Yeah, he Is right. I don't think a lot of men that react to music really take seriously the concept of the female life experience and that's really sad.
i remember vividly when the ttpd tracklist came out, he was mocking the hell out of it. and i just knew that if any of those titles were in a drake album, or tyler the creator, or any of the male rappers, he would never laugh condescendingly like that
It seems to me that if he can’t relate to something a female artist is saying he deems it silly or unimportant and doesn’t take the time to figure out the meaning behind the words. There’s been instances when he’s criticizing some lyrics but the real problem is that he’s just completely missing the point.
@@CindyR4Yeah... And this behaviour of him is all over Taylor's TTPD review... He would dismiss and make fun of an idea or experience simply because another woman had already experienced it... As if women can't have universal experiences.
When a woman takes herself and her feelings seriously, she's considered cringe. But if a woman mocks herself before anyone else can, then she's perfectly self aware. Why should you have to mock your feelings to validate them? How silly and sexist. Halsey is an artist, not a clown! Crazy that people think that way
Honestly this is such a great summary of what is happening. I mean Taylor is a great example of this too. People mocked her for being taking things too seriously until she started poking fun at herself with Shake it Off and Blank Space. It’s so unfortunate that this happens
I think its interesting how people "discovered" Charli just when our attention spans are decreasing, "cringe" shaming is through the roof and media literacy is all too low. Brat is great! but its perfect for people with the exact same traits as mentioned above. Its brash, transparent and catchy.

