I’m 65, recently retired, and always wanted to learn how to sew my own boxes. I bought myself a very good machine a year ago and took some lessons. Now I’m learning via RUclips videos. I watched several videos on making boxer shorts. However, YOUR video is BY FAR the best one I’ve seen. Period! No need to watch any more. I’ve taken an old pair apart, bought great fabric: dark navy-blue cotton with small white polkadots, and my pinking shears and elastic band are ready. Here I go!!! Thank you!!!!!
Awesome. I am going to make my husband some boxers now. I love how you just used an old pair of boxers instead of buying a pattern for this project. Love it.
“How many of you want to see my underwear? I could not stop laughing after hearing you say that, you always seemed to put a smile on my face, thanks for sharing yet another wonderful DIY tutorial with us all.
Thank you soooo much for the idea! My husband was kind of sad because I am leaning to sew but I just had ideas for my wardrobe!! I WILL startdesigning this for him and HE will love them! Thanks Mark you are AWESOME!!!
The basic SINGER machines are pretty affordable AND they work well. You can get one for a little over 100 dollars. Not bad considering how much you can save just sewing something for your home or fixing clothes, right?
I made one for myself! 😊 The elastic part was a bit tricky since I'm new to sewing. I thought the needle was going to break with all that stretching. But yes, totally fun to make! Thanks for sharing, Mark ♡
You'll get used to the stretching over time. It takes some practice. You might want to use a larger needle if you're afraid of breakage. I'm so bummed when I break a needle!
I love that you spend a little time ironing your fabric. A lot of youtube-sewers don't iron and it annoyes me a lot, because a good sewingjob depends on well ironed fabrics. It doesn't take long to do it and if you teach other to DIY, you should always do it the proper way, so thumbs up! 👍
Great! I love to sew and especially i love to do it for others. Now i took an old bedcover from my boyfriend which is too valuable to throw away (so soft and nice color) and I can't wait to do a lots of boxer shorts for him :D.
Wow... mad talent right there, and you made it look easier than easy! I spend a fortune on boxers for my husband, and now (thanks to you) I can instead throw a pair together like a pro all on my own for pittance. Thank you Mark! xx
I wear boxers and I've never used the access flap....but if you add an extra 1 1/2" on both in the cente fronts of the boxer pattern down to the curve, you can add the flap pretty easily. I hope that helps.
Mark, I love your tutorial! Thank you sooo much for using cool music and written instructions instead of chit chatting through the entire video the way too many sewing tutorials do...because yes, we can read!! I'm subscribing and will be using this to make some comfy lounging shorts for myself. Thanks again!! :D
Thanks a bunch Mark. I have a ton of cotton fabric. I'm going on vacation soon and I plan to roll out 1 pair for each night to sleep in. A Big Thanks to You.
I love the way you do this without even ironing or pinning seams. My slapdash style exactly! Only my husband is gonna ask me if I forgot the flap. I think I'll take the time to unpick a pair rather than cut them.
kate chan GREAT IDEA! I made these for myself and I never use the flap......Just never have! Thanks for the comment Kate! Also, just reminding everyone to press the little gear next to the subscribe button on my page and then click get updates. This way you'll know when I launch a new video! Thanks
thanks a ton, man! i've been trying to get my head around making my own stuff but was never quite good at understaning what goes where when sewing you're a saviour!!!
+Devin Williams You got it Devin! Happy holidays! Make sure to subscribe to my blog. There are always TONS of projects on there, too. www.MarkMontanoBlogs.blogspot.com
I've sewn shorts before for myself, your way of making a pattern and putting them together is a bit different, but looks intriguing. But then there's lots of different ways to sew shorts/pants. Thanks for the great video. Planning to make some for my boyfriend, but will definitely not get pink fabric 🤣
Hi Mark! I'm just learning to sew and instead of just sewing things that I would love for myself, I also wanted to learn something simple that would be useful to my husband! Just found your channel by RUclips searching for "how to sew simple boxer shorts". I am a new subscriber and can't wait to watch more videos. Thanks for this great tutorial!
Hey there Rose! These are pretty easy and even though they don't have a fly, they're just fine. I never use the fly front and mostly I just sleep in these. Super comfy too, if you pick the right cottons.
Your welcome, I only come back watching your VDO again... I only have new sewing machine and first time at I sew... Your VDO will can help me sew good! Thank you again
