- Gintama is and will forever be my favorite of all time. In this video I wanted to focus specifically on that feeling of why I feel Gintama is uniquely special. No piece of media I've consumed - anime, fiction or otherwise - has ever compared to the majesty that is Gintama.
It is not just a comedy. If you have not watched Gintama, you are missing out on one of the most incredible and emotional stories you will ever experience.

Onepiece, Naruto, dragon ball,Fmba, hunter, bleach,AOT,demon slayer,MHA,black clover, jujutsu kaisen and more and more of shonen animes or other genres, watched all those animes without skipping a movie or an episode even if it's a filler, they were all peak, then I watched gintama, it's my top 1 till now and I'm sure no anime can pass gintama forever.
Even when onepiece come to it's end it won't change my mind.
Preach my friend. I agree, I don’t think anything could ever replace Gintama as my number 1. It’s in a league and genre of its own!

I'm happy to see that i'm not the only one who surprised everyone when I told them that the best and most hilarious anime is Gintama.
And thanks to "Shogun ka yo..." episodes, I cried HARD on Shogun Assassination Arc.
Just imagine if you just skip it to that arc without watching Sho-chan's comedic gold first. Maybe it will still be emotional but not as painful as if you watch it.
Gintama fans don't annoy others,
they don't shove the show up people throats.
They are the silent lurkers who are always there in the backround, and after years those backround lurkers managed to get like 10 Gintama's into the top 30 of MAL.
Agreed, it’s one of my favorite parts of our community. We all just love this show and appreciate others who do so too.

The funny thing is that Gintama haters have only seen the first 20 episodes, having battle shounen expectations due to the misdirection of Gintama fans themselves. It's my favorite anime of all time, and as a comedy geek I always advice potential viewers to watch it if and only if they enjoy comedy. The "serious" arcs are an extension of the comedy ones and not vice versa.
It has a unique structure of storytelling and it focuses almost entirely on the characters. It's not for everyone. I'm happy that we, the "seventeen dedicated fan" (lol), are experiencing its greatness together and discuss it like civilized beings in comparison with the hardcore shounen-head toddlers.
Agree with everything you said. That’s what I love so much about our community, we all love this show and love discussing it with each other, but unlike other fandoms we don’t shit on or talk down other shows (or at least we try out best not to), it’s not for everyone but it has a little bit for everyone. Gintama is one of a kind
What's also funny to me is that these Gintama haters who have only seen 20ish episodes, are usually One Piece fans. It's so ironic
@@sims2lovealotas a one piece fan myself, I've started watching gintama in 2017, I think, when it wasn't really finished. I loved every bit of it to my heart but since it wasn't finished I put it on standby.
A few years after that I started watching one piece and for the longest time I could confidently say "one piece or naruto" when asked for my favorite anime. (I think I partially forgot about gintama)
Recently I rewatched all of gintama, including the final, and it was the best anime experience I've ever had. Now, with a conclusion, it just hit a little more different.
I feel empty and gintama has left a hole in my heart. I try to fill this hole with other anime, but not one will ever measure up to it.
Even one piece, the show I was so confident about (and still really love) is not living up to what gintama gave me. The one piece fandom is either really nice or really toxic, but I can confidently say, every one piece fan who hates on gintama has no valid opinion in this, because most of the time they are just hating for the hate.

