- More than 30 Americans are back in the U.S. after fleeing violence and turmoil in Haiti via a government-chartered flight. Some were visiting Haiti when they became trapped by weeks of gang violence. To discuss the turmoil in the country, CBS News was joined by Jonathan Katz, author of "The Big Truck That Went By: How the World Came to Save Haiti and Left Behind a Disaster."

The question is what were they doing in Haiti, the second is why do we have to pay with our taxes to rescue their irresponsible people who spent a whole year telling them not to go to Haiti?

Haiti is on an island with significant natural resources but is poor and dangerous. Iceland is on an island with few natural resources but is prosperous and safe. Why is that?

guns have been smuggled through the Caribbean for decades and they come from all over. If there's money to be made people find a way. So the presence of guns there doesn't mean there's some conspiracy.

Most of them are either Haitian Americans who have family there or are humanitarian workers trying to make it not a "hell hole."