I just finished my first, but definitely NOT my last pair of sleep shorts!! And easy and fun project. Now I don't have to wear Hanes boxers for sleep anymore and can use up some fabric from my stash!! Do you have any top patterns similar to this one? Thanks!
As a newbie at sewing, I was delighted to run into your video here. I am going to give this a shot next. I think even I can follow along and not end up with three leg holes. heh....Looking forward to watching your other videos. Thanks for the guidance!
I really love your tutorials, especially the sewing ones because sewing can be daunting. Yours are very fun and easy to understand. I don't know who edits your videos but they do a perfect job. Totally dig your music choices too!
Mark! Thank you so much for this very simple step by step tutorial. Yours was the easiest and so straight forward. My first sewing machine project and it went well. My husband really liked the boxers I made for him! Keep up the good tutorials!
Also a great idea Crissy! I'm such a toss & turn sleeper, the elastic always gets twisted when I put elastic in a tunnel so I like stitching it down. Happy Sunday and I hope you'll join me on Instagram! instagram.com/themarkmontano/reels/
Hi Julie, if you have a pair of shorts, you can use that as a loose pattern and create your own. You won't have to take them apart, just lay them flat and create a pattern on paper.
You read my "MIND MARK"!😃👌🏽👍🏼👍🏼THAT'S "EXACTLY" WHAT I WAS PLANNING TO DO 🤔TO CUT ONE OF MY HUSBANDS OLDER PAIR OF BOXERS TO USE FOR MY PATTERN!.🤔🧐👌🏽👍🏼👍🏼
Awesome! It's so easy and you can use old shirts for the fabric, too! *find me on Instagram if you're there, too. I'm @TheMarkMontano Would love to see you!
I have three Grandsons I'm going to give it ago. Hopefully they won't be like Grandma!!!! You know they always want games and stuff, which they'll get anyway. Thanks Mark you make every thing look so easy I always look forward to your videos.
Mark- I apparently am a pattern reading idiot! I struggled for two hours to figure out how to read this silly boxer shorts pattern. Then I watched your video and figured it out immediately!!! Thanks so much:)
These are great, thank you so much for the video. I have just made my third pair using knit material and they are so comfortable. Have you got a video for making T.Shirts thats easy?
Hi Mark, i'm from Germany and sometimes i have to make a Break to understand, what's going on. And than i've to turn " in cm. But your Tutorial is so great! It's simple and easy to understand. Thanks a lot and all the best for you in 2018.
Rani Moore Thank you Rani! kisses right back! Just a reminder to press the little gear next to the subscribe button on my channel and click GET UPDATES. This way you'll know when I post a new video. Thanks!
I make 10 pairs at a time and it saves me a lot of money.....Plus I like to choose my own fabrics. Also a reminder to check out my 1/2 PBS show here: ruclips.net/channel/UC-7-0iFkKLZfSy6hKEoIpJg
This is a wonderful tutorial Mark. I've made sweatpants from old sweatpants doing the same as you have done. Thanks for sharing. I had an ex girlfriend who would only wear boxer shorts. She needs to see your video. 😀❤👍🏻
Hm....If you don't have boxers, you might try a pair of shorts. If you put pins in the seams then you can trace the pattern with a crayon to make the shape of the front and back. It's called a rub off and I'm sure there are videos out there to show you how to do it.
May I ask if it matters what size boxers I cut? Also, what seam allowance did you use? Thank you so much for this tutorial! It's super helpful and I love how you get straight to sewing! I'm a newbie so this video is super easy to follow along with! I can't wait to make these cause I love lounging around in them.
IDOL! is this same procedure for making basketball shorts? same procedure for making basketball shorts pattern also? thank you so much for sharing your knowledge......
Add another inch at the top of the waistband. That sounds like it might help you out with this problem! Make sure to keep your pattern and change it so that it fits you perfectly. Then use it over and over again!
I'm so glad you got the book Sewthern! You can use more than just black spray paint, too. You could use any color actually and it would look great. I'd love a review on amazon from you if you have a chance!
Ah!!!! thank you! this looks do-able with my limited skills. Thank you thank you thank you for showing how to do this with a covered waistband! Why are nearly ALL boxer patterns with exposed elastic? This is a great quick pattern without "lazy" construction.
I think the exposed elastic makes production easier and keeps the cost down (for the manufacturer) I prefer the covered waist as well and since I never use the fly, I'm fine with it being closed.
This made me smile and wanna cry. Seen I made my kids shorts ,jeans, shirts and etc.etc. There was one pattern for the oldestbkid and the two little brat heads one pattern for them. After awhile I could cut them out without a pattern and sew them on my trusty singer sewing machine. Not the peddle one the electric one.

