High torque starter installed in this video- amzn.to/37i7Qft If first one isn’t available here is a similar one by DB electric with similar reviews- amzn.to/2rHPPbm
80HD Projects the water pump part is called the water pump inlet. They sell just the inlet gasket on riff raff diesel but usually it’s better just to replace the water pump with the inlet gasket. But that’s your decision
I've seen your vids on and off just noticed recently you been putting it alot of content much respect I've wanted to do this I have alot of same mods over 70000 miles on mods with 285000 on odometer keep it up bro
Dang. I keep looking to do mods to my truck and look on RUclips to see what other guys did and every time, I come back to your videos. And I have the same experiences. Ha ha. I bought the same bd diesel boost fooler you did and had the same issue. So I’m gonna return it and I just built my own. And now I’m looking at this starter and... Here you are already doing it. Ha ha
Hey Cody the hose that goes behind the alternator belt is often referred to as a "Dual Alternator Hose" If you are going to change it would suggest a the HPS performance silicone hose. (It is what I put on my truck). Additionally I also changed my thermostat housing to aluminum as the original is often the cause of a leak. (Warning: If you decide to do that you may have to change the water pump, as the bolts may break off when trying to remove them)
I literally just put this starter in with two new batteries last night. It is unbelievable how fast my truck starts now. The new starter is a monster compared to the "high torque" starter that was in there.
Jack nice man! I agree I love it! Whenever the truck used to struggle to start, especially when it was cold, the truck would always run like crap for a couple minutes until it warmed up a bit. Now it runs perfect right away👌🏻🤘🏻💯
I know this is two years latw, but I had a coolant leak with my lower water pump inlet o ring in basically the exact same location as you. $10 o ring fixed my issue
Thanks for the shoutout man! Glad you like it and man the new one is like a machine gun starter - its such a difference and just setting the old and new next to each other you can see that huge difference - nice install vid bro! thanks again!
Ethan Ryan yeah man, thank you for the help! Using the bucket and connecting the wires before the mounting bolts made a big difference🤘🏻 appreciate the tips🙌🏻
Mr CAR GUY nice bro!! I love that starter so much. The truck never struggles to start anymore even after sitting for a few days! Glad you enjoy the videos🤘🏻🔥💯
That lower radiator hose is connected to the elbow, it has a "O" ring gasket. You want the dual alternator hose so you can remove the belt without removing the hose.
That's my next project, even though I fired it up today at 23 degrees, started first try. I did install a glow plug light in the dash, it helps alot. Early 99 7.3(mine) has the longer upper radiator hose, I don't know what all years or when it was switched out to shorter version. With the gear reduction you pretty much tripled the power of the starter, big plus with a big diesel. Thx and Happy New Year, stay warm.
John Oehrlein nice on the glow plug light bro. I’m pretty happy with the start ups now. Love it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Happy New Years to you too!
Cody, I just installed the upper hose that goes around serpentine belt. Gates 22433 piece of cake. I also used a 1/4" zip tie to hold it tight to bracket.
T Lynch nice man good to know, thanks! A brand new one is only $40 from riffraff so I might just buy a new one with a new o-ring just so I don’t have to deal with it for a long time again
Nice job man! If you end up having to do a water pump at some point they have one that has a coolant filter built in (screw on type) should check that out. I just ripped out my whole interior and did full Dynamat/Dynapad....so much quieter...worth looking into doing yours, sterio sounds amazing now.
Great video I did that a few years ago wish I would have done it sooner. Did not know about Amazon tho so thanks for that. Someone said something about DB Electric I highly recommend that site they have everything electric for anything . I bought a tilt motor for my boat and my boat is 40 years old perfect match.
I’ve recently started watching your videos and I love em man! Picked me up a 99 7.3 in July and every time I’ve got a question I always come here and you’ve got an answer! I was wondering what your opinion is on the 8 Watt Solar Panel charger? You have the 2.5 I think and is see there’s an 8 watt on amazon. Thoughts on that one? P.S. Gained a Subscriber here!

