- The ICJ will hold its second day of hearings today. It's all part of a week-long process in which representatives from 52 countries will provide oral arguments on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza.
A Palestinian legal team kickstarted hearings in The Hague on Monday, while Israel has refused to participate in proceedings beyond a written argument. Today, the court will hear oral arguments from the following 11 countries: South Africa, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Netherlands, Bangladesh, Belgium, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada and Chile.

There were two events which happened today in Britain. The first, was the leader of the Labour party Sir Keir Starmer, finally coming out publicly and demanding a complete end to the bombings in Gaza. Soon after the BBC announced that the son of the King of England, prince William backed up his call for a total ceasefire in Gaza. Wow ! For any member of the royal family to make such a statement in public relating to the present conflict, is massive. Also today, the labour party are holding an open vote on the issue which was put before the house of commons by the Scottish Nationalist party for a complete ceasefire in Gaza. The winds are changing people !

Algeria’s arguments are excellent and directed at the ICJ to do their jobs right. They seem arcane but are actually a straight jacket to make the ICJ to not be wishy washy as in the past. It’s an important strategy.
I see the unified strategy building - one upon another. Another very important point was invoking the right, duty and power of 3rd party nations to step in should the ICJ fail to take/recommend appropriate action. These countries appear to be working together seamlessly, in tandem! So good to see.
Hearing and listening are two different things.

As a Dutch I do not agree with the Dutch Kingdom. Short occupation in 67 would have been legal. But seeing how long the Occupation has become it also means the natives have the right to self defence. Israel cannot claim self defence based on the self defence of the Palestinians.
Its a loop that would continue forever. As long as you are the occupier there will be forces opposing the occupation.
We live in 2024, times have changed. You cannot hold people hostage for something that has happened so long time ago.
If Israël is afraid of attacks then let the International community protect the external borders and IDF the internal borders of Israel.
