witcher ost is fucking amazing
One of the best examples of how good rt can look in a game imo.
Unfortunately also one of the worst performing. I mean, it was a free update, yes but why did the dx12 implementation have to be so broken
It is fixed now lol, you can see right in the video that RT costs like 40% performance - that is normal for high level RT
@@damara2268not fixed. Same settings and totally different performance results when comparing both dx versions
@@damage968 of course, the DX 12 translation layer has overhead on Witcher. It was originally dx11 game and dx11 doesn't support RT so there is no other way than using translation layer.
If you're not going to use RT there is no point in launching the dx12 mode of the game.
@@damara2268 you're not giving me any news. You're the one who said it was fixed lol
@@damage968 it is reasonable to lose like 40 percent of your frames for rt. Depending on how heavy the implementation
Something that I haven't seen in benchmarks is the difference between RT quality vs performance. What is the diference? the number of light bounces?
Lower ray budget
Lower density GI probe placement, shorter cutoff distance for GI probe placement, and fewer rays per GI probe.
RT reflections, shadows, and ambient occlusion are unchanged.
This game is still undefeatable can’t believe its game from 2015 god damn it
The shadows in the first intro room made my buy an rtx card. I had it on automatically with ky old card and 10 fps, now ultra and raytracing with 120 fps. Frame generation made me go from amd to nvidia
You dont need RTX for raytracing
I have intel a750 and works with 60 fps stable.
Unfortunately the RT shadows are buggy for everyone in parts of Novigrad. RT shadows become pixelated and turn on and off for no reason. RT ambient light is also strange sometimes, the light from outside leaks into houses even when it should be impossible.
Man i am yet to find anyone who compares the RT Performance vs RT Quality, There is a performance/Quality mode for when RT is on but everyone is only doing RT on/off comparisons but no visual comparisons for both RT modes
Digital Foundry did a quick comparison in their Patch 4.01 video. The 'Optimized Raytracing' mod on nexusmods has a similar comparison, it's of vanilla vs mod but it'll give you an idea of the kind of changes.
I think so few people show it because the differences are small and you need to know where to look. To make things worse, the differences are random because the GI probes are placed randomly.
the Moment when RT makes a 16GB, 1200€, 4K GPU (RTX 4080), drop to mid 40fps and look stupid, even with DLSS (Quality).
This Game, Cyberpunk and Alan Wake 2 already degraded the 4080, from a 4K to a 1440p GPU, just after a year of it's release. That's Insane.
dude, use frame generation. otherwise yes, in raw performance, these games kill the 4080.
@@alinguist9793 only if using controler tbh, and even then, 40fps isn't good even with frame generation
@@Gadottinho vrr tv
looks better without ray tracing.
Thank you! this video just proved i dont need RT, the game still looks good without ray tracing.
Happy to help 😂
Did the game an update recently? Thanks for the video
The 4.04 patch was released in July.
to be honest i dont get it. in some scenes rt makes things too dark like in 1:46 and in other instances it makes the scene too bright like in 0:49. those scenes are two examples where rt off looks better.
nah, it probably do look too dark most of the time, it doesnt reflect light the same amount it would in real life
@@Gadottinho We will never be able to simulate reality, I find the current RT pretty impressing most of the time!
0:49 looks good to me. White walls get a lot of light bounces but yes, it can makes things way too dark because actually raytracing use really low settings, even on high preset, to not make framerate drops to 5fps on a 4090
It goes both ways yes but it should arguably be even brighter in the 0:49 scene because sunlight creates very strong bounce lighting in real life.
RT tree/foliage self shadowing is a little bit overtuned imho.
Yeah. My guess is it's because they treat the leaves as completely opaque whereas IRL leaves allow some light through.
Another issue is that characters don't have self-shadows from their hoods onto their faces. They were overlooked even though they added self-shadowing on Geralt's armour, even in DX11 version. Just one of many gripes I have, haha.
Max settings, ray tracing maxed, hairworks - 1440p DLSS on quality setting and frame gen is on. Looks amazing, high FPS with a 4090 (with frame gen).
The problem is the constant crashing I've seen, it can play for an hour or 5 minutes but it will crash eventually. either in the menu's or just loading into another area.
Only fix I found so far was downloading a newer version of frame gen from tech powerup and pasting it into the right folder. Just make sure you don't ever tab out though or it might crash anyway.
phew I thought my 4080 broke when i started tabbing and weird shit happened - black screen, crazy shaking of objects and characters
So I'm not the only one struggling to run it, RT looks amazing on the game, but it's hard to play at 40 fps in some spots especially the city
Let's admit this is at all not so attractive. It is nothing personal. The castle looks nice. But other than that: the trees are too dark. The alleys are too dark. Many things too dark, that's the feeling in detail.
