Gosh hawk (are that a sparrow hawk?) are ambush predators, they rely on stealth,that one is either fooling around, (testing the flock) or is a very young and inexpert birds. Look at the difference in the falcon strategy sprinting and diving on open air push the pigeons limits

Just came across this. Great footage. I'm a falconer here in the UK. My brother raced pigeons all his life and is still pigeon mad. Nice to see both predator and prey evenly matched. This video just shows that the outcome doesn't always result in the death of a pigeon. It also shows the different flying styles of Peregrine and Goshawk. The agility of the pigeons is amazing. Good work with filming it.
On viewing for the second time is say that the second bird is a female Sparrowhawk rather than a Goshawk judging by the size comparison to the pigeons?
@@EskdaleHawks1 I agree, second bird is a female sparrowhawk. Wings are too short for a gos. It is also nice to see how the pigeons, fly differently depending on which raptor is chasing them. I have flown goshawks and sparrowhawks, both get the best out the birds they are chasing. As you say, It is about the flights, not the kills :)
Massive Thumb Up man. I never seen more exciting footage of pigeons evading the Goshawk of Peregrine. Nothing gives me more adrenalin than watching those close calls. Also , your pigeons are awesome fliers.
My father was one of the most successful pigeon racers in Pennsylvania. He never shot at the hawks or falcons that pursued our birds darn near every day during their exercise flights. His philosophy was that if the hawks could catch one he didn't want that one anyway. Used the hawks and falcons to exercise the flock. Race day was different.
That's how to train your pigeons, it's one of the most intense flights of birds i've seen. Your pigeons are so fast and they don't get tired easily. Incredible

Este si normal sa mai prinda din ei dar doar la greseli facute de porumbeii tai, pana la urma nici iei nu sunt perfecti dar cum spuneai cei puternici raman si se calesc tot mai tare cresc in forma tot mai mult si cred ca ai din ce in ce tot mai putine pierderi pe an ce trece. Schimbarile de directie facute de porumbei uliu se parea ca ramane spectator :D. Ma bucur ce ai realizat pana acum! Felicitari!!!!
@ONE TREE HILL NZ tbh i am amazed u that someone would accept their mistake this quickly so stay blessed for that... and secondly its a predator prey relationship... his birds do fly fast and escaped raptor but this is not always the case he lose 1 or 2 every now and then.... if there are no pigeons peregrine falcons would rather starve .... so its how the nature works

Your pigeon are so unbelievably fast. It seems that raptors don't have an easy time at all, chasing for them. These pigeons easily outrun raptors, it almost looks like they are joking with them. Amazing.

I was searching about pigeons on RUclips when I came across your channel. Your videos are simply awesome.To put things in perspective, pigeons have some of the best defense maneuverability of any bird in the planet. Even the fastest flying bird on earth, the peregrine falcon hardly attempts to catch pigeons since they are so difficult to catch. I learnt this from a program which was shown in the National Geographic.

I live within a concrete jungle, seen lots of raptors hunt (peregrine falcon). It's typical for them to float and observe the pack of pigeons and pick out one for their meal, survival of the fittest really.
Cool video. Pigeons are incredible, High altitude they fly in the group just they have been attacked they scatter and gather and they circle down to confuse the bird. Even one of them picked off it does such maneuvers amazes me. Good exercise for the pigeons too

Reminds me of my grandad who youst to race pigeons when I was 5 he took me up to loft at Bradley shops he said peter which pigeon do you like I said the one with the white face. found out years ago he won a big race from france to here in England and it was called White face. he got a solid silver trophy of a pigeon for it. this is my story he named the pigeon cos I said I like that pigeon with white face godbless grandad he was a good man ginger billy William fail they called him.

Thank you. This is why I started doing these videos, got tired of people saying that the falcon never leaves hungry. It is an exception when it takes a fit experienced mature racing pigeon, not a rule. Now after posting so many videos they changed their mind, sometimes I am told the falcons just play. lol. Still, they keep the pigeons locked for the cold half of the year so the falcon won't "play" with them.

Racing pigeons are not natural breeds they were bread for racing in 1950s

I've been a falconer for a long time and can attest that well conditioned racing homers very rarely get caught by raptor in fair flight.
Thank you. This is why I started doing these videos, got tired of people saying that the falcon never leaves hungry. It is an exception when it takes a fit experienced mature racing pigeon, not a rule. Now after posting so many videos they changed their mind, sometimes I am told the falcons just play. lol. Still, they keep the pigeons locked for the cold half of the year so the falcon won't "play" with them.
Even the best raptors can never take the best of the best of their prey base. This is gene pool refinement, and spectacular!