Beyoncé’s unwillingness to explain herself or promote her work is detrimental to her commercial success (to a degree) but it weirdly works for her legacy. It’s as if she has checked out of being a pop star.
Oh my god that Lover 2.0 opinion 💀💀💀The Joe Alwyn songwriting discourse always sends me WEST….. I sometimes bake cookies with my 3 toddlers. It’s something fun we do together but if I wasn’t there would they be able to make the cookies? No. My house would be burnt down. The end 😂
These swifties (or 'joe widows' as they call themselves) give way too much credit to joe alwyn and love to hype him up as someone who made taylor a better person, and that since she's broken up with him she's lost all sense of morality. Like one time I read one of them say that joe obviously pushed her to be more political and outspoken about liberal beliefs, and that since she's with travis she's now a full-on trump supporter. Like... I'm sorry but Taylor Swift has always been a textbook example of a privileged white liberal woman, she's always been like that, she is like that, and always will be like that. And if you think that a man can change that then you're downright delusional. And that's not even touching all of the things they say about joe's contribution to her artistry these past few years which is honestly worse.
No cause truly the joe obsession needs to be studied cause it was already crazy before but after ttpd? She was so bored that they broke up after 6 years and she wrote an album about the guy she was imagining cheating on him with while they were still together. She pretty much spoke to them directly and still they are like she should go back to the cage! grey is and will always be her color! Insanity
About the Joe opinion on 35:00, I totally agree with Zack. And for me the ONLY reason why Taylor credited Joe in a few songs is because she didn't want to deal with a lawsuit post break up (in case they broke up one day, and they did), because she knew she was going to use a few sentences she heard him say at home and didn't want him to be dragging her into a legal battle. She has said that having a good lawyer is the most important thing to succeed as an artist/singer/song writer. And she knows, after years of having and being guided by a legal team, what can legally implicate her. People need to understand that Taylor is not a naive little girl. She is a fierce smart successful businesswoman who knows the legal challenges of her job.
I think Sabrina's legacy will be in her humor and wit, and I think that lends itself really well to transcending different eras. I loved short and sweet because I really got to see that side of her and it doesn't feel like just a trick or trend that will fade any time soon
the amount of sexism in today’s world is so beyond me. why is it that we are constantly praying on youn g women’s’ downfalls just because they are having a moment of success. why can’t people just uplift each other and uplift the women who are shaping the culture in all industries. because, let’s be honest, it’s been a longgggg time since i have seen a successful man with any impact on the world getting torn down. you explain it sooo perfectly.
crabs in a bucket mentality baby. people live for the downfall more than the success story, I think there’s a feeling of power that they can uplift someone to success, money and fame but can also take it away. I think that’s also part of the reason people have an issue with “nepo babies”, they can’t take ownership of their career in the same way
I mean one guys still get torn down but two and probably more primarily all of these female pop stars have an overwhelming majority of female fans and so I would say that it is not sexism at all. Is it toxic sure but men and women behave differently and are toxic in different ways and this is a very female reaction to success.
The way Fantano talked about Sabrina's album, making comments about how she calls her love interests dumb and saying "does she even like the men she dates?", he has really gone downhill and just forms personal opinions on artists and their love lives. The way he got up and arms about Taylor talking about checking Matty's location in The Black Dog and basically calling her creepy and toxic as if many other people don't do things like stalking their exes pages??? This man's divorce has really got him just judging women's characters and relationships by their lyrics and it is so bizarre lol
idt thats it i think that being a fan of an artist really makes you see them in a different light and hes just not a fan of sabrina or taylor so because he doesnt like the album he adds in critiques of the character they show in the album. he gave brat a 10/10 and a lot of charli's lyrcis are about her relationships and her character and perspective as a woman. idt fantano is biased i think ygs just expect him to like albums that he doesn't like
btw, it baffles me that katy perry’s album was “better” to him than halsey’s beautiful new album. also, he talked about radical floptimism as if it was the next monalisa
Our bravest soldier for facing these half-baked opinions. Yet all of them are delivered with such...such conviction. It's fascinating really... I for one, don't have the patience to respond. So I'll leave it to the professionals
Camila Cabello's career is not over because she has a solid fan base. While she may be disliked by the pop culture stans, she has cultivated a strong fan base that stick by her and stream her music. 12 years into her career and she is still pulling great numbers in terms of monthly listeners. Her talent speaks for itself; as you said she is both a great vocalist and performer. Her live performances NEVER disappoint.
The best way I can describe Gracie is “rush pop”. Her best songs and the best part of her songs are always when she starts spittin’. It’s what makes that’s so true that good. It’s just so short but it feels so long, she goes so fast and you want to keep up. Idk if that explains it well but.. rush pop.
I completely agree with this! You hit the nail on the head. I don’t like Gracie’s music all that much, but when she does the “rush pop” thing you were talking about, it gets stuck in my head lol. That’s So True and I Love You, I’m Sorry are great examples of this.
Absolutely! Gracie’s bag is in her most desperate songs and moments, the ones where she’s showing raw emotions, and singing at the top of her lungs not in the ones she’s speaking at 2dB and whispering in your ear. That’s why I believe Let it happen is one of the best on her record and so genuinely underated.
I'm beyhive and I appreciate how respectful you are about criticizing B even if I don't agree because Beyonce has said that she wants the world to pay attention to the message on "cowboy Carter" and not get distracted by visuals. Cowboy Carter is one of Beyonce's best albums. The lyrics, impeccable vocals(including opera),the storytelling about black and American icons Linda Martell, dolly parton,Willie Nelson and the introduction of unknown talented new country artists especially shaboozey who has been catapulted to no.1 on the billboard charts and is now Grammy nominated...should be studied by today's pop stars.
Zach this is probably the best unpopular opinion video so far, you’re so well spoken and nuanced that it really is a breath of fresh air these days in the pop sphere.

