Nice dude. That’s a proud smile for good reason. So nice to see someone “over”-engineering their seed setup. Underrated part of the process!

I love that his t-shirt is inside out.
I recognize that smile. (My father was an engineer)
People see the finished product and how well it works. What they don't see are the hours, days, months of thought and the prototypes leading to the finished product. Engineers get an idea in their mind and think things through while eating, brushing their teeth, petting a dog, etc....
Anyone who lives with an engineer knows that smile that comes when a product finally works well. And EVERYTHING THEY LIVE WITH HAS TO BE ENGINEERED/MODIFIED.!.!
    Being raised by an engineer is interesting - ( I didn't learn "Birds & Bees" - I learned "Plugs & Sockets".) :-p
And while this layout is excellent - I guarantee, in the 9 months since this was uploaded, he has thought (at least 100 thoughts) about tweaking. :-)

I'm a builder with designing and engineering knowledge and I can already see me doing something like this. with engineering mentality we think in square foot and wastage. when shifting into farming we see that most farmers can make more money in less square-foot with less work, just proper planning and learn from your mistakes

I’m not an engineer. But have something similar on a smaller scale. The filler & seed hole thing.
But since I recycle from my container garden, I have a metal screen to do the sifting when plants are done. And that in turns goes into emulsion I believe it’s called. Kinda like compost for reconstituting.
I wish I have land for this though !

Freakin' amazing! The stifled engineer inside me is jumping up and down with glee! Only makes sense though if you've got ten more big hot houses outside this one growing tons of stuff. Probably is. I WILL HAVE to duplicate this effort!

Sweet set up! I would add one thing though, having a bad back myself: to load the bag at the beginning, i would add a hinged plank with a bottom ledge, so you would load and cut the bag at hip level, then just lift the plank on its hinge to empty the bag, or even put this motion on a poulie system, but that's just me being lazy now...

My technical question is how do you discard the extra seeds from the seeder before sowing, important detail which is not shown in this otherwise great setup.

You dump them out. The one's not suctioned to a hole, you empty them out.

Hey guys thx for sharing! It gave me some great amount of inspiration for our new CSA project. I was wondering what type of sprinklers you use in here and if it is controlled by any computer or manually. Does it spread the water propperly, so that no handwatering is neccesary.

Sorry, but I can't resist... Why is the engineer smiling? Let's see, it could be because of the incredible system he has set up - truly amazing! Is there an alternative hypothesis? Let's see:
    1. Dreadlock ponytail.
    2. Too much of a grin for your typical serious engineer-type.
    3. Possible gynecomastia? (Or, maybe just has curious cravings for Hostess Cupcakes, even though he spends his time growing vegan delights.)
    4. Choice of Happy Frog potting mix. (This is kind of a tie-breaker.)
Me, I am saying, six of one, half a dozen of the other. Awesome system! You didn't point out the compartments underneath where you capture the excess potting mix or perlite. Whatever else it is you are growing, it clearly doesn't affect your effectiveness as an engineer!

sorry: that's a very ineffective system.
a real designer - I've been one, now retirement-
it would have been designed, constructed - that with all the time and labor
    saves.
Because: a designer always has the task: to have the most effective system possible
Construct, invent - save time, effort and costs
to produce as efficiently as possible

    • @howellfarmgirl
      @howellfarmgirl 6 лет назад +4

It is a shame they didn't teach English at your engineering school. As a market farmer and a retired engineer and electrician this is an effective set up meant to do multiple trays at a time. He is probably making 200K plus every season with two months off each year. So Schmidt (love that name!) show off your skills and post your own video of a system that helps you make 200K plus annually with two months off work.
