Gigi Grnd but catriona didn’t pay for it. it is called sponsorship. Mak Tumang ( designer) just said the cost of the gown but didn’t say Catriona paid for it. Contestants from the PH usually have sponsors for their gowns, designers let them “borrow” the gown to wear in the competition. If they win, the gowns were usually put on a display inside the malls or museums. That’s how BIG pageantry is in the Philippines.
The only time when no crimes occur in the Philippines is during Miss Universe coronation and Manny Pacquiao’s fight. Because even criminals watch Miss U pageant.
This is by the way true. One time, I had to do volunteer work in a city jail here in PH. I remember watching Ms Universe with some inmates through a small TV screen. That time, everyone ended up so disappointed that Miss USA won over Janine Tugonon.
Here in Philippines when it comes to Pageantry specifically when it comes Miss U it is really a big deal for most Filipinos, like most of Salons were closed ,students are willing to absent just to be able to watch (honestly I am one of them) there are also many public viewings. It’s like a Pacquiao fight everyone is on their TVs
As someone who is currently living in the Philippines and is half-Filipino, I can definitely agree that beauty pageants are a BIG deal here. I honestly just feel that Asian countries in general love beauty pageants because they love to see the combination of beautiful girls with beautiful and intelligent minds ❤️...as you said Siera it really just has to do with country preferences and if a country is willing to invest in a significant amount of time and money towards a specifc cause/event (for ex: whether that be beauty pageants or the Olympics) When I was a little girl, my Filipino Dad always wanted me to join a pageant..and now being here in the Philippines ppl have advised me to join one as well. Now don't get me wrong, I love watching beauty pageants..Pia and Cat are some of my idols and I have friends who have won some beauty pagents, but I just don't see it for myself. There's a lot of pressure that goes in to beauty pageants here, and you definitely need to fit a specific "beauty standand".. I'm always told if I lost weight I could be a beauty queen blah blah blah..but I know my worth and I love the skin that I'm in 🤗💪🏼 Thank you, Siera for always keeping it real with the beauty pageant world. Love seeing your videos ❤️ And keep spreading your body positivity message 🥰 I have definitely been binge watching your RUclips videos..and they are giving me a lot of encouragement and enjoyment during these uncertain quarantine times 🤗 Take care, always & God Bless 😊💜
which is a good example that a past trend does not really guarantee a placement in the future. In 2018 Colombia did not even make top 20. Simply put a lot of other countries outperformed Colombia that year, so she was not well prepared for a MU competition. At the end of the day, MU comes down to preparation. The right girl wins, the one who can show all the stuff they look for. And for that and like everything else preparation does make a difference. Well explained, Siera.
I'm from the Philippines. It is considered a pride of the country to have someone win an interntional event, be it beauyy pageant, sports, singing contests ... or even place as a runner-up. But honestly, if someone doesnt even place in an international beauty event, they are easily forgotten locally. I can name all Miss Universe runner-ups from the Philippines from 2010 onwards, but prior to that I could not name Philippine representatives who never even placed in the top 20.
Well, between Margarita Moran's Miss Universe 1973 title and Maria Venus Raj started the Philippines resurgence in Miss Universe with her fourth runner-up finish in Miss Universe 2010 for example, a total of seven Filipinas made at least the first cut of semifinalists in Miss Universe: 1974 - Guadalupe Sanchez Top 12 1975 - Chiqui Brosas - 4th RUP 1980 - Chat Silayan - 3rd RUP 1984 - Desiree Verdadero - 4th RUP 1987 - Geraldine Asis - Top 10 1994 - Charlene Gonzales - Top 6 1999 - Miriam Quiambao - 1st RUP
The Philippines really loves you...you are one of my favorite candidate when Miss Universe held in the Philippines. You will always be our favorite Miss Canada.
You are very popular in the Philippines. Whenever people talk about Miss Universe 2016, We only have 5 girls to always talk about. 1. France winning the crown 2. Pia passing the crown 3. Maxine making it to the top 6. 4. How articulated Kenya is and 5. Miss Canada is a drought breaker. A true image of confidenty beautiful and I must say I can still remember how I felt seeing you for the first time in swimsuit. I was like, "Work it girl!!!!!" And it made me feel so sad because I was cheering for you when the last girl is to be called for top 6. I can see you are looking at the other girls from side to side. You were even on the screen when 2nd runner-up was to be announced and everyone saw your other evening gown and I was like, she might have executed her walk properly if she have worn that other gown.