One of the best implementations of global RT imo.
Is RT solid now? Like without problematic visual bugs?
Yes, it is solid now.
It's not without visual bugs. There are plenty of moments in Novigrad, where shadows are bugging out. Dissappearing, popping in in front of you or flicker.
@@mrblonde609I have been playing with RT on, haven't seen any major visual bugs as of yet
@7ol4 Unfortunately, there are plenty. I don't use RT on my 4090 because of them.
@tylerbraun8748 like what? Big one for me that if I have hair works enabled Geralts hair looks grey and not white so I have it disabled, other than that the experience is great so far. Haven't seen any immersion breaking visual bugs
i7 10700F with RTX 4080 is bottleneck
4k RT with FSR3 mod on 3080ti gives me average of 60fps and still using 6700K at that. What gives?
rt is cool but my eyes cant handle it wtf , it feels like im on shrooms
0:29 WTH? That doorway has a reflection that totally clashes with the sunlight coming in on a different angle.
because that's how it should be. The sun is not the only one making light, the HDRI lights up things too, and it lights it up in every direction, meaning that reflection is accurate.
Its because some textures in the game, like the floor, have baked in shadows to simulate lighting for older consoles and PC. They would have to remake these textures without the simulated lighting for when we turn on Ray Tracing.
What about RT performance mode?
Literally no difference
My game broke when active the RT….I don’t know why
The bigger difference is the frame rate!!! Rtx is shit
No 60 fps is not worth it no matter what
That framerate loss, it says everytging. Are u using dlss?
Yes.
in certain scenario original tone is better than overshadowed rtx
Yeah like inside Kaer Mohren - castle in background look a lot better without RT. I feel like all u need to do is to apply orange filter to original version
Such a performance hit for barley noticeable improvement in visual quality
1:08 0:27 ???? very noticeable
It's more about visual accuracy than about quality.
We can't just keep pushing the polygon count like the PS2 and PS3 era.
We have focus on other visual elements and make those accurate too. Just having higher detail environment but with piss lighting. It would look very odd.
Honey isnt meant for donkey's mouth
@@daikon711on a still image, in actual gameplay not really plus is a 30 fps hit this is a generational or two in visual fidelity performance hit, a bit of reflective floor dont justify it.
@@Ashwin-ksrwell the point is if there is a huge improvement then yes foe sure, but these games look almost identical, even Alan Wake 2 I turned off ALL of the raytracing and it still looks incredible, if you told me it was with ray tracing I would believe it. Proper HDR implementation have a bigger visual impact and is mostly an afterthought on many games. Also, higher frames, we are not in the CRT era, we should be aiming for 120fps base as most modern tvs support this frequency. No point in having “better lightning” if the game runs at 30fps
I prefer to play at 60fps. The framerate is not worth
одна из тех игр, где рейтрейсинг координально меняет картинку
Someone can explain me Why i don’t have the ray tracing option on my the witcher 3 please ?
Launch the game in DX12 mode.
@@MxBenchmarkPC thanks for the answer
Эта игра не разрабатывалась под rtx !И лучше играть с оригинальным освещением!Так как задумывал разработчик!А этот решейд который они накатили не как тут не вяжеться!Всё либо тёмное либо светлое!
35-40% loss of performance despite the fact that in some moments the picture with the turned off RT looks no worse and even a little more interesting than with the turned on RT. Well, thanks, and this is from the 4080. My 4070ti is not happy. In The Witcher 3 RT is done very poorly.
when will a new update come?
I don't know 😂
Ahh bottelneck at its best😂
To the people that say "wuaaaaah with raytracing enabled everything is tooo dark wuaaaa". Watch 0:59
Raytracing is brilliant and makes things realistically bright or dark as it should be.
somehow it looks worse
You must be blind.
@@mrblonde609 🤷
I also like off more or at least not much worse some things look better with RT like lights and shadows some things look awful like the floor in inside the castle that look like its constantly wet
I will play this only when fsr 3 will be there
Ps I played this masterpiece long time ago just want it with good settings on my 3070
It's better without RT, but with RT the game becomes too dark.
lol
@@carlosmann100the man is so damn right. RT has always been trash
I feel it’s the opposite. Sometimes the shadows become too harsh without the bounce lighting.
Yes cos darker in this case is more realistic
Huh? Shadows and lighting look fucking awful without raytracing. Was OP high af when he made this?
