so this video literally helped me realize how drums truly work and how I need to just take my time. After watching this I mastered the double on the snare, a double with a double hi hat foot, a double with a double bass on the next two beats with a double hi hat snare, and I can do them all while switching between each drum on my 8 piece set flawlessly. Took me maybe 2 hours to learn, and I can do it pretty fast. My gf has been telling me how the drums were a dumb purchase, but now she is like wtf....Thanks philip...

I remember when I first wached this video
Hi Philip, I am in a band, and started out just in a singing role. Then they asked me to play the Tambourine. After a while, I was playing a Djenbe drum for percussion, and the Tambourine depending on the need. Then Our brave leader brought a Roland drum kit for me to try. We only connected two of the pads, so I could keep the beat to our songs. I recently bought an Alesis M6 Drum Kit, which has a small foot print. Your lesson here has helped me a great deal. Thank you so much.

Commenting on your video after 11 years after it was made. Thanks, this is very useful - I am looking to buy some edrums and wondered how difficult would it be to learn. I think since this is fun, it can be learned over time and the learning process would still be engaging.
I can't do the fast tempo just started today, only able to do the slow tempo while trying to count the beats n coordinating my hands 😅

See I just got a electric drum set for Christmas but I don't got a hi hat control or a kick yet because the cords don't fit into the pedals for some reason the cords are to big so I just practice by doing simple things without kick and hi hat control

You can play the bass drum on all four notes it you want to for a more solid feel, and to keep it simple for beginners, most people refer to it as 'Four on the floor'

My body is so stiff when it comes to play drums it's hard to loosen my arms and stuff, I tried in my schools drumming class and I played like a damn robot, that I went right back into guitar

The first beat I learned was the hi-hat on all 4 counts, a kick on 1st count, a snare on 3rd count, and every other time a kick on 2nd count as well as 1st count...

@@toyokorides Hahaha. It's been a roller coaster. Played solid for 3 years, jamming with mates in a studio once a week, then had bone graft surgery in my wrist following a crash in my bike. Didn't touch drums for 2 years and started doing vocals, also another child meant I didn't have a spare room for my kit. Early this year I decided to get back behind the kit but had another crash on my bike in June and fractured my shoulder blade, which I have been recovering from, but feeling much better now and in a house big enough for my kit to be set up👌
