KPop is not a genre they are an industry. KPop has just as many genres as the Western Market (USA, UK, Canadian, etc). I would say there are a lot of pop groups in the industry but there is also Rock, Heavy Metal, etc. BTS roots are in Hip Hop, R&B & Rap. They are true Artists and love all kinds of music. So you will find they love to blend multiple genres in a song. Whatever genre you are into you will find a song you will like. While I like their entire discography my favorite is their Hip Hop, Rap, R&B and Latin Pop the most. Their live performances to me are better than their MVs because usually their lives have live bands and they change up the genres (same lyrics just different beats). No other group out there are as versatile as BTS. Then their solo projects are different than their group projects. Yes it’s an all guy group. The one you probably thought was female was Jimin. He is very angelic looking and dresses I guess more non binary than the others (like Prince) but he is definitely masculine. He has the highest vocal range and it is very unique compared to other singers that sing that high. Other artists from other groups try to sing Jimin’s parts and fail. While BTS has a large number of members compared to western guy groups I prefer them over any other guy groups because each of them have very distinct vocal styles. They use their voices like instruments. When 2 members harmonize together it sounds like a completely different person singing. This is because they mix vocal registers (one high one low) vs other groups harmonizing in the same register). Appreciate you being open to K-pop and checking out BTS (7-member So. Korean male group). FYI, as a group, they only have a handful of English songs, the majority is sung in Korean/Japanese (turn on captions!). They are diverse: pop, ballad, rap, rock, EDM, jazz, soul, R&B, hip hop, Latin pop, moombahton, trap, etc. K-pop male idols wear performance makeup (it's a cultural thing) but other artists did too (i.e. Prince, David Bowie, Duran Duran, Motley Crue, KISS, etc.). 3 rappers (RM, Suga, J-Hope), & 4 vocalists (Jungkook, V, Jimin, Jin). Grammy-nominated & have won countless awards & accolades. They write/produce many of their songs. Some of their popular songs: Mic Drop (Steve Aoki remix), Black Swan, Blood/Sweat/&Tears, Butter, Fake Love, to get you started!
This is one of the few BTS songs that they didn't write for themselves (although the rappers contributed some lyrics, I think) and it's part of what I call "the big dumb pop songs" which were put out to cheer people up during the covid lockdown, but also to help snare more English-speakers into checking them out. Their agency/record label had to really convince the guys to do this, because usually they write songs from their own lived experiences and those songs have real meaning and messages, unlike Dynamite and Butter. Mind you, I don't skip these songs when they come up on a playlist or something, because they're fine, but I'm right there with you on never being a pop music fan. I like rock, alt rock, jazz, blues, RnB, and classical... but these days, I also listen to a lot of hiphop and rap because of BTS's amazing rap line. So, when people say that these guys do a lot of genres... they aren't kidding. Most of their songs actually span two or three genres, but they always combine it so skillfully that it really sounds good! One day after living military, he did an event where he sang few of his solo songs and he hugged 1.000 Armys ( how we fans are called). They are going to reunite only in June of 2025. Every member (7) have solo projects. They are very different as solo artist, but they are wonderful as a group. They are not only about music. They have so much content, that it take a really long time to be able to see everything. They had their own variety show called Run BTS. They have In The Soop wich is their vacation on Korea. It is very common for men to wear stage makeup in Korea. Jimin has a very androgynous look so stylists have played that up for some time. But during their debut it was all about machismo, lol. Just like all of the members -- Jimin can snap from sweet boy next door to man who will eat you alive.

Dynamite was relesed during the pandemic to chear up BTS fans , ARMY, all around the world that's why is so poppy! If you want to continue to react to BTS you need to lnow that is a group of seven men and their music is very versatile! They have a lot of hip hop songs since they begun as a hip hop group and 3 out 7 are rappers! Every album they release is different from the previous! So if you like hip hop start from Mic Drop collab with Steve Aioki and the Designer. If you prefer a more rock type of music you can start with "ON" Kinetic manifesto ! Have in mind that 99% of their songs include incredible dancing performances!

It is very common for men to wear stage makeup in Korea. Jimin has a very androgynous look so stylists have played that up for some time. But during their debut it was all about machismo, lol.