Hi Sierra, with your knowledge and experience in Pageantry, could actually be a National Director in your country. Your country need to boost your pageantry. They need someone like you.
It's a battle of Personality, Brain, and Charm... It's not about the Physical beauty anymore.. It's not unfair.. It's how you prepare your representative to Miss Universe. It's like preparing to an Olympic. We support our candidates because they derseve to be supported. Preparing for pageant isn't just a joke. It's like preparing to an Olympic..
Be Ognare exactly, 100% agree, if you want to win, go hard prepare, stop complaining because all we know who’s the best.. I’m from Indonesia, we keep tryin to upgrade our delegates and send the best one.. this is not a joke, take it seriously, step up our game..
@Une belle matinée d'été ! A part of a beauty pageant is still beauty. But you can tell that Miss Universe evolved, not your typical beauty pageant. The girls are interviewed 5 times, like for real. No other beauty pageant does that. What this thread is saying is that it's not just about physical beauty but the inner beauty matters too. To be confidently beautiful with a heart.
You can't compare pageants to sports. The outcome of a pageant is determined solely by the opinions of a panel of judges and organizers. Whoever the judges like wins. The outcome of sports are determined by rules and performances. If its a race and you cross the finish line first you win, an error might cost you the medal even if you are among the best based on previous performances. In a match if your team has the most points in the end your team wins, its clear cut. In pageants a girl can trip on stage, not give a good answer or may have her answer ruined by translation and still win because it ultimately depends on who the judges like based on their preferences and biases. Other countries train their girls well too, some girls don't even need much training but they are likely to be overlooked because they might come from a country that isn't popular or enthusiastic.
@@mikmowmil To be honest with you. That's what countries that aren't doing well in beauty pageants say. I completely disagree with you, pageants can be compared to sports. She was talking about the trainings not the whole competition itself. The candidates train with their heart and soul just like being an athlete in any sport. Don't be so critical about it.
seeing smaller countries excel in Miss Universe makes me happy and when most people say that they aren't deserving is just wrong i bet girls from smaller nations work just as hard as the other contestants representing powerhouse nations :))
Another factor is those major countries have their training camps. During 90's the Philippine representatives are sending the contestant to Venezuela to train before the competition. Now the Philippines have different training camp like Aces and queen and KF camp, different countries around the are now sending their representatives to train in the Philippines as they knew the reputation of the Filipina delegates in beauty pageantry.
thats the reason Miss World have suprising placments and most deserving gets the crown . personally I find MISS WORLD better than MISS UNIVERSE . Thats why In INDIA and NEPAL send their winners for MISS WORLD rather than sending them to MISS UNIVERSE .
By History, Its started when Philippines was colonised by Spain where there’s Reyna Elena, Santacruzan or Flores Da Mayo. I should know because our gay prof ask our class to do research about this back in college.
the rich people in Philippines back then, thought sending their daughters to pageants is something that is degrading too. it changed over time as pop culture and Showbusiness became more imminent here, reshaping the social perspective.
I'm proud to say that new generation Filipina beauty queens are being molded to be like a goodwill ambassadress not just a beauty, body & brains but also passion and sincerity to be a positive example to others.
I totally agree with you, when you say that in some countries, people do not know anything about pageants (and that's ok)... I am from Venezuela, and in 2008, when I was still at the university, I was part of an interchange student program, so we had some students from USA with us... As you know pageants in Venezuela are a big deal, so we invited these guys to watch that year's show, all together... We were very suprised to know that they had no idea about Miss Universe (They were from some very small towns, so maybe that was the reason why they did not know anything about it). Surprisingly, that year, Dayana Mendoza from Venezuela, won the tittle, and it was so cool, since even if they did not know anything about the pageant, they had a great time with us watching the show, and they even felt part of the triumph, since they were in Venezuela. It was such a great night
Love all your videos, I am from Puerto Rico and I can confirm that pageantry is part of our culture. We see Pageant Queens admirable woman with a powerful message that want to see a change in the World with their actions. Loved to see you one day being a judge in Miss Universe Puerto Rico 💕
With South Africa, pageantry is not that huge. We did get a new director a few years ago. His name is Werner Wessels and from the interviews he has done you can hear that he did a lot of research before sending each girl off to either miss universe or miss world. It has paid off at Miss Universe with Demi winning in 2017, Tamaryn 1st runner up in 2018 and of course with our current queen Zozi. I think they have found a formula to effectively highlighting each woman's strong points and how those will help in their time if they were to win. I think South Africa also encourages an outspoken voice and with the way Miss Universe has chosen these past few years, we can see they appreciate it.