I hope you find me on Instagram at @TheMarkMontano
Awesome. I am going to make my husband some boxers now. I love how you just used an old pair of boxers instead of buying a pattern for this project. Love it.
Awesome, I will make one for my husband and one for me, because boxer shorts are super comfy, I love them!
Perfect!
I think they would be super comfortable made out of t-shirts. Now I want some. :)
This is a fun video and the music helps. Easy straight forward directions and complete steps shown. Thank you for the tut.
Glad you could follow along. Sewing tutorials can be boring AND they are super hard to edit. Whew!
This was my 2nd make as a new sewer 😉 my son asked for some but wanted them in the Ankara fabric and that's what he got lol xx
Wow foxxy, you're a terrific mom! I'm sure he was thrilled.
This tutorial gave me a new understanding of life.
You're funny!
:D

vickadri let me know how that goes for you! I just started sewing too and I'm super excited. I hope your hubby enjoys it!
I still make my own!

Great! I love to sew and especially i love to do it for others. Now i took an old bedcover from my boyfriend which is too valuable to throw away (so soft and nice color) and I can't wait to do a lots of boxer shorts for him :D.

I still make my own! Glad you like the project!
You are the best among all tutorials videos regarding boxers cutting and sewing
I appreciate that very much!
Hey, I made these boxers for my husband. It was so easy with your directions. Thanks!
Glad to hear it!
If you can find a way to make the pattern by measuring and stretching, then yes, that would work. I used an old pair that was ready for the rag bin.
I wear boxers and I've never used the access flap....but if you add an extra 1 1/2" on both in the cente fronts of the boxer pattern down to the curve, you can add the flap pretty easily. I hope that helps.

Not a big chatter! Glad you like the project!
Glad you like the project!
Thanks a bunch Mark. I have a ton of cotton fabric. I'm going on vacation soon and I plan to roll out 1 pair for each night to sleep in. A Big Thanks to You.
I love making my own boxers. Saves a ton of money and I don't care if they're perfect or not.
Yay! This is great! I was looking everywhere on how to make my own pattern in my bf's size! Why didn't I think of this sooner!? Thanks so much, Mark!
Such a life saver and so easy, too. I make about 10 pairs at a time. Plus I use fabric that I like like 100% soft cotton.
I love the way you do this without even ironing or pinning seams. My slapdash style exactly! Only my husband is gonna ask me if I forgot the flap. I think I'll take the time to unpick a pair rather than cut them.

Absolutely! You can have him pick out the fabrics, too. Maybe use a printed fabric with his college colors or emblem?
I've sewn shorts before for myself, your way of making a pattern and putting them together is a bit different, but looks intriguing. But then there's lots of different ways to sew shorts/pants. Thanks for the great video. Planning to make some for my boyfriend, but will definitely not get pink fabric 🤣
Everyone has their color of choice!

Nice to see a guy sewing and a superb job I love your pink stripes was hoping to see you wearing them
Only my other half gets to see me in these! :)
SOMEDAY! I'm already the perfect wife! I can sew, cook, decorate and craft my butt off!
How much meter cloth was consumed in 1 short?

