Look like Permit! I have been fishing Tampa Bay my whole life and got on a school on light tackle about 10-15 inches bigger than those little guys last Fall. Had to facetime some other locals, thought they were Pompano! Weird to see them like that in your neck of the woods.

Can someone explain why you point the rid tip and give slack when they jump? For bass fishing, I think we normally try to keep tension/bent?

Got out there two days ago and fished live 5-7” mullet. It was great! Snook, jacks and lady fish. I don’t get to fish down here much so anything biting is a good thing. Best jack was about 20lbs. Glad I was in a pedal kayak so I could chase him down.
I'm heading down to Sebastian for a month straight of fishing. My gear can't handle half that action. So excited!

That was some nonsense. I had a dude swing in super close to the beach while I was surf fishing to see what I was hooked up on, and then drove straight over my line and broke the 5ft+ blacktip I had on off.

You should beach fish during the mullet run. Today me and my buddy caught 30+ jacks, ladyfish, and Spanish mackerel in an hour at sunrise. We were only using spoons too

I have caught a thousand Jacks and never seen one look all yellow like that. New hybrid Jack Crevalle w/ Mahi crossbreed. Rich you should teach yourself how to bridle those Mullet. You will increase your hookup % greatly with the circles. Nothing fancy needed just some rubber bands and a bait needle. The bait does better and no chance of covering your hookpoint. First run off that first Tarpon was sooooo good and when youre solo rodtip leader is good enough. Great job
That's so weird! I've been netting bait in and around St.Lucie inlet for decades and not until a couple weeks ago I also caught about 6 baby permit in a cast! I wonder if it has anything to do with the hurricane?

I would love to get my son on some of these baby tarpon, but I have no boat, and am not familiar with the FL coast. Is there anywhere someone could wade or fish from the shore to catch some of these tarpon? I would love to bring my fly rod and teach my kid to fly cast so fishing from crowded piers would not be ideal. If anyone has any ideas maybe I can trade some of my Wisconsin fishing knowledge for some of your Florida knowledge? Thanks in advance!! Oh, we live just west of Orlando, and don't mind driving a few hours if need be.
