After smoking for 30 years, I quit just over a year ago. Once I stopped, I realized how badly smokers stink and how much money I save.

I transitioned to vaping (e-cigs) for about a year, which still maintained the nicotine addiction but got me off the physical smoking habit. Then I weaned myself off that using Chantix. Good luck to you!

+ochko peren Go to the doctor and ask them for Champix! Made me quit thedirty 17 year habit in just 2 weeks and left me with no cravings or anything! I quit taking the pills after the second week once I quit and I haven't had any cravings or anything! Well worth looking into! And I know what you mean by how badly smokers smell! It's the most off putting smell to me now! People smell like ashtrays! Haven't had a smoke now in over a month and besides feeling overall better the main thing iv'e noticed is my physical strength feels like it has increased by 20%. That plus not coughing my lungs up every morning! So many up sides to quitting... Think CHAMPIX!

Why do smokers not seem to realize that smoking stinks before they pick up the habit? I always thought it stunk, even growing up living with two adults who smoked in the house all day.

Not one cigarette since Oct 12, 2015 and it already feels great.

+ghayath2011 Hang in there warrior. You can do it. We were a family of four. Dad-Mom-My only Brother-and I. I'm retired now and I think back to their three funerals due to smoking. The rooms at home filled with smoke when we were kids, the coughing and hacking. Their gradual physical decline one by one. The stench and odor of my brothers breath as I tried to hold him down on the hospital bed, they finally loaded him full of drugs to avoid using restraints but then I could not talk to him. And before I get hammered by some wise-ass come back comment to defend their "right" to smoke and "live and let live"...go through the funerals, smell, heartache and loss of watching a loved one tore out of your life...and then only after that experience, lets see your attitude. Because until have watched those caskets go into that hole your idea of reality as related to smoking does not even exist. A 30 second clip, if heeded, could spare you and loved ones a needless death..watch..."Yul Brynner Don't Smoke" here on YT.

I quit smoking 4 days ago. I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 20 years. At 36 I felt like I had lungs of someone 136. Now that I know I can go a day (or 4 days) without smoking, I am completely focused on my health. Changing my diet and exercise routines. I just did not see the point in eating healthy or exercising then chasing it all down with a bunch of cigarettes. If you are a current smoker and want to quit. Keep trying, you can do it. I probably tried 50 times before I made it to a day smoke free. I am using the patch, which is not a miracle worker, but it does help. Now to heal my lungs. They feel terrible.

I'm just curious, how is it even possible to smoke 2 packs a day in today's America? Smoking is now treated like an addiction you need to feed in an isolated area 50 feet away from a building. I don't even think smoking in your own home or car is even legal now. I'm not sure; haven't smoked in over 23 years.

I have been a smoker for 20 years, I used nicotine lozenges for 2 weeks and then quit Cold Turkey when my lozenges run out. At first it was difficult as I kept on thinking about a nicotine high but each day I would be thinking of Cigarettes. I will never go back Smoking Again. Learned my lesson the hard way. It's now a month since I quite and going strong. I used to enjoy smoking, but when you understand what them cigarettes are doing to you, you will want to try and quit. Its never too late to try.

Did you quit cold turkey? I've been smoking for 10 years now and can't go on anymore: my chest hurts, cough and overall feeling is as if I'm always sick. Can you please share what exactly helped you quit?

    • @veganlogic4empathy
      @veganlogic4empathy 7 лет назад +6

Hi, Natalia. Well, I was vaping and smoking at the end. Mostly vaping. I had been vaping for about a year as well. I realized I was really only inhaling smoke into my lungs and was totally honest within myself about what I was actually doing. Just like you are being honest about what it is doing to you. I also cut out diet pop(aspartame and sucralose, artificial sweetener's) earlier that same week and was eating only clean food(fruits, veggies, legumes(beans), grains(rice, pasta, cereals), nuts, seeds), soy milk and veggie burgers. I believe this helped isolate the smoking addiction problem in my mind so when I walked away from smoking it felt surprisingly right and natural. I stopped vaping the same day as well. I didn't look back. From your comment it truly sounds like you may be primed to walk away too. Perhaps print out our conversation here and refer to it if you should ever feel the need to. I've been where you're at, and feel your pain. Am hoping the best for you, Natalia.