I can't stand it when people give joe credit for taylors work. If ts12 is her best work will those people give travis the credit? It's so ridiculous. Joe doesn't even have an album out to show he can write on his own.
for real, Taylor has always been and will continue to be the mastermind behind her work. Her bfs are simply muses, and it takes an artist to make the most of a muse.
the most I would say is that she makes her work excellent to prove a point to them. dear john showed the world she could write a better john mayer song than john mayer could. jake and joe were both so pretentious, so she wrote folklore and red to make records that even they couldn’t snub. she used matty’s own sonic landscape in ttpd as a reference and a fu. none of those things are because the men were great, it’s always because taylor is.
Ok, but It's not really fair to give him NO credit or equal credit as just a muse though when he co wrote some of the songs, if the Folklore documentary is to be believed he wrote the entire first verse and refrain of Betty, including lyrics and also co wrote several other songs.
@@theswiftologist I was so happy to see Doechii get 4 nominations this year at the grammys, shes really the new and upcoming rapper in my eyes. Her mixtape was nominated for best rap album of the year and first women in the 2020s decade to do so! I got into her from her feature on Katy Perry's album (flop) but since I have been so invested.
The "Taylor is threatened😡" narrative is so silly to me because y'all, she is well aware of her own desperation for that top spot and will NOT hesitate to get it! Regardless if it might be perceived as selfish
I almost don’t even think it’s perceived as selfish as much as it is sad and immature. If a pop performer (who is also a billionaire) is that concerned and insecure about maintaining a top spot and legacy, then it seems like there’s a profound and unsettling insecurity there
@@LD-tn6ffi think it's part of the human nature wanting to be the best in your field. An athlete Who wants to win a Gold medal Is not selfish for wanting so. I think that She has her issues like everyone but wanting to stay on top of her game Is not One of them.
I know you’ve already done ur eras tour predictions before tour but i’d love to watch you do a video where you create your own eras tour given the material we have now. Including what outfits you’d want her to wear, what position the eras go in, staging, her performance, and the mashups and transitions etc. Personally i’ve just taken the set list we have now and amended it where EVERY era has a fair amount of songs, added more deep cuts and made every era set have a link back to their og era e.g. holy ground is performed with the drums from the red tour 😁
I love watching your opinions develop on things in real time. I Remember the first time you said you heard “I luv it” you hated it. Then you mentioned in another video how you’ve been listening to it but still kinda like horrified. And then you mentioned that it’s kinda growing on you. And now you come to say that you (kinda?) love it. This is why your journalistic style is so good. You truly process and report your opinions in full, momentary detail, without letting ego get in the way.
Edited for typo: Great take on Mendes. Sabrina summed it up on Dumb & Poetic with the title of the song and the lyric “I promise the mushrooms aren’t changing your life.” Navel gazing is a good way to describe his vibe. If you watch his mv for Why, Why, Why and take a shot every time he appears shirtless, you better not drive for at least 24 hours.
15:14 This reminds me I saw a DELUSIONAL tik tok saying that Taylor inviting Sabrina on stage in the eras tour was Taylor trying to “leech off Sabrina’s success” as if 1. it’s not the other way around (not that Sabrina’s leeching but it’s Sabrina who’s benefiting not Taylor) 2. Taylor has consistently been one of the main pop girls for literally over a decade why would Sabrina’s one good year threaten her 💀 People are too focused on the present and not the long term legacy
Sabrina is absolutely having a moment and it’s sweet that Taylor supports her so much. To me, it shows that Taylor isn’t threatened by her and knows that she can be the Queen and celebrate fabulous Princesses who will become Queens in time.
Agree on everything you said about Camila! I adore her for taking the risk. I love the Miami influences as a south Florida native. It felt like a hug from my childhood of different Latin and rap influences in music I was hearing around me. C, XOXO caught onto me and I really love it now. I agree that I LUV IT grew on me as well 😅
I have appreciated the space that you’ve created for pop commentary/critique. I have commented on things here and there on Instagram and feel like even if I say something that’s pretty neutral someone still finds a way to be combative. Also: on concert etiquette I think it’s important to get the most out of the $$ you spent for the ticket! Dance and sing your heart out 😆😆
I disagree about concert etiquette. If someone is so distracting that they're making the experiences of the people around them not worth THEIR money, that's unfair. I think there's limits to how people should behave. Not everyone wants to scream at the top of their lungs and that's ok too, they should still get to enjoy the show.
your unpopular opinions are a breath of fresh air tbh. its cool to see someone with good points and mindful opinions that can also be “rude” to the people that deserve. i love tuning in to your channel and dissecting every topic you discuss! 🫶
your take on casual access to Taylor. SPOT ON. I love her early work up but you just cannot casually access her and swifities can sometimes go out of their way to make u feel unworthy of listening to her and participating if you don’t know ALL the lore. LOVE U KEEP ON DOING WHAT YOU DO
For people that don’t think album cycles last long enough, I recommend trying out vinyl. It takes commitment to buy something that pricey, dedicate to keeping it clean, and playing correctly that you find yourself actually trying to sit and play the album though and analyze the music fully. It’s just a vibe tbh and the music feels like it lasts longer
Rihanna’s Diamonds world tour was the eras tour of the 2010’s. And a$ap opened for her… now he’s her baby daddy 🥹 love my bag gal, G4L. I’m 32 so a lot of the younger kids don’t understand. I saw Lana at a CIVIC CENTER with almost no crowd. Just not like the old days anymore 😞
Thank you for this, but especially thank your for your Guts watch party. It was such a fun, much-needed distraction from the election and helped things feel a little more okay for a few minutes.
There’s was a Swiftologist comment that said that Joe was dumb for not taking advantage of dating Taylor and her fame and now… He has the smallest level of credit for her work and people are bothered?

