- I wanted a quality drone without spending too much serious money. This is really the first time I planned to take a drone out and have it really fly high in the sky and capture actual videos and pictures so I didn't want anything too cheap either. I chose this one as it has great specs for video/pictures and it comes with 2 batteries, a case, and the remote is also rechargeable. I love the fact that I don't have to waste money on AA batteries for any of this setup! This is a clone of the popular SG906 Max drone.
Assembly:
There is not much to assemble as it comes pretty much assembled. You just need to pry the top cap off of the drone so that you can firmly push in the active obstacle sensor. The battery slides right into the drone. You then fold out the 4 arms, which already have propellers attached. The remote control has a contraption to hold your phone.
Pre-flight setup:
Before you fly the drone, you need to ensure it is calibrated and getting GPS signals (otherwise some features don't work, like auto-return). I turned the drone on first, by long pressing the power button. Then I turned on the remote and connected my phone to the app. I long press the top right button (camera). This initiates the calibration process where you need to rotate the drove horizontally around 3-5 loops/cycles till you hear the first beep. Then you have the camera facing downwards and rotate it again for another 3-5 times till it beeps one more time. I then long press the top left button for about 5-6 seconds and it beeps. Now look at the remote to see how many satellites are picked up...if you have around 10 or more, you should be in mode 2 and ready for flight.
Taking off and flight control:
You aim the 2 joysticks inwards or outwards (on the bottom side) and if you calibrated the drone correctly, the propellers will start to spin. Then you can use the left stick or the auto lift off button to get it into the air where it will hover about 5 feet off the ground. The left stick controls the height and left/right rotation. The right stick controls movement: fwd/backward, right and left. Thats pretty much it, you enjoy it from there.
Other thoughts and summary:
The app is pretty full featured and has lots of on screen options. You can set the video/picture capture on the app or via physical buttons on the remote. You can do special things like setting "follow-me" modes. You can control whether you get an SD or HD feed to your phone and so much more. I flew this on a few days that were both sunny, cloudy and windy. This drone handled moderate wind very well. I'm really happy with how stable it is in the air and how easy it is to control in the open field. It goes up very fast! Image quality is good for this price range. The auto return works extremely well. My test showed it landed exactly where it took off. The obstacle avoidance worked very well as I stood in front of the drone and it just refused to come at me (you'll hear beeping to let you know). The only things I have yet to figure out is how to get footage to capture onto the SD card vs sending it to my phone. Despite that, I still very much enjoyed my experience. I thought it would be a lot more difficult but it turned out to be a lot simpler and controlling it was not hard at all. I'm looking forward to more chances to get out there and fly this drone again and capture cinematic footage.

Yeah several of these drones are identical but with different branding. This drone is one of the best I've tested.

Good review but you did not point out and/or mention the all buttons on the remote control. Also, what did you mean by only one button works on the gimbal?

I'm trying to decide between this and the SG906 Max3. One drawback of the SG206 is that the camera won't angle all the way down. Can this drone angle straight down?
SG906 Max 3 seems to have different kind of avoidance system installed.

Can you install a SD card and how large of an SD will it take?
It takes micro SD cards and I would recommend 128GB or less, but for sure the manual will give you the exact details.

How does it do in wind
It performed well in the air. I didn’t notice much drifting or loss of control due to wind. I tested another drone this week and it’s much worse…just drifted and almost ran into a tree.

Flew mine today. Video took from 30 seconds to over 2 minutes from what drone saw to show up on phone screen at less than 50 ft away. Drone stopped responding to controller at same distance and went straight up into a tree smashing a blade set on the way down. Not at all happy!!!
Did you have the obstacle avoidance camera setup correctly? Did you have enough GPS signal? Sorry these may be stupid questions but I haven’t had that problem. The video feed works instantly for me while on the ground as well as after it flew. I always fly it within sight.
@@johnny0723 As the instruction manual is so small I haven't yet figured how to turn whatever shows on phone as needing changing. l do know the WiFi signal does not show as a strong signal here in my area. I know my phone is a 4 and not a 5. She did find a magnifying glass today that is big enough for me to read manual. Now if the wind would stop blowing long enough to play. Thank You for asking questions that lead me to other things.