I absolutely agree that you should come into Gintama expecting a comedy and not a shounen battle anime. However, one point that stands out to me in your comment is the fact that they have only seen 20 episodes. I have to say, that's a valid weakness to the series. As a big Gintama fan the first 25 episodes of Gintama are pretty hit or miss, especially if you are a new watcher to the series. In my experience I didn't start to find the series really funny until the 25th episode (the hotpot episode) which is the point I got hooked. I loved the breaking of the 4th wall in that episode and the character interaction was so awesome (the intensity was great, it was more intense that most shounen battles which was hilarious to me).
Agreed bro, this anime is severely underrated. On the surface it's just comedic shonen, but many people don't watch far enough to see the magnificent character develop within Gintama. The side characters arguably get as much screentime as Gintoki, which is what makes each and every character so unique and memorable. Finally found people who love Gintama . Seriously people say the first 50 eps are boring and say its trash and to be honest those 50 eps introduced us many important characters and it was good . These people watch the big three , Dragon ball , Hxh and many more long animes which have boring arcs and boring episodes and say Gintama is boring . Gintama has the best mc , best comedy , good action , well written characters , best side characters , well written female characters , good story , good villains , good fights . From a comedy anime it turns to a dark and serious anime and I wish people watch Gintama and enjoy it to the last . This is truly one of the best anime's of all time .
the beauty of gintama is that every character has a real life story behind, they have their unique personalities, backstory, challenges and development which are comparable in real life. the show also dont have fancy attack names but they are really strong and have their own fighting style in and out of battle. also the breaking of 4th wall really adds the feel to the audience being connected or presented in the show itself.
most anime fans nowadays only based and ranks their favorite according to the animation quality and faces of the husbandos and waifus, mostly disregarding the quality of plot, character characteristics and feelings. also they got hyped easily to join bandwagons and just try to fit in easily. can’t blame them but hopefully more anime watchers could give gintama a chance it deserves.

Gintama saved my life when I was a teen, and it will always be my #1. It's what inspired me to pursue a career in writing. It is genuinely one of the best written animes I have ever watched/read. I got into it back in 2008 before even Nuxtaku started raving about it. It's the only anime that I have watched 8 times front to back, and also inspired my author pseudonym "Silver Story Author". And I am so glad that so many more people are starting to see the brilliance that is Gintama. Awesome video and I look forward to what you release next.

I love seeing people who truly understand Gintama for what i its. One of , if not, the best anime out there. What really makes me sad, is that people don't give this show a chance, and only go for what's trending.Gintama deserves the spotlight and deserves to be more popular because it's really something else. I actually was one of those people. When I first started to watch gintama, many many years ago, I dropped it because it was boring. Then, after several months I gave it a chance one more time, stuck trought it all, and it was the best time of my life.
This show is the only show that manages to move me and I really wish I could re-watch it for the first time again. As someone who is into filmmaking and writing, even as being someone who is working on a webcomic, this show fucking rocks. I don't see any other anime coming close to Gintama or even surpassing it, it's just carved a place in my heart and I want to embody Gintama in my own webcomic story, to pay it proper tribute and pull off the comedy-serious relationship of the narration in my own way......
I watched this show when I was 18, I laughed so hard, and cry so much, to this day, 10 years later, I still cry a little watching some of the ops and endings, the music slaps, but the context and images puts it in another lvl

Greatest show of all time,
Going through my 3rd watch on the weekends with my friend who has never seen it before. We have yet to pass the benizakura arc but I've advised him that after this arc the comedy clicks and hits harder and the serious arcs somehow get topped each time.
Also a shout out to my man Shogun, never have I met a character that made me cry with laughter and sadness as much as him.
Agreed, Shogun is GOATED. Even just his theme song whenever it came on was enough to make me smile and knew I was in for an amazing episode. Greatest show of all time no question.
I don't think I've evever felt the way I've felt after watching an anime before gintama, the way I felt sad and happy, fullifilled and empty at the same time won't he taken from that number 1 spot
Gintama will always be #1!!
In most shounens, I beg for significant side characters do die just so I can feel consequences and not just be a plethora of plot armor. In Gintama, because all these characters spent so much of their daily life together, you know that they will feel the loss of even one side character's death. You don't need to witness one of them die to understand that they will never be able to laugh and joke around if they fail to protect one friend.
When someone gets hurt (or I witness them dying), I find myself saying, "this is a shounen, Gin/the protagonist will show up out of nowhere and save the day, right? RIGHT????" Gintama is the only anime where I begged for all side characters to survive and for plot armor to be used.
And when some people do die….it hurts our soul
I remember starting Gintama 2 years ago and I got into it only expecting comedy. I don’t know why but I didn’t clock the fact that it’s a shounen so it could have serious moments. I watched the first episode which I found out was filler later. and had already laughed within the first minute. I knew then it was going to something special and after eventually completing it, it took my number 1 spot as my favourite anime of all time. What you said about it resonating with your soul is genuinely what I also felt having watched the show and connecting with the characters. Long winded comment cut short, amazing show and amazing take!

