    Mike
    I don't know why I am just now seeing this. I thought I had seen all your videos. I think you should design a pig tail with a drip leg on the bottom of the trap. Kind of like the drain trap/clean out on an A coil pan. I hope you have a peaceful and happy day.

    The main vent was rusted (stained with rusty water) probably because the blocked ptrol let the pressure get too high, pushing the water out the back and up the return, no?

    I always install a brass union at the top side of the pigtail when configured like that. it makes life easier for me and the next guy. Or, if you're daring, you can open the diaphragm housing on that particular switch.

    Mikey I can tell you why the pressure gauges are topped out at 30 psi instead of say 15 or 20 psi inside the gauge(if you haven’t had one apart before) it has a springy flat brass tube inside that is curved and straightens as the pressure increase and pushes on a geared strip which pushes and pulls on a central gear if the tube is calibrated and designed to top out at 15 psi and the unit operates on or close to that pressure, the extended time it is held out in a straighter position increases likelihood of the tube stretching permanently and won’t operate correctly afterwards , if you use a higher gauge it operates with less straightening of the brass tube, it stays accurate for much longer, that’s as easy as I can explain that , cheers bud, oh by the way riveted by your channel every week keep it up

  • @pb7379-j2k
    @pb7379-j2k 3 года назад +1

    They make them 30 so that if the relief is failing, you can see that it’s failing. If the gauge were say 15 you’d have no way to know the prv was failing.
    Of course, the gauge fails or clogs two weeks after installation plus who is in the basement watching for it to fail anyway?
    Not sure why replace gauge glass nuts though!

  • @edjusted4496
    @edjusted4496 3 года назад

    Good video The only thing I would of done differently was to of changed the sight glass as well. We make it a habit to do the rubbers and washers and normally the nuts are ok to reuse.It looked like there was wear on the glass and maybe it was also cut a bit too short last time

    Agreed that was a great service call! An idea! This time of year ask the customer if they want you to call them in the fall and schedule a pm service call! If so keep a log of these customers and call them and use that dead time between ac and heat in the fall to do the pm service calls ! Nothing like being proactive to make some easy money Mikey pipes!

    I usually try to tell customers whats going on and how some of the stuff works like how you do and had 1 customer who didnt care and just wanted it done and told my boss that and my boss told me I need to not do that which bugged me. 99% of the customers who I have gone to want to know whats going on and things I will be doing to fix the problem. Told my boss straight up I was going to continue to inform customers whats up, and dont care about the 1% who dont care what I would be saying to them.

    Hi Mike, New Subscriber here but long time lurker. I have 2 questions; 1)when reconnecting the pressuretrol does it make a difference if you keep the wiring in the original orientation (original top wire goes back to that original position) or can you switch positions as long as they are wired with one wire to the top screw and one to the bottom?
    2) would it have been okay to put a brass nipple and connect the pigtail with a union in order to bring out the pressuretrol a little further for easier maintence next time.
    I am a complete noob who just enjoys watching these videos and also see some nice houses in the five towns that you bring us into. Thanks for feeding the people.

    Hey Mikey ... good on you for using a brass pigtail, instead of black iron. Wish they would make pigtails a bit longer horizontally, so the pressuretrol has enough room to spin without hitting the jacket. In some cases, I have used a short nipple and coupling to lengthen the horizontal portion of the pigtail. As for water spilling on electrical controls, I keep a roll of Glad wrap or Saran wrap on my truck, and wrap an electrical control before doing pipe work on a boiler, if there is a chance it could get a control wet. Keep up the good work.

      Easier work elsewhere that did not require much learning I guess. He. Did not really show natural aptitude for understanding the systems he was shown working on and not much evident enthusiasm for learning (he did not ask many questions). Of course I could be totally wrong as I base my opinion purely on You Tube videos which by their nature do not show everything and are selective from an editing perspective.
