  • What a Dangerous Low Head Dam looks like from Upstream from the Low Vantage Point of a Kayak. Upstream and Downstream Views of the the same low head dam at 4600 South on the Jordan River, Murray, Utah. Luckily Salt Lake County is currently actively working to remove this hazard (the Brighton North Point Canal Diversion Dam). In 2021 they acquired the water rights of the Brighton North Point Canal that this low head dam diverts water into. In 2021, they got a 1.5 million dollar appropriation from the Utah State Legislature to remove and replace it. They are planning on replacing it with a step down set of small man made rapids, similar to the ones at Winchester Park at about 6400 South: • Jordan River, Utah Pad... That will allow intermediate paddlers to safely paddle down it. They also plan to put in a portage around those, that will allow novice paddlers the option to portage around them. Thank you Salt Lake County!!!