I smoked 20 a day for 15yrs and quit about a month ago. I waited until I had a cold/flu because I knew that whenever I was ill, cigarettes would smell particularly bad as they had done on several occasions that I had gotten ill before. I got out of bed on the first 'REAL' day of my cold (no sleep, sweating all night, shivers, fever etc) and coughed-up everything I could. I went to the kitchen & forced myself to eat some warm food and drink loads of water & headed straight to the shower... I set the water tempreature to as hot as I can tolerate and just try and relax in the shower and let the heat loosen more of that mucus in my lungs. I tried to cough out anything more that I could while I was there. Having your lungs and sinuses empty like this will make any cigarettes you come into contact with, smell EVEN worse. Any physical side effects you might feel from nicotene withdrawel are masked and quite easily mix in with the symptoms of your illness (sweats, agitation, sleeplessness etc). But the best thing about quitting smoking like this, is the desire to eat more, which works perfectly while you have a cold/flu, as most people are not motivated to eat. After a couple of sleepless nights, your body HAS to fall asleep & it does. And it will be around this time that cigarette smoke really begins to smell disgusting & intolerable. Remember, you are NOT smoking since day 1. But you must make sure that you get outside and walk through town. It is in these moments when you'll get just enough passive smoke from others to be repulsed by it and then go about your day... The more you cough up, the worse the cigarettes start to smell... You should feel fine as soon as your cold has gone, and the smoke will continue to repulse you. Bet of luck x

I was diagnosed with Emphysema over 15 years ago and I still don't use any medications to manage my condition. What I use is protandim and it helps with the pain from caughing. The difference is absolutely amazing. Also, I do deep breathing AND total exhailing. After breathing as deep as I can, I exhale all the breath from my lungs. After about 10 in an outs, I caugh to remove any flem in my lungs.I spend an hour each day doing this. After getting it out, I use serapeptase. An enzyme I buy from the health food store that desolves scare tissue. "I NEVER USE SERRAPEPTASE BEFORE REMOVING THE FLEM FIRST". The mucus will pour into your lungs so get it out first. Anyone reading this who actually suffers from Emphysema and might want to give this a try , please follow exactally as I posted and maybe you'll get the same results. Don't worry about those who write a nasty comment.IF you want to try it. Serrapeptase needs to be taken on an empty stomach 2 hours before eating anything. I buy my protandim from the company that makes it. This program is what absolutely works for me.

Maybe because most of the content of the video is pseudo-scientific bullshit that someone just made up to get clicks? Is it such a bad thing when people don't just say "thank you" to every piece of garbage that is thrown at them?

I've quit tobacco and anything regarding to this crap for 20 days now and let me just say... I will never go back. I'm more energetic, more high spirited and my motivation for a better life (career and body) has quadrupled. I smoked a pack and a half a day and couldn't even go 30 minutes comfortably but NOW I'm even working out! I weigh 250 and hoping to drop down to at least 200 :) Becareful though people, my appetite nearly doubled so you'll have to really pay attention to your hunger. Best of luck everyone.

I smoked for 17 of the past 21 years. I am now 37 years old and just quit cold turkey last week. I am so mad at myself for even starting to smoke. I hope I can reverse even some of the damage I have caused to myself. I was not a heavy smoker, the most I ever smoked was a pack a day, but my "normal amount" ranged from 3-8 cigarettes a day. If I was around other smokers the amount would increase but luckily my two ex husbands were not smokers and that did keep my habit down.

I was adopted and my mom wanted to quit smoking before I was born (my birth mom picked them out while she was still pregnant) and came home. Eventually she was desperate enough and went to one of those silly quit-smoking conferences. They did some bizarre group hypnosis thing, she walked out and never smoked again. Even if it was just some mental placebo effect it worked. Good enough for me.

I quit smoking 2 months ago and honestly, I'm surprised how easily I kicked the habit.
You really have to be a long-term heavy smoker for any actual physical signs of withdrawal to occur, and the rest is just a habit. A psychological addiction, nothing else.
It's a series of cue situations that usually trigger the need to light one. My advice is to be on the lookout for the time of day, particular situations, moods or any other thing that might have impact on the habit. And then replace the habit with something else. Like a chewing gum. Trick yourself and re-route that habit path in your brain.
    - This is the method from the book The Power of Habit, it's a brilliant book!

