  • Creativity is one of the most valuable things to me as a human, and for the last 5 years, I've given my it away to others. I have burdened my creativity with the task of earning me money. I pushed it until I descended into anxiety and resentment and I stopped creating altogether. This video follows my journey to reclaim my creativity.
    "I am going to spend as much time as I can creating delightful things out of my existence, because that's what brings me awake and that's what brings me alive" - Elizabeth Gilbert in Big Magic

    This was shown in my recommended page. I totally relate to you Karam. I come from Egypt and I killed my creative side and devoted my soul to a conventional "safe" career as a dentist. I do find my job interesting yet the creative side of me is leaving me with constant yearning everyday. I started to learn German and I never know if I will have the courage one day to live authentically in a world ran by money. You are very courageous.

      Thank you for sharing your story and experience! It’s very relatable to me since I also was raised in Syria, I had to fight against a culture that suppressed my creativity to get to where I am now

    This vid just touched my heart! I know it was hard for you to step out from the comfort zone which was no more comfortable. I am 35yo. After divorce and second in my life immigration, I study MBA and work as a barista in Berlin. I started from the scratch again. It was psychologically hard so I am going through therapy as well. I moved to Europe to become a barista too:D The more, the better! Thank you very much for sharing, it gives me motivation and hope, I am not alone in this

      So beautiful, thank you for sharing your experience!! Good to know that I’m also not alone ;) honestly it’s part of the reason why I stayed in Berlin. It’s such a great city for having this ‘alternative’ lifestyle that’s very conducive to my creativity 💛

    This was awesome dude! So nice to see you experimenting with this format and pushing yourself to make new things. I really liked the video and especially for people who might want to be creators, but realize that in itself it can be a burden, when it becomes a job. I love how you're fuelling your creativity by doing something not related to it. This was you free up your time and energy to do more of the things you love. So good! Fantastic message

      Thanks Chris! It’s very freeing knowing that my creativity comes first. There’s a lot of freedom in that! I’ve made the choice to pursue this path and that is very comforting no matter how uncomfortable it is

    Damn, this video hit the spot. As someone who just moved across the world to Germany to get in touch with myself, creativity has been calling. Yet it's a hard push to even start the output and channel that urge and feeling into what we love and want to be creating. I also become a bartender and held some guilt/shame about not 'doing something proper' with my time but if it pays the bills and allows for time and space to channel that creativity then it works. Thank you for the inspiration - love your work. ❤

    • @Karamintheworld
      @Karamintheworld  7 месяцев назад

      The whole guilt comment is real, I definitely share that too... but I read this thing in Big Magic and it goes like this: "There is a profound sense of honor to be found in looking after yourself, and that honor will resonate powerfully in your work; it will make your work stronger."
      Thank you for your comment and for being here :)

    It's good... It's absolutely good. Let me share some things that're going in my life currently... I don't have words to express but, let's try, I've killed my creative side and did nothing except "Just trying to study those freaking subjects..." and as a result, I don't have memories, of anything... It's just broken things.
    It's like, I'm just born and my mind is just empty... no thoughts, no regrets, just broken things. I know you can't understand this properly but it happens and now! I'm here, watching this video that reminds me to do something... something that I love. I'm starting all of the things from the beginning... from this moment, documenting my life on white blank paper, my thoughts, transcriptions of videos that meant to me, like this one. "I wanted to tell you something... Internet or even social-media is a beautiful place, you can't tell anyone that, this is not what I am, you can't tell that social-media friends or peoples are not real. It's all about feelings... I'm just obsessed with this guy and did you know what, this is the one who talks to me on the entire social-media, on the entire internet... We're just humans, we made mistakes." Karam... is a real person I think, on social-media.
    "Hey Karam, maintain the quality of your videos and I'm here for you always..."

I know because I am an entrepreneur that not always has clients, the stress is real and sometimes I wished as well to get a job to get it easier! And then again hits me, I can't do that. Whenever I somehow feel this stress building up, I decompress and do something else. Then all of a sudden things are rolling again! Thank you for your perspective!!! In the same boat, I graduated in 2020 with a Theatre Arts degree. I was already concerned about that degree since I did study theatre but my whole time as a student I worked harder to make visuals to market theatre and those artists. In the US of course, there’s not a super high demand for theatre or theatre marketing. 2020, pandemic, there was no live performance. I am also an illustrator and work in 3D arts and thought I could maybe fall back on that, multidisciplinary is what I’m most proud of being anyways. But it left me lost. This push to monetize off my creativity. I was lucky to get work in film as a set dresser and locations scout for Netflix, HBO, Apple. Big companies. I moved to TX and worked and worked as a freelancer in film for 3 years. It drained me and my creativity felt lost and futile. It was attached to everyone else’s demands and my complete livelihood since where I live is so expensive. I work as a server now! It’s helping open up time. It’s enough money to help me get by. I’m still trying to reconnect to my creativity. Also reading Rick Rubin (also work at a bookstore twice a week and it was highly recommended). Don’t know what my future holds, but I’m trying to change this creative depression I’ve been in as well. Best of luck to you, your creative heartbeat, and your broad experience as a human in this life!
