reality as something to avoid, as a danger to be careful about, and yet it seems that it's taken by many as an example or something to aim at. Even today, we are overloaded with informations and signs, we are targeted by tailor-made ads for each one of us, more and more detached from real world and more absorbed by the digital one. This video just shows the extreme version of what we already started and partially have today.