Honey is good. If you take a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (not regular white vinegar) and a teaspoon of honey a day you will fight inflammation. Great for bronchials and clears a lot of the mucus which makes it difficult to breath. Great for colds too. I started using it when I noticed a cold coming on which always turns into a bronchitis for me. I never got the bronchitis this time and the cold symptoms were pretty mild. I decided to keep using this every day since my breathing is also a lot better and I have a lot less mucus blocking my airways. I have emphysema. It's not a cure all but it does help a lot. I don't know where to get raw honey. I just use the store brand one and it seems to help.

Everyone wants clean air right? Especially in our homes. Air purifiers are expensive and don't move a lot of air with their small fan and tiny filter. Get a 20 by 20 inch box fan, controls need to be on the top, not the back. Then tape on the BACK a high quality, about $15 each, furnace air filter. 3m make nice ones. Note the flow direction, see arrow on the filter. Set on LOW. Now you have an air purifier that costs under $40, and it outperforms an air purifier costing 10 times as much. Move it from room to room, put it on when you sleep, etc. Simple, a giant filter, 400 square inches, with a large 20 inch fan moving a lot of air. See how dirty it gets in a month or two, you will LOVE IT. Removes allergens/odors too. A must have for anyone you know with respiratory problems/concerns. Indoor plants help also, with SwordPlants aka Mother in Law Tongue plants providing the most oxygen. What are you waiting for, get these items for the people you love!

I quit 22 years ago. I still remember the first week of withdrawals. The first three days is the hardest but hang in cause each day get better. I enjoyed bathing in wonderful smelling soap and no fear of getting on and elevator at work. I knew people at my job could smell my hair and body full of smoke.

People, honestly. The best way to detox any part of your body (lungs) included is to feed your body nutritious wholesome foods, lots of water and exercise (walking) included and stop eating shit and putting crap into your bodies. The body is amazing and will fix itself as long as you STOP damaging it. Everyone wants to abuse their bodies for years and then quick fix it. You didn't get Fat in 30 days so don't think you'll lose it in 30 days, after 15 years of smoking you are not going to clean your lungs in a few years. AS LONG AS YOU STOP, it will get better.

You know how I quit smoking? I asked my doctor to help me hate smoking. After examining me he said, he hears a suspicious sound coming from my lung and I should go to a pneumonologist. I don''t know if he was telling the truth or not but I haven't smoked since that day (2 weeks). My appointment with the pneumonologist is in a month but since I quit smoking without any problems, I don't think I'll start again even if the doctor says its nothing serious. If you're scared, you hate it and that's how you quit without cravings.

I'm 78 and have smoked roll-ups for nearly 65 years, non stop .The last 10 years i have COPD and have to pace myself when I do anything physical...........Have had agood life and still enjoy undemanding hobbies"painting and building guitars",,and thoroughly enjoy my ciggie with a coffee or between courses at a dinner or pretty much every hour or so. I find its very good at relieving stress and helps when concentrating on a problem.....If I could live my life again, knowing what I know now..I would not smoke....but when I was a child everybody smoked ,,,Nurses gave a cigarette to wounded returning soldiers and it was far from frowned on.Sooooo......that's it.....just don't forget you're going to die.....at any age...no matter what........and with that thought nanight x Pete.

There are several things for stopping cigarettes you can try
Get motivation and support from peers.
Just do it - you will feel better by doing things - especially by doing things which push your boundaries and this will keep your mind off smoking
(I read these and more ideas on Avyan smoke tactics site )

Well while that is marginally right, it's also wrong because your diet has a lot to do with the growth of enzymes that work very hard to slowly loosen resins in your lungs. If your are not eating enough of said nutrients then your body can't physically birth the new enzymes. Some will be born, but we need alot of those dudes just like we need bees on earth.

If there's anyone who can help I have a few questions.
I'm 30 now and I have been smoking for about 18 years (10 a day) I've also been smoking weed for about 10 years,
3 months ago I quit smoking and got an electric vapor cigarette and a cannabis vaporizer. I'm gradually reducing the amount of nicotine in the vapor cigarette to 0 and feel a lot better than I did when smoking.
It also made quitting a lot easier than going "cold turkey". The cannabis vaporizer is a much healthier way to smoke weed and I find myself using it less and less
(it's been over a week since last time) I feel like I can now quit weed all together and that it won't be long before I can go without my vapor cigarette.
    But here are my questions..
1: It's noted that cannabis has many positive medical uses and benefits, So what will I be missing out on by no longer using cannabis?
2: What effect does nicotine have on my body when vaporised in my electronic cigarette as opposed to the tar and smoke from a real cigarette.
3: When I get down to 0.0% nicotine in my electronic cigarette how does the liquid affect me, What's in it?
4: is vaporizing cannabis and inhaling the steam even dangerous or unhealthy in any way, if so, why?
Good luck to everyone and remember, It's not just us we are quitting for it's our children and their generation.

