You'd probably dig the Chicago iron parachute pedal. Faithful repro of the 70's tychobrahe parapedal. Also, old a d a flangers are hard to beat! This swami is basically a thin fuzz with some flanging or phasing type effect on it. I just got a shaky jimi pedal. Super affordable univibe. Great stoney tones from these devices. Tony and Geezer and Jeff Beck used parapedals. SLEEP and ORCHID used em too. Wah with a lil extra sumthin dark n funky to it. Rock on
Admire your honesty here mate hahahah, and I like how you admitted it sounds nothing like a sitar without actually knocking the pedal. It seems like the type of pedal that'll just be fun for just playing around with, and experiment with. Still a very cool sound regardless and could probably be used to create some cool raga rock influenced riffs
Absolutely...its a fun pedal...it makes some cool sounds...does it sound like a sitar...no...but that doesn't really matter...because its fun - and in the end thats all that really matters (thats what I think anyways) Thanks Tam...glad you liked the video!
Sounds perfect for the kind of sitar sounds someone doing some stoner/doom thing would want, espedially once it has some other effect on it. Wouldn't pass muster at world music night but it has its place
I remember when this was released and I want to check it out at my local guitar store and there was so disappointed and because I was desperate for a new pedal I bought the reverse delay instead. If I remember rightly there was three pedals that got released at the same time, the reverse delay the Swami and another one I can't remember!
Love revisiting this video, mostly to watch Alex Cringe. It's not too far out in these modern times of bit crushers and lofi simulations. Might even sound nice with a delay/reverb afterwards.
I had one of these when they first came out and returned it back to the shop saying it was broken (I was expecting to sound like George Harrison!) - They hooked it up and went, "nope, that's the sound"! It didn't last long either unfortunately and I couldn't find anyone to fix it so it was retired...This video brought back some vivid memories!!
I heard the Electro Harmonics Ravish Sitar before this video, now that is a great sitar sound, I reckon you could get the same sound as this pedal with a multiFX using a phaser and an octaver, I would add a treble boost also though. I think there are some usable non sitar sounds from this pedal, I don't think you would want it as a permanent addition to a pedal board though.
Thank goodness for RUclips. Want to cover "Within You, Without You" with my band but unable to shell out 6-800 beans for an actual Sitar. Almost bought this abomination of a pedal. Guess I have to go for broke and buy the Ravish one. 🙄
For that tune you will need a Esraj that's what comes in as the tanpura is playing not a whole lot of sitar in that song also the Esraj is what makes that song stand out because of its haunting sound.Alot of stuff went into that song 1.Tanpura 2.Esraj 3.Santoor 4. Tablas 5. Harmonium 6.Sitar. around 4 grand of stuff and you can cover that song lols getting a Dilruba myself too start learning too play had a nice sitar but sold it my problem is Iam left handed so the sitar was a pain in the butt for me but the Dilruba is going too be made left handed for me. Amazon has good prices on Sitars plain and electric models good reviews also check them out and good luck:) My sitar was a Rada Krishna model it was a top notch model got it at Ali Akbar college but their stuff is high price.
Correct me if I'm wrong but an Esraj is similar to a Sitar but played with a bow...a Tanpura looks similar to a Sitar too but it has no frets and is pretty much only playing drones and scale notes to accompany the main instrument...I hope I got that right!
No its more like a cello Indian style stands upright it gives the haunting sound but puts out a sweet sound also. When sitting down you sort of cradle it. It hits a harder tone then the Dilruba look up electric Dilruba the guy Noah Wilson is playing it along with a Sitar he made really great sound out of both of them. With the Tanpura it sets the mood for the raga that is going too be played yes just 4 strings and with the way you move your fingers across them plus there is a small thread on the bottom of each string that makes them vibrate.
+Jax Music Supply haha...yes...none of these 60s series pedals were very useful...I still think they are great though - in their own special way. And like you said lots of fun...and thats what its all about - for me anyways!!
The SuperFunAwesomeHappyTime Pedal Show! I’m really into danelctro gear as it is and this is such a bizarre pedal and it looks like you guys really enjoy it! Hoping to buy the back talk reverse delay next to add to my collection
I remember when i got mine back on the day I thought it was broke because of all the noise it made from doing nothing. When I took it back for a replacement, I was really disappointed at the effect.
Pretty much zero Danelectro pedals sound like they say they will. THAT BEING SAID, they're all cool, and they all make unique noise. That low-fi kind of sound is something I'm a huge fan of. My French Toast sounds like fucking 16 bit music sometimes, but it's awesome and it pisses my band leader off.
Faked Futret - consider that £80-£90 was worth a bit more nearly 15 years ago than it is more recently. (£ pounds, not USD) It's not a good pedal; I would advise against getting one.
Nice one guys. Equipment reviews are usually so dry. Yeah its a piece of shit pedal, but it's unique in it's shitness! and for me that makes it cool. If I saw one in a pawn shop for a tenner, that's £10 sterling, I'd buy it, and find a way of utilising it! No point in reviewing this one too deeply, it is what it is.
Thanks Lee...absolutely...I think there is a place for everything...its not a "sitar in a box" but its great for a unique sound if you are after something a bit different!
In which bit? I think from memory he/I was playing Phrygian Dominant (5th mode of the Harmonic Minor) in E at the beginning...with maybe a few different notes thrown in at times...playing semitone intervals followed by whole tone and/or tone and a half intervals gives you that kinda sound
Thanks for taking the time to respond. It has a psychedelic tone to it which my band are trying to capture, do you think the Phrygian dominant would be good to use for making songs with a psychedlic feel?
Yes I guess...the Harmonic Minor and some of its modes have some interesting tonal qualities...all depends on the chord progressions though because some of these modes will need some pretty specific chord progressions...but in the end it's all about experimenting with stuff! Hope that makes sense...?!?
@@TSFAHTPS Im just gonna spurge for the EH Ravish Sitar. I will probably get much more out of that. The Swarma sounds pretty unusable for anything to me
I got this thing in like 2002 and it was the one thing guaranteed to get one of my parents to come into my room and say "enough already".
Haha..
I play in a stoner/space rock band and I need this, real bad!!
What is the band called?