True homeboy, although the pageantry base is starting to grow from the part 3 years, because of Demi, Tamaryn and Zozi’s performance and results. They made South Africa 🇿🇦 popular on pageantry world and of course all is due to thorough training and the great coach Werner.
Zenande Sithole not everyone knows. I also don’t who is teen Miss SA is but I consider myself a pageant fan. I don’t have to know everything to qualify for that role. Even in other sports as well I know English football but I don’t know much about South African PSL but still am a soccer. I hope you get the point
I am from Colombia and pageantry is a HUGE deal here, the representative is under a lot of pressure for the preparation and people’s expectations. Miss Colombia also invest a lot of money in this pageant thing to be able to represent our country in the best way possible.
@@letsgobrandon488We the Filipino supporters are so hype, passionate and crazy when our very own people, are representing our country to compete until the very end😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣 And it helps a lot cuz it booze the confidence of our representatives.😆😆😂😂😂
Because in PH 🇵🇭 I think pageant is part of our culture and representatives are trained well before they compete just like in Venezuela, Colombia, Thailand etc
So coming from 🇮🇳 India, the sole focus of parents and people is STUDIES, and other than this in sports, CRICKET is a veryyy big deal and tbh still a certain section isn't very proud of pageantry. So growing up I didn't see many people interested in pageants than STUDIES, CRICKET here
That's sounds cool rather than watching pageant. I hope Philippines will learn the same and stop being pageant super fanatic because this is also a business and Filipinos are being used for rating only. That's so sad.
Here in the phils, yeah they take pageantry seriously,,, hope we could meet you when you go back here,,, regards to your brother,, his face is so admirable
🇵🇭 Beauty Pageant is part of Culture in Philippines & i think we have it already in early 1900's. Young girls start on stage like simple competition, fron the smallest political unit to national . Thanks Siera
Reuter Magbanua Very true. Also, it actually goes even way back to our history. During the Flores de Mayo festival there is a pageant that is religious in nature-Santacruzan, where town maidens are selected and they compete for the title of and who’s going to be the Reyna Elena. This festival is very alive until today. 😅
It was brought here by the Americans. The first ever recorded pageant in the Philippines is Manila Carnival Queen in 1908 if im not mistaken. The rest is history.
This is my personal opinion in regards to Phillipines contestants. I can honestly say that Filipinos completely support their queens and it's a beautiful thing to see. Also, the team that prepares these beautiful women invest a lot of time and it shows. This decade Phillipines has really stepped up their game and its paying off.
Even until now Philippine Televisions showcases these little young girls just like National Beauty Pageant with Production , Costume , Gowns , Talent and Q&A . Every fiesta & others, anywhere in the Philippines theirs always a beauty pageant as highlight. These considered for young girls and women as avenue for National to International Beauty Competition ( Personality , Talent & Brain ) No wonder whoever represent the Philippines always make it to the top or have the crown 🇵🇭❤️
On the flip side, a Filipina being cut from the semifinal has some explaining to do to the rest of the 1,700 islands. There is that massive expectation since we started placing again. In the 90's-- cough, cough (dating myself)-- the talk was just to send a picture of our contestant because they used to come back with the photogenic award only.
Hi Siera! First of all, many thanks that you responded to my recent comment! Partly I can understand your point, and I take your opinion very seriously, since you have lot of personal experience on the matter, no doubt about it. And it makes now more sense why the same countries place again and again hi. Still, as an occasional spectator of different pageants since many many years, I find it boring, less exciting because of this fact. Also, I think, it has become a vicious circle: if most of the contestants of the smallest countries rarely finish high in the contest, then the interest for the pageantry diminishes even more in these countries, and they prepare their candidates more poorly than before. Honestly, I like pageantry, but I loose every year my interest, it is for me now kind of predictable. What a long comment have I know written! Sorry! All my warm greetings to both of you, that you tried to explain the situation!
