Holding People Accountable is an Act of Caring

A lot of leaders struggle with holding people accountable. Unfortunately, too many people associate accountability in a negative way because sometimes it includes pointing out flaws or uncovering weaknesses that are preventing someone from accomplishing something.
Instead, approach accountability as an act of caring. When you care about people, your approach to holding them accountable changes in a way that helps them. The weakness that has been uncovered can be focused on and strengthened. The flaw in someone's work is an opportunity to learn and improve.
Holding people accountable is not about focusing on where they might be falling short. It is about identifying and strengthening any shortcomings so that they perform at their highest level and avoid failure.