what about if a person only smokes pot, instead of cigs? A person does not smoke weed in the same amounts. People generally dont smoke 20 joints a day.. like they do a pack of cigs.. so how about a few joints a day, instead? Si that harmful, say a bowl or maybe 3 joints a day?

weed contains the same amount of toxins as tobacco when burnt ( in fact inhaling anything that is burnt will always have a negative effect), but the thc helps a little to stop inflammation . So it all depends on how much weed you smoke, how long and how you smoke it. Vaping is the safest , least harmful way . Using rolling paper with tobacco is the most harmful way and will hurt the lungs. Even papers with out tobacco can hurt the lungs as the papers can cause inflammation. Yes it does make a difference that you are not smoking as much as cigarettes .However 3 joints a day is gonna hurt your lungs capacity 100% in the long term. You wont be a susceptible as lung cancer as a tobacco smoker( can still get it though) cause of thc but can get bronchitis still.

to be fair if you are smoking as in creating SMOKE then its still the same, HOWEVER if you use a vaporizer (VAPE) that does not burn the product but vaporise it then its better .. Terry Dale if it's a good vape it produces less hash and burning. it's the equivalent to sticking your head over a pan of soup rather than a tab. smoking a tab is vaporised is like putting your head over heating tar. a budg for vapour should be slightly more damp than one used for joints as more water vapour is required not smoke.

+dank jr I take it that you have no idea that for any type of cancer to develop, you must have a genetic disposition for getting cancer. Or really overdo it for years and years with substances that are cancerous. My father has smoked since he was 13 and now he's nearing 70. Not a single problem with his lungs.Your grandpa had a predisposition for cancer and a weak constitution. That's what killed him.

    • @dianneanderson731

+TheFubbick My mother smoked ever since she was 13, too. Now she is in her eighties and has suffered severely for the passed 20 years with COPD. She now must be on oxygen everyday & is confined to her bedroom b\c she can barely walk 5 feet without giving out of breath. So smoking is like gaming with your health b\c no two bodies will react the same to cigarettes & the chemicals that are put in them. Your theory of a predisposition for cancer and a weak constitution is bull. Smoking is a DEADLY GAME like Russian Roulette!!

    • @SM-gt9vg
      @SM-gt9vg 8 лет назад +5

My grandpa smoked and developed emphysema. He had to be hooked up to an oxygen tank 24/7 for the last few years of his life. It eventually killed him when I was 6. I guess if you want to take a gamble and cut your life drastically short so you don't even see your grandkids grow up... My uncle has also been in and out of the hospital for COPD and heart conditions caused by smoking. Then he goes and "jokes" about how he was smoking cigarettes in the bathroom of the hospital during his stay. Really sick and twisted how people will keep puffing on cigs even while in the hospital being treated for conditions caused by smoking. That's not even something to laugh about. Do you laugh about someone who's in the hospital for a heroin overdose and sneaks into the bathroom when the nurses aren't around so they can shoot up? It's not funny, it's just pathetic and sad to see that someone cares so little about their life.

Sav Anna And one of the greatest things about the western world is that we have pretty big freedom when it comes to putting things in our bodies. Since they are in fact our bodies then it would be extremely immoral to prohibit people from doing what they want with them; it still is in most parts regarding recreational drug use.
Alcohol is far more dangerous than most illegal drugs and yet I doon't hear you bitching about that. And I don't hear you bitching about the massively dangerous healthproblems that can come from the majority of foods being sold in supermarkets, with their addatives and chemicals.
The objective truth is that everyone can die at any time from anything. Life is not safe and has never been and thinking that you'll live longer just by not doing one certain thing is stupid and naive. Enjoy your life and experience what you can today because tomorrow you may be dead.

