Go to the library or say a Half Price Books store ( if you have any near you) and you’ll find shitloads of books on Crock pot cooking. All the stores have them in they’re magazine section. I have two slow cooker recipe books. One of them is from Better Homes and Gardens and this bill has easily 300 recipes in it alone. It’s unbelievable what’s out there. 😃

@Joel Johnson This is kind of an odd comment, But Study The psychology of the woman. Women like to feel useful and important (And they are obviously). But If you learned how to cook yourself that would be very imposing to her. It's your mother, but she is still a woman. Think about it, why would she not wanna teach you to cook?? She loves you I'm sure, but woman likes to feel useful.
If you like your sauce a little thicker. In a separate bowl put in three tablespoons of corn starch and three tablespoons of water. Mix them up until its a white slurry. Then just pour it in your stew and mix in. When it starts to cool it will thicken up a bit. Great recipe!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I've been trying to copy my Grandpa's recipie and THIS was it. I've made it 3 times now. Each time reminds me of great memories in my youth. Thank you sir!
Years ago in New York a friend gave me a Crock Watcher, which I used very often and made incredible stews and soups. When we packed the van and moved down here to New Orleans, only one thing got broken. You guessed it - the crockpot. I knew that these particular pots were no longer made, so I gave up on ever having another one just like it. A thrift shop where I buy remnants for my sewing projects has a household section. I held it in my mind that this crockpot would turn up. And amazingly enough, I found EXACTLY the same one - just tan color instead of deep orange. Since I am already an expert on using this type of slow cooker, I am really looking forward to doing this version of beef stew. Thanks for your lively, funny - and very interesting hints how to make a good stew even better....
I made this for my girlfriend and she loved it! It's the easiest recipe I've cooked in my life and it was bomb, with some white rice on the side 👌🏻 I'm Hispanic of course 😛 Only difference, I used a whole carton of beef stock and only 1 packet of the onion mix, so that I can save the other packet for another time
Thanks for the simple recipes. My wife and kid are visiting my mother in law for the week and I don't want to be stuck eating dinner out the whole time. This is what I was looking for.
With prices going up here, in Canada, for fresh vegetables and meat , it's a wonderful recipe with just the basics. As a working senior living alone, I like to have extra that I can freeze and enjoy later. Thank you so much.

Your bang on regarding carrots and chuck roast !! As an ex butcher i will tell you ( im from Canada) blade roast as we call it or chuck is 100 percent more tender!! If you buy stew beef a lot if times its shanks meat ect, which has a lot of tendons sinew ect. I did your recipe the only difference is i used a bit of red wine. But not everyone uses it because of the alcohol, cheers
I believe that the alcohol cooks off during the cooking process, just leaving the flavor of the red wine... (Or) "any type" of alcohol beverage! Would be ok, for people who don't drink Spirits!

Do you do this at the end of cooking?