Hi Sierra Can you do a vlog about the “Different Walks or Pasarela Walks” of Miss Universe PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭 every year for the past 10years.. Starting in 2010.. And tackle it why is it called.. thank you.🙏 💕❤️
For all people who says that we just love pageantry, and we invest lot of money for it that is why it became famous to us, well not just beauty pageant, even boxing, olympics, sports, singing, dancing and other talent competition. We always supporting our "kababayan" because we Filipinos, like catriona said "we always stand as one".
Marco Barlongo true.. even our country’s all-time favorite tourist spots.. and paradise-like beaches.. we parade them.. anything actually.. for as long as there is filipino-related in something.. filipinos passionately unite to showcase it..
Yeah definitely true, we prepared so hard, but some other time our preparation wasnt good enough. Love you Sierra...💕💕💕💕 I hope we can bounce back these upcoming MU2020🤞🤞🤞🤞🙏🙏🙏🙏
Unfair for those countries who dont place? Heres my thoughts. A Girl who spent months for training. And A Girl who just woke up got dress and went staight to the Pageant. Who do you think deserve a placement??.. you can only reap what you sow,. If you want your bet to place send her with a weapon (proper training, confidence and good presence of mind) Thanks sierra! Love from PH.
It's a nice change that your bro joined the conversation. It's a blast of fresh air. Thanks for this content! Keep doing more please, and more collab with your bro. :)
On point. Make more commentary video with your brother Leighton! Should you visit Philippines, please make prior announcement so we can meet you as well. I am from Cebu and I need to buy a ticket to fly to Manila. I am a fan Sierra. See you soon! ❤️❤️❤️
And yeah me being from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 our island love MISS UNIVERSE and every year we are so proud of the candidate we send even tho seh does not enter, I mean this passed decade we only entered the top 5 times 2010: Mariana Vicente top:10, 2011: Viviana Ortiz top:16 2013: Monic Perez top: 16 and the our country did not place until 2018 with Kiara Ortega and then Madison Anderson
Filipinos are big fans of pageantry and it is our great pride to show how beautiful our country to the intertnational platforms through a representation of a single filipina binibini. That's why we really support our candidates being flew to the pageant contest. And also people around the globe must participate in this kind of event because it is a celeration of a woman feminity and tell us how beautiful they are inside and out that could open our eyes of how much they should be respected and loved in the society.
I totally agree with what you guys are saying! As a Filipino Canadian, my family always watched Miss Universe every year. I’m a TOTAL FAN of pageants; however, I always rolled my eyes when I heard Miss Philippines contestants say that being Miss Philippines/Universe has always been their dream. I thought, “Really? That’s what you wanted to be when you grow up? Not a doctor or scientist or something useful?” But perhaps that’s just my Western upbringing talking. In the Philippines, pageants are a HUGE deal and it‘s very cultural. I think it‘s because when they win in the international stage, it‘s putting Philippines in the limelight. Plus, Filipinos love festivals, drama and colours, and pageants are exactly that: dramatic festival of colours! 😁
I wish Singapore 🇸🇬will get in the semi finalist for the 3th time! They got in 1983 and 1987 Katie Lee 1983 in the top 12 & Marion Nicole Teo 1987 in the top 10
The Philippines had a placement drought before Venus Raj in 2010; in spite of our country being big on pageants. I think one major factor is that after sending a memorable candidate, eyes may then focus on that country's next representative; Like what happened with Thailand after 2018.
Great to watch your vlog again Sierra .Beauty pageants in my opinion needs a lot of pageant supporters and big investments to run the show..It's costing money plus time, effort, training, planning and travelling is a huge factor .That's all for now .
In our country, the Philippines, we consider beauty pageants as OLYMPIC GAMES. It's FIESTA! Everytime our queens win, they come home treated as HEROES for bringing pride and honor... It's part of our culture. We have pageants for everyone; Male, female, LGBTQ+ and everywhere, from street pageants to TV shows to national levels. Name it, we have it! In the Philippines, beauty queens are TIMELESS. They will be remembered forever. Once a beauty queen always a beauty queen...
