I worked for a tech in a massive Data Centre in Dublin, Ireland and the place was full of AOC cables, horrible, absolutely horrible cables, if optic fails whole cable has to be replaced, it's a joke and not good for techs as if they have nothing better to do all day/night than to endlessly have to replace cables because someone though integrated optics is a good idea ? absolute joke! Then someone uploads wrong firmware or something and next you know tickets come in to replace hundreds of cables or more! At least with DAC cables, they're usually only going from Server to TOR, 2 maybe 3 meters max. I've spent entire shifts replacing nothing but AOC cables where I would just have to replaced optics on normal MM or SM connections. Thankfully I got out of that large corporation hell hole and now work in a small DC with no AOC! Yay! :-) ( at least not yet ) Another positive is that I don't have to deal with break out cables again, nightmare!
I've got a small home setup that's going to be 10GbE... Considering the Ubiquiti Edgeswitch-16-xg and using full copper DACs for simplicity.. Fiber just doesn't make sense for home use in a 49 m2 apartment.. The only two long runs are on 15m CAT7 anyway.. I just need to find a relatively short rack, to fit maybe 4 dual rack servers and the switch.. Any ideas? Not too experienced with racks.. 🤔
Hi! Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, as we're a business more focused on optics, we don't have sufficient information to discuss rack recommendations.
what does it mean active and passive also Top of Rack and Middle of Rack?

Is this an issue due to AOC cables? or due to just poor quality AOCs? Surely this issue is not that widespread?