The only thing I’m worried about is not being able to take the bolts out and having to replace the whole water pump. That’s what people are telling me might happen.
@@NoHalfAss heres a tip that payed off big .I took ground wire that goes to intake air heater.Loosed up bolt that is on drivers side of block. My wire was stuck to stud .I had to remove it from stud outside of truck arh. Replaced stud back on block, using a liitle grease to protect connection.Replaced wire back on block but spun wire 180 and connected other end to alternator bolt. This works very well and it has to be the cheapest mod I ever did lol.hope this helps. 2000 f250 4x4.
Nice job! Some 7.3s come with that 90°elbow off of the water pump & some have a straight fitting. Mine had the straight one but when I changed my water pump (from Napa) it came with the elbow. I like the elbow better. It was metal though, not plastic. The radiator hose around the belt is much better. I believe I mentioned it to you before with a part number but not sure.
The high torque starter is the exact same starter as a 2003 7.3 starter, it has a gear reduction assembly to help put more power behind the bendix, ford switched them in 02 or 03 to cope with the hard starting nature of the 7.3
@@NoHalfAss I'm about to put one on my 01 7.3 aswell as a 6.0 alternator, and something else to look out for is a new design upper radiator hose, annoying when your belt snaps to have and take the hose off
For one there is a o ring on the lower radiator hose that you should replace and that is a cast piece not plastic and 2 you do not need to remove the belt for either one of the hoses that connects to the thermostat
Jake Resch thanks man. And sorry I actually meant that you have to remove the radiator hose in order to replace the serpentine belt. I said it backwards. Lol
That starter is huge! Lol If you do the thermostat hose, you should replace the thermostat and the housing. I would be interested in seeing that. And of course you should get it through riffraff.
I have a suggestion for a future project. I’ve been looking into replacing my rear window which doesn’t have a slide opening window with one that has a power slider in it. Apparently i can get one for my 99 from the same company that makes them for Ford. CR Laurence. On the Ford Truck forums they say they cost between $500-$750. Not bad considering a 2016 center console will cost you $800-$1200 used (want one so bad, 99 dash cup holders are terrible).
bob stark wow that’s not bad! It would be pretty cool to do that upgrade! I know what you mean about the cup holders also😂 thanks for watching and thanks for the info!🙌🏻🤘🏻🔥💯
Jeff D'Mo thanks man! It’s a Viper alarms remote start, alarm, and key fob! I bought the truck with it but the audio shops near me sell the same kit and install them so that’s a good place to check if you’re interested in one. A couple people commented on my post that they run around $300-400 installed I believe.
mike bolton awesome bro! You’ll love it! I’m not sure if I can attribute batteries dying faster due to the starter. But I have about 6-9 month old interstate batteries, relatively new DB Electric 200 amp alternator, and brand new high torque starter and everything seems great so far🤘🏻
I had that leak from the elbow, couldn't get it removed without rounding one of the bolts ended up replacing entire water pump. Had good luck so far 25k mi with an air tex from rock auto $54
Sorry for the late response bud, I didn’t see this comment for some reason. The starter is great. It’s been over 4 years and it’s still working like new. One of the best upgrades I’ve done to my 7.3

I’m actually thinking about doing an update video on the starter cuz I’m still so happy with it. It works great and the truck still fires up super fast every time with it🤘🏻
Juice Box pretty sure that’s normal. The batteries are gonna have a resting voltage and then when you turn the key the starter is going to draw from the batteries so the voltage will drop until the truck starts
Michael Myers I’m not sure. I don’t think the grounding should transfer from the back end of the starter. Plus it’s a pretty solid and tight squeeze so it’s not going to separate and touch repeatedly
@@NoHalfAss just had thoughts its close enought to rub if jostled just right. And was taking into consideration it has constant power..and body and frame are grounded.
I’ve had it for over a year now and it’s still working great! And honestly, even if it only lasted a year, I’d probably still buy it again! For only $100 it’s so much better than stock and well worth it! If it completely died and left me stranded then maybe I’d be more upset and pay more for a better one but so far it hasn’t let me down!