I've loved Lana del Rey ever since Born to Die, I'm a life long fan. But the SECOND she talked about a country album I KNEW she wasn't gonna release it lol. If Lasso ever comes out I'll be surprised

The way the critics have been treating The Great Impersonator is so disingenuous and hurtful and honestly pretty gross. Glad to hear you talk about that!
"Good Graces" reminds me more of mid-90s R&B than a direct ripoff of Ariana, like she went straight to Ariana's own inspiration for mining. The ripoff accusations just tell me how little about music some stans actually know.
A Southern Gothic album from Lana would be super interesting, and I like the idea of Camila boldly moving into this new space, leaning into the Miami vibes. One thing I've noticed in Gen in American Pop Culture, is the rise of American Regionalism. It's always there as a backdrop, but to me it seems like these artists are using their surroundings as a way to build character and connection. Sabrina is doing this well, I think, even the playboy outfit was iconically California in a way. Our Queen did this exceptionally well with 1989, making it "The New York Album", and has leaned into New York as a main character several times. It's just interesting to see other artists do it with new and fresh characters like the Southwest and Miami.
just wanted to say i’m so grateful you’ve been posting videos this week after the US election. a lot of creators have stopped positing/are taking a break (and understandably so). but i’m glad you’re posting-it’s a welcome distraction. :)

4:43 Fantano is such a misagonyst. A female artist could release a once in a lifetime masterpiece and if a male artist farted into the mic the same week, he would give the fart a better review.
I'm sorry, did he not give brat a 10? Are most of his extremely negavite reviews NOT for men? Not saying he's absolved of criticism for his critiques, but Fantano famously does not go easy on men's albums
@@drakon0873 he might go hard on men's MUSIC. but he always goes harder on women's promo, looks, personalities, how they come off, how they present themselves etc etc. He spent the longest time on the Great Impersonator talking about the promotional campaign of the album.

Fantano’s Sabrina review also really rubbed me the wrong way - I recall him talking about “Taste” and saying she sounds controlling and immature, and “that’s not how relationships work”….okay??? It’s a song? It’s allowed to be about petty drama if it wants to be, why is Sabrina being held to this moral standard? No one is looking at her album as a guide to have a healthy and mature relationship lmao? Also love the B’day shout out, I remember listening to it in middle school and it’s what made me a life long Bey listener. Ring the alarm and Deja vu are such underrated songs by her.
it's really funny that gracie is now considered a taynepobaby because the first time i ever heard of her was when olivia rodrigo mentioned her back in her Sour era
I think it's fair to say that the level of public interest in Sabrina has peaked this year. I don't see her having a "downfall" but once she's no longer the shiny new toy, the chart success will steadily decline. She'll probably always be relevant and have a steady fan base like Halsey does.
In every single one of these videos you've made, i get the sense that many of the submissions are not even real opinions but something that they think you might like or agree with, cause they take like a reasonable opinion you've shared in the past, and then take it to the next level or extrapolate it to something it has nothing to do with, turning it into something that you absolutely despise 💀
As a kpop fan, hearing the low importance of the music video is a whiplash to me, because to this moment, music videos are still a very strong component of the overall work that groups and soloists make, and there are in this same year many amazing MVs released (for examples, aespa's MV for Armageddon, IVE's Heya, ARTMS's Virtual Angel and so on)
I am a woman and I used to love Fantano’s reviews, but the misogyny is not ok, just this year alone, he slammed almost every female artist and it felt like they were getting personally attacked, there was no critical analysis, or anything just hate. He has become very cruel to be honest. So thank you for bringing that up. What he said about Halsey is terrible.