Terrific Father's Day present idea!
Love the boxer shorts. This is an awesome way to make them. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much!
Thanks. Need to make these for Christmas gifts for my grandkids.
A terrific personalized gift for sure!
I think it's easier to just fold top hem and pass the elastic through. Well, at least for me, a beginner 😂 Thanks for the tutorial🌹
Also a great idea Crissy! I'm such a toss & turn sleeper, the elastic always gets twisted when I put elastic in a tunnel so I like stitching it down. Happy Sunday and I hope you'll join me on Instagram! instagram.com/themarkmontano/reels/
My elastic always gets twisted in casings! I prefer to sew it to the fabric and fold. Glad it was useful MPM!
Mark, You make this look so easy. If only my sewing machine went as fast as yours on the video, I could whip out projects in moments. :)
IT is easy!
Hi Julie, if you have a pair of shorts, you can use that as a loose pattern and create your own. You won't have to take them apart, just lay them flat and create a pattern on paper.

Love the music and the tutorial!!, this is perfect.
This is an oldie and I still love making my own boxers
I made a bunch of boxer shorts out of used cotton sheets. So soft and comfortable. No bling like yours, though! Makes me think of jams for me, though.
That's such a great idea Rebecca! SMART!
I have three Grandsons I'm going to give it ago. Hopefully they won't be like Grandma!!!! You know they always want games and stuff, which they'll get anyway. Thanks Mark you make every thing look so easy I always look forward to your videos.
Use a zig zag stitch both times. This way you'll have more stretch.
Mark- I apparently am a pattern reading idiot! I struggled for two hours to figure out how to read this silly boxer shorts pattern. Then I watched your video and figured it out immediately!!! Thanks so much:)
Always great to hear Emilene!
I figure since I sleep in them and no one can see them when I'm wearing them, that I can use whatever fabric I want! :)
They're super easy and after you make the first pair you'll wiz right through them. I make about 6 at a time.
Discovered your channel by accident while trying to find tutorial for boxer shorts. Love this tutorial as well as other videos. Now I'm a subscriber.

I love you tutorial , you made it very easy, please how do I go about it if I don't have a template boxer for xxxl size
Hm....If you don't have boxers, you might try a pair of shorts. If you put pins in the seams then you can trace the pattern with a crayon to make the shape of the front and back. It's called a rub off and I'm sure there are videos out there to show you how to do it.

Love this! I'm going to make black satin ones with lace trim. Ooh la la!
Glad to hear it!
I have cut up pants and used them as patterns, too. Simple construction. I usually turn them into shorts if they are too big and worn out.
Pants is a great idea!
Hey Chy, use a pair that fits you and I always use 1/2" seam allowance on all of my projects.
Very easy to understand really, thanks for the tutorial..
Wear in health!
IDOL! is this same procedure for making basketball shorts? same procedure for making basketball shorts pattern also? thank you so much for sharing your knowledge......
Yes, the same as basketball shorts. They're all made the same.
Thanks for the tutorial! Love the colors of the boxer!
You got it!
Mark. I just had a thought. How about if you made some with t shirt fabric? It would be comfortable like that.
OMG...Now that would be amazing. I love that idea!
Yup, no one will see! I love using 99c store fabric for boxers. I make tons of them now.
Thanks Reya!
I would love to try this in a jersey for the ultimate in sleep comfort.

I'm so glad you got the book Sewthern! You can use more than just black spray paint, too. You could use any color actually and it would look great. I'd love a review on amazon from you if you have a chance!

Thank you! I still make my own! Glad you like the project!
Definitely giving this a shot!
impressive and simple !!! great video !
You are the sweetest!
Ah!!!! thank you! this looks do-able with my limited skills.
Thank you for sharing, gonna make my son some soon
They're easy and you can use amazing fabrics, too!
I love this video! Thanks for sharing
Glad you liked it. I haven't purchased boxers in years now.....Love making my own.
I AM AMAZED!!
Wow! Thanks so much!
This made me smile and wanna cry. Seen I made my kids shorts ,jeans, shirts and etc.etc. There was one pattern for the oldestbkid and the two little brat heads one pattern for them. Judy Obrien Awesome! It saves tons of money and I always make mine a little longer.