It is must have extra effort to keep place in Miss Universe. Indonesia 2019 the effort, traning, support so crazy. And the results first time in top 10.
It also has a lot to do with politics, favoritism, appeasing fanbases, the organization and the type of judges. Girls from some countries don't have to try to get noticed, the organization and judges look out for them. Think India in the 90s, Venezuela since the 80s and Philippines in 2010s and USA forever.
I totally agree. The countries that consistently make the finals had more preparation compared to other countries that struggle to get into the finals. BTW, Colombia did not make it to semis in 2018.
Culture really does play a huge part in areas of competency of people. We consider pageantry as a celebration of womanhood. Thus the strong community support for our beauty queens here in the Philippines, India and Thailand. I guess the same could be said for most Latin American countries.
When you win as miss universe PH you are a queen when miss universe PH wins Miss Universe homecoming will be a festival. When Miss universe will air it's like the NBA finals for all sisters here in the Philippines.
I agree....Here in Colombia it's a party. People look forward to seeing the finals in November in Cartagena. The media move to that city to follow the event...And even many people travel to that Caribbean city to support their Queen....
oscar javier delgado igual en Mexico, ustedes también tiene certámenes en los pueblos? Es algo muy común en Mexico me da curiosidad si así es en otros países latinos
Before Venus Raj entered top 5 in 2010, people are always talking about Miriam Quiambao for almost winning the Miss Universe 1999. Imagine she's under the spotlight for 11 years.
Hey there! I’m surprised I am starting to follow your vlogs now. I’m a fan of pageants but I guess what makes me love watching your commentaries is that you never hold back your thoughts. You are so straight forward that you are not afraid to tell people what you think. Just like how you said you were disappointed on Natalie’s opinion about you when you joined MU in 2016. Well I guess Canadian women are straight forward by nature cos I read Natalie’s write up about you and she was also giving a straight forward insights. I think.
i’m half Filipino and Canadian, and I always support of course the Philippines and Canada because that’s just normal for me, it’s my patriotism and love for both countries. And I was sooo sooo upset that our 3 year placing streak at the semi finals ended last year! You, Lauren, and Marta truly are the best Miss Canada’s we’ve had in a very long time! I really hope Canada wins Miss Universe soon, that would be so interesting to see pageantry boost up and become popular in Canada again after Natalie... 🇨🇦
Exactly! Countries such as Colombia and Venezuela have a tradition from over 80 years in pageantry. It’s a celebration that everyone in those countries look forward to every year! So the young girls who want to compete are being prepared from a young age to at least compete in their location, then on a national level and last at an international pageant. So after at least 3 years of preparation the girl is well prepared and ready to rock at Miss Universe. That’s why Colombia or Venezuela place every year cause they are well prepared for years and it’s their dream. In countries like Denmark or Germany the pageant tradition doesn’t exist and the girl is elected one month before the international pageant. Something that is a disadvantage when they compete against a profesional pageant girl from for example Colombia or Venezuela.
Fadalerab Rasool so why even have a pageant/contest??? So you’re simply saying there shouldn’t be a competition with no judges and just have the new winner picked out just because they haven’t placed before? It’s like saying...for example in football or soccer-we want to see a change and let’s just pick a team to win this year that hasn’t placed before regardless of the hours of practice that’s been put in...let’s not let the best of the best win this year because they keep winning. That wouldn’t be fair for any one. Your opinion is as good as any on here but I personally think it would be unfair for any country to “allow” “other” countries to place just because they’ve never placed before. This would create trouble between any country because they would think “why not our country?”. Think about it.