I don't think you have to be active to continue being a legend, its all about you impact and staying power. For example, Michael Jackson is still the biggest megastar to ever live but he died 15 years ago, noone can deny he is still THEE legend
Hey Zach, I just wanted to say that I am completely obsessed with The Evolution of a Snake podcast. I play it in my car for short trips and road trips, you name it. Congratulations to you and Madeline for being so iconic 😄
My unpopular opinion…people don’t know what a metaphor is. They are seeing life as black or white with no room for grey. When I hear “glittery gel pen song”, I think happy, being in love, excited. That is what I think the song will be about. Like you said, to make it sound like a bad description is that black or white thinking.
You’re right but I think he primarily meant she’s not going to anoint anyone who could be in genuine competition with her, and Sabrina and Gracie occupy different niches than she does
i keep hearing “that’s so true” by gracie abrams on my fyp and i’m baffled at how people think that song is good… it’s literally just word salad and nothing in the song makes any sense. it’s the same with “i love you i’m sorry”, i just never got how people think her songwriting is good😭
? It’s about feeling inferior and obsessed with an ex new girl and the frustration with still being heartbroken by someone who’s literally “just another dude”?
The problem with Cowboy Carter is not that we do not have a form of visual, because we didn’t have Renaissance visuals for almost a year. The problem is that CC is a less cohesive album, it’s full of slow moments and high bangers, interludes, serious and unserious songs. It’s also a 27 track project, while Renaissance was a 16 track long album of SONGS, of bangers, bops. Not saying that CC is worse than Renaissance but the latter is easier to get attached to and to have fun with. - Sabrina Carpenter created one of the best albums of this year: in her 11 tracks, she made fun bops, cute slow moments, she served vocals and aesthetic and created an era of her own. Is she a Taydaughter? Yes, but who isn’t? And ALSO, wasn’t Sabrina “on her own” for most of 2024? She’s been the It girl since April and has never missed a slay this year.

The end 😂
Also, if someone's an athlete he can't be inspiring or smart? Such a shallow way of thinking...
LOVED this read of Joe 😂😂😂
Amazing comparison. I love a good metaphor.
Insanity
Sabrina’s Dumb & Poetic really ruined Shawn’s whole album rollout, she basically spelled it all out in 2 minutes and 13 seconds 😭
Trrrruueeee, I still check out his reviews but damn sometimes I’m rolling my eyes. Similar thing happened with Ariana’s album
I also hate the way he talked about Halsey's new album. It's ok if you don't like something, but to miss the point like that...idk It's kinda dumb.
idt thats it i think that being a fan of an artist really makes you see them in a different light and hes just not a fan of sabrina or taylor so because he doesnt like the album he adds in critiques of the character they show in the album. he gave brat a 10/10 and a lot of charli's lyrcis are about her relationships and her character and perspective as a woman. idt fantano is biased i think ygs just expect him to like albums that he doesn't like
btw, it baffles me that katy perry’s album was “better” to him than halsey’s beautiful new album. also, he talked about radical floptimism as if it was the next monalisa

The rant about people assigning too much importance to Taylor's love interest when it comes to her creative process... oh you were SPITTING
The best way I can describe Gracie is “rush pop”. Her best songs and the best part of her songs are always when she starts spittin’. It’s what makes that’s so true that good. It’s just so short but it feels so long, she goes so fast and you want to keep up. Idk if that explains it well but.. rush pop.
Absolutely! That’s why the I Love You I’m Sorry bridge went so viral
I completely agree with this! You hit the nail on the head. I don’t like Gracie’s music all that much, but when she does the “rush pop” thing you were talking about, it gets stuck in my head lol. That’s So True and I Love You, I’m Sorry are great examples of this.
I love that take

