This is an ambient drone with the Soma Lyra-8 and the Fabfilter Volcano 9.
Ording is my latest album on bandcamp: martingoldmann...
I just saw a video about the Fabfilter Volcano. As soon as they told about the modulation features I bought the filter.
This is a simple drone with the Soma Lyra-8. It has a little movement with its own LFO.
In Logic I added the first instance of Volcano with some movement for the Low Pass Filter Cutoff.
Also there is a bell around 90Hz with some movement in its peak.
After that Valhalla Vintage Verb does some magic.
There is a second instance of Volcano adding a Low Pass Filter to Valhallas output.
It adds some peak (aka Resonance) to the filter cutoff.
There are several filter styles. I used "Hollow“ which adds a lot of character.
Since I want a sparkly high end I added Valhalla Shimmer.
martin, you are the best at creating the type of videos you create. i randomly check to see if you have a new one, even while most of your videos only partially apply to me (if at all). hope you are doing well and enjoying playing with sounds. it is obvious you are a very smart, humorous, and humble person.
best wishes from the US
Thank you for your very nice comment. Much appreciated. I'm pretty fine and I still play around with all my noise engines :) I was quite stacked with work in the last months (which is a good thing) so there weren't many videos. However I released a few tracks on my ambient channel www.youtube.com/@darkambientmoods/
Beautiful! Reminds me a bit of Robert Rich's early work like “Trances/Drones”.
Thanks a lot :)
An unusually light and airy Lyra-8 drone! Very nice! I've been writing a performance piece using just the Lyra-8 and Subharmonicon; there's a whole universe to explore with just those two units! (plus chorus, a couple of delays and 3 reverbs lol).
Yeah, Valhalla Shimmer worked out well for that airy part. I guess, even dark ambient pieces could need some high end. I always used to cut off the high end. Maybe that is not always the right thing to do :)
And yes, you cannot have enough reverb ;-)
Beautiful sound. A filter with modulation topped with reverb finishes the lyra nicely👌🏻
Yeah it does a good job :) Thanks!
This is great work! Loved the movement of the drone, sounds very spacious. Nice sense of depth to the sound.
Thank you :)
As always: Very nice (meaning: "Huba!").
The "Fabfilter Volcano" is definitely a most interesting filter-PlugIn.
Danke, Henrik :) - I just fell in love with it.
Very nice! Great to see the Lyra-8 back in action! I haven’t used mine in awhile here actually. Enjoyed the movement within this drone. Keeps it very interesting & mysterious.
Thank you, Dylan. Filter movement really does a lot for this track. And also the LFO is a very powerful tool :)
Superb
Thank you :)
Very, very nice. We can all be Loscil these days! (I mean that as a compliment to both you and him.)
Thanks a lot - very much appreciated! :)
@@martingoldmannmusic Have just shared it ("public") on Facebook (yeah, I'm that old!) - seductive, compelling, moving. You may have only intended it as a demo, but I find it very satisfyingly complete.
Oh yeah, Facebook, those were the times ;-) But seriously: thanks, that is very kind.
Do you want to share any tips in how the patch is setup on Lyra? I see all the switches on ‘fast’. I’m curious what your settings are for hold and pitch as everything sound pretty ‘high’. Thanx for sharing knowledge.
Sure :)
* Both LFOs very slow but with a little difference between A and B. Settings OR and SYNC off.
* Delay MOD 1 at half past nine, MOD 2 at eleven o'clock.
* Delay TIME 1 at two , TIME 2 at almost three o'clock.
* Delay MODE is self, FB at twelve o'clock, MIX at eleven.
* HOLD (LOW) at around one o'clock
* HOLD (HIGH) at two o'clock
* TOTAL FB OFF
* VIBRATO OFF
* 34->56 and 78->12 OFF
* PITCH (LOW) at twelve
* PITCH (HIGH) at twelve
MOD Switches from Left to Right
OFF - OFF - 7/8 - LFO
((The last LFO is important for the movement))
(from here I have to guess a little bit)
* SHARP AND MOD From Left to Right:
MOD at seven (lowest value)
SHARP at two
SHARP at ten
MOD at seven
MOD at nine
SHARP at two
SHARP at eleven
MOD at eight
* TUNINGS Left to Right (roughly)
half past twelve
two
two
two (a little above)
twelve
twelve (a little above)
one (a little below)
two
The thing about the tuning is: just a tiny bit of movement goes a long way.
And all fast switches are off :)
Hope that helps!
@@martingoldmannmusic Wow, very detailed. Thanx so much.
you are very welcome
btw after your comment I changed my video recording setup to show all dial settings :) Thanks for the hint!