@@K2Torazo well I get where youre going with but what im saying is not to bash those who often gets placed. im saying that in my opinion I hope for a change that there other countries who equally deserves placements too. Even if theyre underated i saw a potential in them of what they can bring to miss universe that is often over looked bcuz we are always focusing on the popular ones, I really hope for them to recive the same type of training as the powerhouses recieve so that way they can get placements in the top 20 too and so that its not always repetitive with the same countries always placing every year
Hello Sierra and Leighton! Just dropping by to say, I love your sister-brother tandem on this aspect! I love the thought that you both share the same thoughts in terms of your pageant interests.. love you both! Take care and stay safe you guys and the fam!♥️😘
Colombia didn’t place in 2018 and we know why. She said those comments about transgender people, plus she didn’t come well prepared either. But in 2019 Colombia went back to top 5
Actually Colombia in 2018 had 2 Miss Colombia. She was referring to Gaby because she was Miss Colombia 2018 not 2019. So Sierra was correct on what she said
as an australian, no one cares at all about miss universe here and we find it strange how people can live for it. all we know is jen hawkins who won in 2004. it's not a big deal at all
There are beautiful woemn all around the world, of course, but in pageants the situation comes down to preparation and drive. Some countries used to place quite often decades ago (Sweden, Finland, Germany, Israel) but over there pageantry's strength has dwindled. In the Philippines, Colombia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico or Brazil not placing could be a great upset while in other countries they do not even know or care when or where a Miss Universe is going to be held. You brought up sports and it is quite the same: there are sports that draw millions in some countries while in others that sport is largely ignored (say, cricket). I remember once I saw a Miss Chile and a Miss Spain being interviewed and I found them gorgeous but they made it clear that winning MU was not their dream and they did not even care whether they place or not and I was surprised then but I learned that not every girl feels the pressure of their country and they take the experience lightly. In the Philippines theousands of people gathered in front of the TV, in Latin America there is faithful group of followers (though pageantry is not that important anymore in the media) but there are countries whose franchise seems to be not profitable and no one takes care of sending a candidate to the big pageant arena
Canada is on a par with Australia when it comes to this. Locals have barely heard of Miss Universe and the pageant system is all very low-key compared to the frenzied nations. Yet both countries perform reasonably well year after year which shows you don't have to be obsessed to be among the top.
Thank you for this video, much appreciated. I am South African but I really feel they should give other different countries a chance to win and to be in the top 5 because the contestants desire to win Miss Universe as a life changing moment regardless of the support or investments from their country!! ♥️💎👑
Spot on. Those countries also invest alot money in their local pageants for training, speech mannerisms, wardrobe all of that.
Big BIG YES :)
True
Taieke Haughton in the Philippines like Catriona all those efforts from her team were all free
Jelson Esnardo but Catriona invested in her gowns and costume. Her designer said her final gown costs under a million
In the Philippines aside from national pageants, we also have pageants at Schools, Streets, Barangays, Cities, Provinces, and even at noon time shows.
That’s common for these countries
Same in Guatemala
@@alejandrogames9215 because it is embedded in our hispanic culture. 😊

which is a good example that a past trend does not really guarantee a placement in the future. In 2018 Colombia did not even make top 20. I'm from the Philippines. It is considered a pride of the country to have someone win an interntional event, be it beauyy pageant, sports, singing contests ... or even place as a runner-up. Well, between Margarita Moran's Miss Universe 1973 title and Maria Venus Raj started the Philippines resurgence in Miss Universe with her fourth runner-up finish in Miss Universe 2010 for example, a total of seven Filipinas made at least the first cut of semifinalists in Miss Universe:
1974 - Guadalupe Sanchez Top 12
1975 - Chiqui Brosas - 4th RUP
1980 - Chat Silayan - 3rd RUP

The Philippines really loves you...you are one of my favorite candidate when Miss Universe held in the Philippines. You will always be our favorite Miss Canada.
You are very popular in the Philippines.
Whenever people talk about Miss Universe 2016, We only have 5 girls to always talk about.
1. France winning the crown
2. Pia passing the crown
3. Maxine making it to the top 6.
4. How articulated Kenya is
and
5. Miss Canada is a drought breaker. A true image of confidenty beautiful and I must say I can still remember how I felt seeing you for the first time in swimsuit. I was like, "Work it girl!!!!!"
And it made me feel so sad because I was cheering for you when the last girl is to be called for top 6. I can see you are looking at the other girls from side to side. I love when smaller countries excell at Universe. Angola was a refreshing change.
True, even south africa was underrated before but now, starting 2017 they are now emerging as the african beauty powerhouse
Hi Sierra, with your knowledge and experience in Pageantry, could actually be a National Director in your country. Your country need to boost your pageantry. They need someone like you.
