I was 8or9 when my father used to take me to hear this great artist who used to do his weekly concerts in Baroda where he was brought in by the Maharajah Sayajirao Gaikwad of Baroda for the joy of the locals. It was all free. Needless to say that I didn’t understand this highly classical music then nor do I do much now. But I am very happy to enjoy it now and I am very greatful for this upload. The classical music has been really democratized with the works of great master being made available to commoners like us. We must thank people like Raju Asokan for giving a big helping hand in this process. It is for the listeners to take this forward and bring back the glorious days of classical music. India has a lot to take to the rest of the world in this area. The masters' work is like lighthouse that shows the path for achieving this.
Absolutely Raju Asokan is a great person for bringing out the works of these larger than life Ustad Faiyaaz Khan saheb. BTW, I remember Ustad Vilayat Khan remarking that he has patterned his Jhinjoti after listening to Faiyaaz Khan saheb.
@@abdulwasy6607 Absolutely. There is an interview on youtube where he answers a questions by Shujat Khan where he plays a piece of Ustad Inayat Khan & says that he is playing at 80% of the laya. When Shujaat asks him to spell the difference between his style & Ustad Inayat Khan's style - he says: Mai tumhe jhinjhoti sunata hoon par isme itna mai kuch kar nahi paya kyunki mere bajane par Ustad Faiyaaz Khan ka asar itna pada. He also said said Darbari was another Raga where his playing borrows a lot from Aftab-e-Mousiqui. There is another interview where he talks about the impression of Ustad Abdul Karim Khan on his playing style.
Mr. Asian, there are no words to express gratitude to you. You are tirelessly contributing the best of our heritage. Those who love this music will always be thankful to you.
This bandish is a favourite of mine since I heard Sharafat hussain Khansahabs rendition of the same (Akhyian un sang laag). I am unsure if it is on youtube but it seems to be frequently performed by the Agrawale.
AFAIK this one i.e. 'Akhiyaan un sang lagi' was composed by Faiyaz Khan himself. It's not my favorite composition of his, but it captures his 'mood' very well. Faiyaz Khan was a performer at heart, not a scholar. His expressions in this song are multifaceted and beautiful.
Mr. Asokan, either it is Calcutta or Kolkata. Would you use the wrong spelling for any other major city in your country? This city has given you and other music lovers a lot. Please be respectful towards it.
@@drpashalatif1523 None of the artists you mentioned belonged to Agra gharana. They were from Jaipur ATRAUALI, which is entirely different from Agra/Rangeela/Agra-Atrauli gharana.
My listening carer started with Ustad Faiyaz Khan in 1942 at the age of 11. I am now 92 and still enjoy and recall those days in Bombay.
