- The main quest I have is to help people understand that being frugal does not mean to be cheap. The video on my RUclips channel explains how to get angel hair (very thin flash) from a fabric used to make dresses and other garments.

We can see things in the video just fine, and most all of us have common sense, we get it!!
Every youtuber goes on and on about whether we can see something or not!! The only time we can not see something is when people move out of the camera frame...now we can not see!!

On one hand, I do support my local fly shops as much as possible.

I have discovered that a small pair of haemostats may be the best hackle pliers you will ever use! Once that hackle is gripped and locked it has a n excellent grip!
Yep, I have a bunch of them in different sizes. The best size is the 3 inch ones.
Fishtail yarn from Temu, cheap, reasonable lengths available, easy enough to dissemble. Even 4 or 5 threads on a smaller dark body fly scattered across the body, and tied at the tail. Good video! I love sourcing my materials on the cheap.
Thank you... I won't buy anything off Temu. That's why I look for sources right under our noses.
'Been using this stuff for a few years . . . I picked up several different colors of it at a DOLLAR TREE store - During one Halloween , there were little girl's 'costumes' that had AT LEAST 2 yards of the material in EACH ONE ! ! ! Correct me if I'm wrong . . . One dollar plus tax is LESS than 6.99 plus tax !
I haven't made any brushes out of it , but have used it as tailing & flash quite a bit . . . * I'm always on the lookout for inexpensive , or FREE materials . . . including 'fresh roadkill' when the weather is COLD . . . 'nuff said about THAT . New sub here - - -

I picked up a multi colored Halloween wig from wally world for $6.00. On to a cheap fly box. 10mm foam from hobby loby 2x6 foot sheet for $25. Cut to fit the plano open tackle trays.

This will fit any vise with a .36 to .40 post. I have them on my Etsy store. Oh, yes, I did come up with the harvesting idea.

Great video Mike. I’m wondering about the synthetic “hair extension” material, is it waterproof like the Bonnie Craft Cord yarn? Looks like it would be a good alternative to EP a fibers. Thanks
I love this way of doing the brushes and am wondering where I can find a frother like what you are using also the hair extensions in the different colors like what you are using I love tiring flies and this gives me more materials and ideas to add to my home kit.

It's not really a substitute for mylar because it's way too thin. It's like angel hair, but even thinner than that.
I paid a dollar for that 36” hair at the 99 cent store
Went into Sportsman's Warehouse to buy some dyed guinea hen hackles they want $10.00 for like 6 hackles.
So dyeing your own is the way to go. I am all about doing whatever we can to stay out of the fly shops!! They over charge by a long shot!
That's a video subject I've been contemplating producing for quite some time now. I wanted to open a fly shop, but obviously, that didn't happen. There are some really good fly shops out there, but there are others that will do anything when it comes to making money... even if it means to squeeze out any possible competition.
Sportsmans Warehouse blows chunks. I wouldnt lose any sleep if they went out of business.

So what is the fabric? I cant find where you said the kind or where you get it

Why don't you use the rotary function of your vise?
I do use it, just not often when producing video, that way, the people who don't have a rotary vise can relate.