When you finish and come to this conclusion at the end, it makes you want to rewatch and see if you will find more problems or things you may have overhyped but instead you just appreciate everything even more especially the non-serious episodes.
Even just making this video took longer than normal because I kept getting stuck into watching whole episodes again. The need to rewatch is unreal!

I enjoyed Gintama from the very start, it didn't seem boring to me at all. Maybe because I was watching it for comedy, not knowing that there will be anything else. I watched Gintama after watching Saiki K, that I love, and I saw people commenting that Gintama is similar to it. So I went to Gintama for humor. I remember being shocked at the Benizakura arc, because blood suddenly showed up, and the mood was so serious. Great show, thank you for talking about it

A thing I love about the "slow" start is, that you don't feel that a big amount of info, you'll have to remember, is forced on you. It’s paced in a unique way that "playfully" introduces you to information and character and makes it easier to remember everyone and take thing ba heart

Gintama is a straight up masterpiece. It is hilarious and also filled with action. I enjoy the manga in shonen jump as well. It's just that good. It's definitely in my top 5 anime.

I have never seen such emotional arcs as okita's sister arc, mt rakuyo arc and shogun assassination arc
Honestly I kinda hate Gintama in a sense. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely LOVE Gintama. My issue with Gintama is that after finishing it everything else becomes just too tamed. Too simple. Too basic. Gintama is funny. The funniest. Gintama is deep. Very deep. Gintama is everything. You never get bored. In a sense its Japanese Family Guy. Its funny. And when it wants to be serious its serious. I love the cast. They are so much fun.

Gintama is 80% comedy 20% serious with 360+ episodes & movies. Definitely fun, but episodic & slice of life. It would take hundreds of episodes and a handful of serious arcs before you manage to piece together the "main" overarching plot. There is indeed a serious main plot that has been seeded since S1, but you'd only realize it after rewatching.
If you are interested in watching on your own or reacting, expect the focus of Gintama to be on the characters & their chemistry/bond. As you can tell, Gintama has a wide range of repeating characters. Now what happens when they mix with each other, each episode focusing on new combinations of characters that mingle and their relationships? The result is a ton of chaos, fun, sadness, bitterness, and other emotions. Watch it for the journey, not for the end goal... because Gintama doesn't have an end goal lol. No treasure, no dreams, no ambitions - and that's what makes it great hahahaha...

Omg we need a community of gintama fans from ep01. We are a rare breed. The best part i didnt known it had serious arcs within it. Which then made me feel great because the two best shonen are the one's who dont scream i wanna be something shit.

I binged the whole show during lockdown and finished it in 3 months those 3 months were the happiest of my whole life
You know some people love some movies or tv shows or books because they inspired part of their lives or taught them something in their darkest times as an emotional support. I also ran into this anime in my darkest times like 5 years ago. I only knew animes like naruto or bleach or dragon ball before. They are also fun and interesting but not very special to me at least. Gintama taught me to laughno matter what. This is why it is one of a kind for me.

I commented on the latest Gintama vid you posted but I wanted to say that I'm also a huge fan of the Like a Dragon series (used to be Yakuza in the west) and I'm clamoring for an official Gintama game made by that development team at Sega.