+Benjmain Roberts i had quit smoking since 2014. reason : to save my money.
but stopping smoking because you are afraid to die is not embarassing though. good reasons to stop right?!
Stop smoking because of money, or stop smoking because the fear of cancer, its all a good reasons to stop so you dont have to worry. i only had smoked one year and then i got tired of wasting all this money. i actually told myself to spend money in buying a ps4 and when i got a ps4 i didn't even needed these cigarettes anymore.
One horrible bad side effect is, even now in 2016, i have still dreams that i relapse smoking and when i wake up i can feel it in my lungs(it realy hurts) because the dreams were vivid and then i search my sacks the other day. those smoke relapse dreams are annoying for me but i never go smoke again, its getting too expensive now...
I hope more people will quit smoking, now that the payment is even more expensive..

I fool myself saying Im a casual smoker and these issues only effect the pack a day guy. Anyone else think like I do?

+Aron Harper I sort of agree. In a high stress situation, it can be valuable to have something to release stress, and nicotine DOES help you feel better, if only temporarily. if your worried about health risks, you don't have to stop smoking before you start doing things to reduce your risk. and as you start making more healthy choices, it will probably increase your motivation to quit. finding another behavior or "relaxation ritual" to do instead of smoking would also be very useful. some people smoke because they are addicted, but you sound like you need the stress release at your work. that said, cigs are bad for ya all around, your better off without them...

In all honesty 1 or 2 a day isn't that harmful, your body starts the healing process almost immediately after you've finished a cig. A couple of day will most likely just stump any physical ability and make your cardio ability stay the same.

Please dont start smoking. Every time you get out of the house to enjoy time with friends or just enjoy nature, is seen as an opportunity to smoke. When you get bored, you light up a ciggarette. Everything is circulated around that bad habit and believe me, the gains of smoking are much much less than the losses. Its the most ignorant thing to do

After 12 years of smoking i am able to stop without the symptoms of bad tempered or any bad behavior. And i was able to remove the urge of smoking for only a week. Changing the habit would not work for others specially to those who are weak: like chewing a cum or eating candies and chocolates in exchange of cigarets. Because when those things are not available for you to have. Tendency is you are gonna think of smoking again because you feel like you are being deprived of something. It'S all psychological. I have watched a video that made me quit without experiencing any of the symptoms. In Fact it made me enjoy the whole process. :) i am a happy non smoker now.

Rizen Morales Hi! Are you still fighting it? I stopped 5 or 6 weeks ago, and I think this is the final attempt. I feel great taking deep breaths without coughing. I don't cough at all, only some hoarseness, but not too annoying. I hope it will also disappear. While on my previous attempts I was counting time (how many hours, days, weeks, months) now I don't do it. I said 5 or 6 weeks ago because I can't remember and I don't wanna. I just know the date when I stopped. If I counted time it's because I was in fact thinking of cigarrettes. The fact of not remembering how much time exactly means that I'm not obssessed thinking of tobacco. And that's because now I'm focused on jogging for an entire hour and do my crunches and pectorals. I also stopped eating junk food since I quit smoking with the idea of not gaining weight at all.
Exchanging tobacco for junk food like the ones you mentioned and many many others is a big mistake, too.

I used reishi mushroom extract for 6 weeks. Coughed up a lot of chocolate ice cream, hehe. New doc said I have lungs of a 19 year old after smoking 5 packs a day for 36 years. My former doctors (thanks Obamacare) diagnosed me with lung cancer, emphysema and COPD. New doctor (singular & foreigner) thinks my medical records are an error. He refused to accept that this could be cured, and so fast. I just had to try something since I didn't get to keep my plan or doctor and I couldn't afford what my premium jumped to after diagnosis and lapse due to my former condition=no work=no money to pay. Re-up was triple (wait until this happens to you or a loved one). I could barely walk before, now I can run. I still haven't stopped smoking though. Yes, I'm an idiot. I would like to stop being a slave.

I've been making my own cigarettes with pipe tobacco for years because it's so much cheaper, but I just started blending it with mullen I buy online for about the same price. The mullen instantly soothes the lungs like putting lotion directly onto dry skin. It's an excellent way to taper down on the tobacco until it's entirely removed from your cigarettes. I encourage you to research mullen because it's affordable, effective, and helps heal the lungs so well, but I think you'd have to actually make the cigarettes yourself at home since I don't think mullen is sold in cigarette form.

I quit smoking after 8 years of smoking. But after 21 months of quitting I relapsed. Main reason was my social drinking habit. I thought it was okay to smoke while drinking. Now after 14 months of relapse I have quit smoking forever. Though this time I will be avoiding drinking too. It's been a month without smoking and drinking. I believe this is my new way to healthy life.