@phtherapyxcast7996 100%! Muses come and go but the albums have been consistently good to great.
the most I would say is that she makes her work excellent to prove a point to them. dear john showed the world she could write a better john mayer song than john mayer could. jake and joe were both so pretentious, so she wrote folklore and red to make records that even they couldn’t snub. she used matty’s own sonic landscape in ttpd as a reference and a fu. none of those things are because the men were great, it’s always because taylor is.
I’d be damned if TS12 would beat Folklore cause I doubt it lol 😂
Ok, but It's not really fair to give him NO credit or equal credit as just a muse though when he co wrote some of the songs, if the Folklore documentary is to be believed he wrote the entire first verse and refrain of Betty, including lyrics and also co wrote several other songs.

The "Taylor is threatened😡" narrative is so silly to me because y'all, she is well aware of her own desperation for that top spot and will NOT hesitate to get it! Regardless if it might be perceived as selfish
+ the transition to making pop music is quite literally the prime example of this. Taylor wanted that AOTY, so she did what she had to do 🤷♀️
I almost don’t even think it’s perceived as selfish as much as it is sad and immature. If a pop performer (who is also a billionaire) is that concerned and insecure about maintaining a top spot and legacy, then it seems like there’s a profound and unsettling insecurity there

This reminds me I saw a DELUSIONAL tik tok saying that Taylor inviting Sabrina on stage in the eras tour was Taylor trying to “leech off Sabrina’s success” as if 1. it’s not the other way around (not that Sabrina’s leeching but it’s Sabrina who’s benefiting not Taylor) 2. Taylor has consistently been one of the main pop girls for literally over a decade why would Sabrina’s one good year threaten her 💀

I disagree about concert etiquette. If someone is so distracting that they're making the experiences of the people around them not worth THEIR money, that's unfair. I think there's limits to how people should behave. Not everyone wants to scream at the top of their lungs and that's ok too, they should still get to enjoy the show.

For example, Michael Jackson is still the biggest megastar to ever live but he died 15 years ago, noone can deny he is still THEE legend
an almost 1hr video? oh we are getting FED
Like you said, to make it sound like a bad description is that black or white thinking.
thank you zach you have fed us
I try!
To be fair, in a previous video you said Taylor doesn't pick anyone who has queen potential. You said that! I remember lol 😆
You’re right but I think he primarily meant she’s not going to anoint anyone who could be in genuine competition with her, and Sabrina and Gracie occupy different niches than she does
@kaytoomuchsalt5100 that makes sense 😊
the video about ambiguity intolerance sounds so interesting! looking forward to watching it whenever it comes out :)
i may not agree to all your takes but I just love watching you talk because you are so articulate and so fluent
i keep hearing “that’s so true” by gracie abrams on my fyp and i’m baffled at how people think that song is good… it’s literally just word salad and nothing in the song makes any sense. it’s the same with “i love you i’m sorry”, i just never got how people think her songwriting is good😭
Like... What's so true girl? Elaborate
Same! I just don’t understand what she’s singing about.😅
shes a nepo baby
? It’s about feeling inferior and obsessed with an ex new girl and the frustration with still being heartbroken by someone who’s literally “just another dude”?
I love you! Thank you for always saving my Sunday .. during my Sundays scaries 🥲
You are so welcome!
CLOCKED IN AND READYYY
The problem with Cowboy Carter is not that we do not have a form of visual, because we didn’t have Renaissance visuals for almost a year. The problem is that CC is a less cohesive album, it’s full of slow moments and high bangers, interludes, serious and unserious songs. It’s also a 27 track project, while Renaissance was a 16 track long album of SONGS, of bangers, bops. Not saying that CC is worse than Renaissance but the latter is easier to get attached to and to have fun with.

Sabrina Carpenter created one of the best albums of this year: in her 11 tracks, she made fun bops, cute slow moments, she served vocals and aesthetic and created an era of her own. Is she a Taydaughter? Yes, but who isn’t? And ALSO, wasn’t Sabrina “on her own” for most of 2024? She’s been the It girl since April and has never missed a slay this year.