I binge watched Gintama last year and I’ll admit I dropped it a couple times but one day I decided that I was finishing it and once I did it became the greatest anime I’ve ever watched and nothing is even close and I’ve watched watched a ton of anime and there where some I thought would never be topped but this anime blew them all away. I tell people and they always give me the “I never heard of it” or “it’s so long” but I always tell them this anime has one of the greatest payoffs ever and that specifically the last 150 or so episodes of the anime or wherever the SA arc starts is the best stretch of anime I’ve ever watched. Not to mention every single OP and ED is amazing. I feel bad for people who won’t give it a chance because they can’t get passed the first few episodes or they just don’t want to invest the time.
This show legit makes me feel better about life. I go back and rewatch random episodes. I went to japan and it made it even funnier. This show pokes so much fun at japanese humor. Hasegawa is my favorite side character

I haved watched about 3970-4000 anime and by fair Gintama is the best. It as everything an anime needs. Isekai sometimes, action, romance, martial arts, Samurai,magic, comedy, and even more.

Gintama is probably the only show where its fans just "respectfully" beg for people to see because it's the greatest anime of all time! This show scares people because it has 300 plus episodes, (tho they're willing to invest in One Piece and Naruto because it's straight up adventure and action) but what they don't realize is, the slow pacing, the comedy, and all the fillers are essential to build a bond with Gintama family so when each one of them dies, you'll be like NOOOOOOOOOO IT'S JUST A COMEDYYYYYYY WHYYYYYYYYY NOOOOOOOOOOOOO" hahahaha! Maaaaaaaan IT IS THE ONLY ANIME THAT HAS ALL THE GENRES. It's unique, it's chaotic, and the drama is soooo done beautifully it's not the in-your-face drama but the comedy really helped! AND CAN WE ALSO SAY THAT GINTAMA HAS THE BEST OPENING AND CLOSING ANIME SONGS? WTFFFFFFFFFF ok ok I'm 25 years old, mature, and will execute my business soon but now that I'm an adult, I WILL KEEP ON LOVING GINTAMA and one day will have a section in my house where I'd put all amazing Gintama merch I could find. You said Gintoki doesn't have a huge over arching goal like trying to become the Hokage. But he does. He needs to make money and pay his rent. On time! also, raise his adopted children. Kagura and Sinpachi.

Gintama is one of the few shonen shows that I've watched that treats the female characters right. They're not treated as a means to show that women are strong, nor treated as objects. They're treated like proper characters, just as much as any of the male characters. I also like how Kagura, despite being the physically strongest out of the main trio, she still acts like a girl. Often times they'll strip a badass female character of their feminine traits and essentially make them a robot, but Gintama keeps those feminine traits while still making her badass (same goes for the other female characters, but Kagura's case is the most apparent). That's how female characters are supposed to be written, with the intention of making them actual fucking characters.

I stopped watching gintama because I didn't want to see it end
Gintama is like no other anime.
And honestly I don't think it can ever be imitated, because of how insanely executed it was from start to finish.
Sadly even if someone tried to do it, they'd probably get stamped out quickly for not following the "status quo" as of late.
You either have to follow a vanilla formula that is digestable and likable (even if it starts to decline over time), or something outlandish that will sparkle and flash for an even briefer time.
But Gintama has a way that shines long after the series ends.
Even if it doesn't look particularly flashy compared to newer series and has its flaws that are muddied from it's "generational drawbacks, " it manages to uphold a lot of standards of a great and timeless series that has people coming back.
And I highly doubt it will ever lose any of that true beauty, no matter how many new series "stand at the top."

Jojo was my favorite manga, just my favorite piece of fiction in general, nd thus, for many years. And then I watched Gintama.
It's geniuinely impressive how good the writing is. You end up wondering how could this be made by a single person. Gintama really touches your soul, and as you said, the viewer feels like he's a part of the story, like he's watching his friends.
I like how we see a character being "disrespected" and "humiliated" in the most absurdly funny scenes and how you see a very serious side of the same character a few episodes after. You just end up thinking "How I wish we went back to those times", it genuinely hurts you to see those characters succomb or get physically or mentally hurt in those more serious parts.
At the end, there are many great pieces of fiction out there, but it's like, as a viewer, I never felt such unexplainable joy, or sadness, except when watching Gintama.
Ending this with one of my favorite quotes of the anime:
