I have been trying to add a comment about how the people of the U.S. and all democracies have limited power over their government because of the power of lobbying groups (the arms industry, natural resources industry, and the Israeli lobby). This is particularly true during elections. Politicians need millions of dollars for their election campaigns; in order to get that money, they have to do what these rich and powerful lobby groups want: this is why just before every election, politicians vote to bomb people or to declare war e.g. 3 weeks before the U.S. elections, U.S. Congress voted to attack Iraq, based on false information that Iraq had "weapons of mass destruction" -- Iraq had none because they had already given them up. (What Iraq DID have was oil which western governments wanted acquire for as little as possible to kerp their voters happy -- to the great detriment of the Iraqi people. So, Iraq was carpet-bombed killing 200,000 people, its infrastructure destroyed, its poorly armed army subdued, and the Sunni police force which kept order was dispersed -- if the U.S. had not created a lot of unemployed policemen who had to feed their families, those policemen might not have become Isis. Just to say that war just produces more experienced warriors, and at the same time depletes all countries of money that is needed for food, shelter, medical care and education.War serves primarily the rich and powerful. The rest of us are better off paying a price that is fair to the people from whom we are taking that oil and natural resources. There are 50 countries going through elections this year; so, the lobbying groups are in high gear. Every country is out to arm itself. God help the people if the world. The only way out is for voters from all countries to write 1) their political representatives who are in power, 2) write their president/prime minister, 3)write all leaders of the opposing parties and INSIST 1) that strict limits be put on election funding, 2) that each politician have a spot on a specific election website provided by government where each politician in the country can present his/her written platform and videos in which they can explain why they have this point of view, and why he/she thinks it's better than opponents' perspective; 3) that these wrtten platforms and videas be preserved even after the elections to compare what each politician does versus what he said he would do. Another suggestion is that each candidate also keep a personal website identical to his/her presentation on the government website in order to be sure that the government website is not tampered with. It is important for each voter to donate time and money to his/her candidate. Also, every candidate must show where he/she got his/her money -- before, after and during the election. Why do so many of these politicians look so financually well- off after they leave power? And, why are so many countries in major war debt which is put on the backs of its people -- at high cost.
