    It’s very refreshing to watch a tutorial that is properly educational without talking down to the audience. Excellent work.

    Thanks so much for this! There are hardly any tutorials I can find on having the elektron boxes talk to each other. All your tutorials are great!

    I was having trouble getting my RYTM and Octatrack playing nicely together with pattern changes until I saw this very straight forward tutorial. Great Job!

      Elektron could be more helpful over this IMO. It's not difficult but their documentation isn't that clear. It's always a bad idea for the design engineers to write the manual!

    Wow! I had no idea that I could have the Octatrack and Analog Four synced up on the same pattern. This changes everything and is going to make programming so much easier. Thanks!

    Very helpful video. The series as a whole is great. Also, that second pattern on this video is pretty cool reminds me of U-ziq's music.

    Any idea what the 'chattering' on the left channel of the (camera?) microphone is? It starts at 4:44, when you show the A4 screen. Sounds almost like the mic is picking up the sound of a HDD head seeking in some PC.
    Oh, and thanks for the nice video :-)

    thanks mate great work really appreciate it...very helpful I know getting them all to sync up with external hardware has been a real hassle. I've just gone down the innerclock systems sync-gen pro to try to get it all linked up with the PC and the Octatrack & A4 plus external hardware...just waiting to try it when it arrives

      I certainly think Elektron could make this kind of stuff simpler for people! There are too many separate settings you have to get right before it'll condescend to work. I guess it's a trade-off between flexibility and simplicity.

    Great video mate, very educational. I have just got all 3 Eelektron machines (Octatrack, RYTM + Analogue 4) do you have any idea how I would sync all 3 using midi cables or do you think I should get a midi sync box? Cheer man.

    • @SeenfromSpace
      @SeenfromSpace  8 лет назад +2

      No. Buy 2 of the shortest MIDI cables you can get and chain them. Out from box 1 which would provide the master clock and transport. Into In of box 2. Then Thru of box 2 to In of box 3. Set boxes 2 and 3 to external clock and transport and you're done.

      Elektron don't explain it well themselves. Without help from the nice guys at Elektronauts, I couldn't have done it either.

    very helpful.. i was wondering the proper way to set these 2 up. I'm guessing that the midi thru on the A4 can pass the same program change info out to a 3rd machine in the midi change like the RYTM

    • @SeenfromSpace
      @SeenfromSpace  10 лет назад

      It should, yes! I've only got 2 Elektron boxes so can't say how simple it is for something like the RYTM!

    My analog four doesn’t change pattern in play mode. I need to stop and replay for changing. Anybody knows what’s the trouble?

  • @Marco-ei2ny

    thanks man, great video, i did as said all good but the only problemi get is that eventually when i start manipulating a sample on the octa, like a new one,, the pitch in the a4 changes and i tend to lose the magic,, dont know why this happens

    • @SeenfromSpace
      @SeenfromSpace  5 лет назад +1

      Does it affect OSC1 in the A4? I think there’s a bug in the OT that when you use the scene fader in certain conditions, the pitch of OSC1 goes down by about 2 or 3 octaves. Try disabling the MIDI transmit for data you’re not using, llike program change. I think that fixes it. You can reload the kit on the A4 to get your sound back, as long as you’ve saved it already, obviously. Good idea to save the kit often as you work.

    nice vid, but i have a problem with the pattern change. it seems like the octa get stuck a1>a2 in this position like an infinite loop.

    • @SeenfromSpace
      @SeenfromSpace  9 лет назад +1

      PRESENTE Do you mean it never gets as far as switching to a2? I've had this on some patterns with longer loops. It must be a bug but whether it's fixed in any OS updates I don't know.

    • @tyrannosaurushanolin
      @tyrannosaurushanolin 9 лет назад

      Seen From Space yeah it change pattern only if i press PLAY/STOP like in the beginning of this video

    • @SeenfromSpace
      @SeenfromSpace  9 лет назад

      PRESENTE Yes that's how it behaves for me. Are your tracks quite long e.g. using all 4 pages of track length? Mostly it doesn't do it. Can you make it work properly on a different pair of patterns, or a different project?

    • @tyrannosaurushanolin
      @tyrannosaurushanolin 9 лет назад +2

      Seen From Space ok i got it. the master pattern length of the octatrack need to be set at 64 (mine was set at "infinite" don't know why) otherwise it won't change. works perfectly even if all my tracks are 4 pages length.

    Question: I have my Elektron Analog 4 MKII connected from MIDI OUT to Elektron Octatrack MKII MIDI THRU port. I can hear the Analog 4 through my Octatrack but cannot control it from the Octatrack directly. How would I fix this issue so I can use the Octatrack as the central controller? This is my current setup ruclips.net/video/mE-B4eUcLh0/видео.html

    • @SeenfromSpace
      @SeenfromSpace  6 лет назад

      For the Octatrack to be the 'master', connect the MIDI *OUT* on the Octatrack to the IN on the 'slave' machine i.e. the A4. If you want to add to the rig, you can connect the THRU on the A4 to the IN on another instrument or effects box. It was a big decision taken in about 1980 to make the MIDI standard a 'daisy chain' rather than a hub/satellite model, like ethernet or USB. For rigs that combine lots of boxes, it can get a bit bewildering!
      To summarise:
      (Master controller OUT) > (Slave 1 IN. THRU) > (Slave 2 IN. THRU) > etc...
      Although on _some_ devices the THRU can also be a secondary OUT. Check the manual. Or you can buy a THRU box that can act as a sort of hub.

      Hi Sam. New tutorial uploading as I type. It's on Berlin School sound design, and if you need some basic tips on the synth engine, it may be useful to you.

  • @danieldemayo6209

    Wait? When you switched back wasn't the a4 still running the second pattern? Anyway....Could you also have both of them running with their own song modes enabled? Just send midi clock? I was hoping I could do this that way I could run an a4 with the grid at X2 speed or do other weird things. Also instead of having to make all the patterns line up. What if I want pattern a1 on the octa but a2 on the a4 at the same time. Wouldn't them running independent song modes be more flexible? I guess if your writing on both at the same time then the way you demonstrated would be easier....I'm confused! Haha

    • @SeenfromSpace
      @SeenfromSpace  7 лет назад +1

      I guess it would work with both in song mode? Clock and transport settings would take care of it. You can always manually change pattern A01 to A02 while A01 is playing on the OT. There's no doubt several ways you can get these things to work together, but after making this tut I went back to having one pattern per project! I know that sounds stupidly basic, but I'm using the OT more as a remix machine than an on-the-fly sampler, and the A4 provides sequenced arpeggios, bass lines etc. That's the beauty of Elektron: I don't think any two people use the machines in quite the same way! They're so flexible.

      Seen From Space tis true. I was just scared for a second that you couldn't do it that way haha il just have to play around when I get my octa this week. Thanks! Oh and really like the vids btw. Some of the best.