Agreeeeee!!! OMG
You’re right
i go agree
Strongly agree.
Agreee with that.💟💟💟
It's a battle of Personality, Brain, and Charm...
Politics / monkey business left miss universe
Comment: "UNFAIR TO SMALL COUNTRIES"
Philippines: *SHAKING*
Haha
Lol
We're larger than UK
@@michaeljeromenierras1994 ni-literal mo naman 😅
We're not a small country. Both Literally and Pageant wise.
Actually were larger than 1/3 of Europe so were not small.
seeing smaller countries excel in Miss Universe makes me happy and when most people say that they aren't deserving is just wrong i bet girls from smaller nations work just as hard as the other contestants representing powerhouse nations :))
True. I always find smaller countries representatives are beautiful and kind hearted..
The Philippines history with Pageants is traced way back since 1908. And it's not just a "female" exploitation but a representation of the provinces.
Yeah agree 100%, because we earned our reputation and they saw, it paid off👏👏👏👏..I do hope MU2020 will be good to us Filipinos💕💕💕💕🇵🇭

thats the reason Miss World have suprising placments and most deserving gets the crown . personally I find MISS WORLD better than MISS UNIVERSE .

You didnt need to specify that your prof was gay
the rich people in Philippines back then, thought sending their daughters to pageants is something that is degrading too. it changed over time as pop culture and Showbusiness became more imminent here, reshaping the social perspective.

As a Filipino, I think we enjoy it so much because it gives us something to celebrate and look forward to. It's something that we finally excel in.
I'm proud to say that new generation Filipina beauty queens are being molded to be like a goodwill ambassadress not just a beauty, body & brains but also passion and sincerity to be a positive example to others.
In philippines it is part of our culture, we celebrate beauty at least once a year. and filipinos are taking it seriously lol
Love the way she speaks facts. Love from Philippines. ❤️🇵🇭

I don't even know who Miss SA teen is. Pageantry isn't a thing at all
Zenande Sithole not everyone knows. I also don’t who is teen Miss SA is but I consider myself a pageant fan. I don’t have to know everything to qualify for that role. Even in other sports as well I know English football but I don’t know much about South African PSL but still am a soccer. I hope you get the point

Nope youa are wrong it's 1800's
On the flip side, a Filipina being cut from the semifinal has some explaining to do to the rest of the 1,700 islands. There is that massive expectation since we started placing again. In the 90's-- cough, cough (dating myself)-- the talk was just to send a picture of our contestant because they used to come back with the photogenic award only.
Save for Desiree Verdadero, Charlene Gonzalez and Miriam Quiambao. But, they were more like a hit-or-miss representatives - outliers from the norm.
why they place more ?
COZ THEY PERFORM BETTER
and why do they preform better? I think she answered that

Ouuufff YES!!
Leighton in shorts 😍😍
The Philippines had a placement drought before Venus Raj in 2010; in spite of our country being big on pageants.
I think one major factor is that after sending a memorable candidate, eyes may then focus on that country's next representative; Like what happened with Thailand after 2018.
Agree. One girl could change everything.

Hi Siera, can u make a review of Miss France 2020? many say it is the best pageant show in the world. I would love to hear ur review.
I'm French but to me miss SA is better than MF
It's the 'SUPERBOWL' of the Philippines.

We consider pageantry as a celebration of womanhood. Thus the strong community support for our beauty queens here in the Philippines, India and Thailand. I guess the same could be said for most Latin American countries.
Exactly. Correct and realistic analysis.

i’m half Filipino and Canadian, and I always support of course the Philippines and Canada because that’s just normal for me, it’s my patriotism and love for both countries.
Cool explanation! I loved your analysis and conclusion!

personally I would love to see a change and allow other countries which often never got to place, to place in miss universe
@@K2Torazo well I get where youre going with but what im saying is not to bash those who often gets placed. im saying that in my opinion I hope for a change that there other countries who equally deserves placements too. from 3:27 - 4:03, when Siera mentioned those words, the only name that's in my mind was Catrinoa Gray.
Yet both countries perform reasonably well year after year which shows you don't have to be obsessed to be among the top.
billjermaine it’s not about obsession...it’s all about having pride in ones Country.
