    I've been a Jethro fan for many years, and I remember where I was when I heard the news that he had passed away. I'm just beginning to play mandolin, and I'll be working on the The Warmup Thing for sure! Thank you so much!

    Thanks for posting this video. It inspired me to try to learn Jethro's Tune, which seems to draw a lot from this arpeggio exercise.

    After watching many of your RUclips video lessons and also subscribing to your channel I joined your new Mandolin Academy so I can move up to my next level of playing. Thanks for sharing your talent, skill and experience. PS: I made it a point to LEARN this warmup of Jethro Burns if it is the last thing I do...LOL

    Magnus, thank you for the great videos. I am enjoying them as a bluegrass picker getting into jazz! The Jethro tune that I have been working hard on is I've Found A New Baby from the Playin' It Straight record. I am in the Mike Marshall online class and he broke it down and provided a 4 page tab of the entire tune. It is tough to remember all the way through but I'm working on it. Like you said, breaking it into smaller pieces is the best way.

      +Drew Egerton Thank Drew! I also got in to jazz with the background as a folk mandolin player. Sounds great that Mike Marshall includes some Jethro tunes in his classes. Just give it time and you’ll learn it!

    Thank you so much for the videos Magnus! I love the step by step tutorials and my mandolin playing has taken off since watching your videos. I am learning to improvise some Gypsy Jazz with my friend, and these scales and videos are so helpful. Thank you!

    Great videos! You make it easy to follow. I took a couple of lessons from Don Steirnberg, who learned from Jethro Burns.

      Thanks Fay! I really admire the music of Don Stienberg, he is a fantastic player. I also met him at the Mandolin Symposium in 2005. Listening to him made me want learn jazz. Wish I could have lessons from him as you did. Some day maybe. Cheers!

    Great lesson. I don't know Jethro Burns' music but know Sam Bush looked up to him. All of Me is a Jazz tune I'd like to learn on Mando.

      +Jordan Riehm Thanks Jordan! You should definitely have a listen to Jethro. He got a very personal style and knows all the repertoire in this style.
      I will make a tutorial for All of Me. I love to play it!

      Magnus Zetterlund awesome. It had to be you is another one I want to nail down. Is there any chord info for the 10 jazz licks e book on your site? I know I could get a melody by ear, but always struggle with chords, esp. complex jazz chords.

    • @MandolinSecrets
      @MandolinSecrets  6 лет назад

      +Jordan Riehm The E-book is focused around melody playing and improvisation. For chords I can recommend Mike Marshall books. I will also make an E-book about jazz chords quite soon. Best thing is learning songs, there’s the harmonic progressions you need.

      @@MandolinSecrets I play guitar but was thinking about taking up mandolin. I love the sound and it seems like a lot of fun. I love the Phoenix but its a little out of my price range at the moment. I was thinking about an Eastman or Washburn. Would those be a good choice? Or is there something better I should look at?

      @@mwpv11 I see! My experience is you get what you pay for. Look for a second hand instrument. Best of luck!