It’s like a octave ringmod with a flanger.
Yeah something like that

Sounds perfect for the kind of sitar sounds someone doing some stoner/doom thing would want, espedially once it has some other effect on it. Wouldn't pass muster at world music night but it has its place
Sounds weird and messed up. So I just bought one.
Haha...yes!!

I think it was the Psycho Flange. The other two were the Sitar Swami and the Back Talk delay. ☮️
How would this sound on “Paint It, Black “ or “Norwegian Wood “, for example?
I'm still surprised the guy who came up with this pedal got to keep his job, and this pedal was released.
Haha...
What?
That’s slang for this pedal is dumb
It was the owner ..

It sounds just like their French toast octave pedal, but 200$ more expensive
Oh...gotta try that one...thanks Krisco
I wonder how a Dano baby sitar would sound through this
+Zaq Kickasola (Da Shurif) I like the sound of that...who's got a baby sitar out there that we could use??
+The SuperFunAwesomeHappyTime Pedal Show! a baby sitar is in my future
I wonder how a baby sitter would sound through this
That would be the aural equivalent of John Malkovich going through the John Malkovich hole
this pedal is actually not that bad if you turn down the guitars volume and don't. play. chords.
Absolutely!!

Yeah I really like the Back talk...we did a demo of it too...great sounding pedal!
anyone know a website that gives a good list of the danelectro pedal line (even of discontinued products) because their website doesn't give any info
I have this pedal! And I'm pretty sure I still have the bottleneck that came with it somewhere. But so far I haven't found any use for it.
Oh...it used to come with a bottleneck? I didn't know that
Yeah. I still have the box with all the cards and manual AND the bottleneck. If you send give me your email adress I'll send you pictures.
That is really cool. A delay after it could work really well.
Subscribed.
Thanks Paul
After listening to lots of reviews on this , and similar , well a mate of mine has a sitar , time to start learning the sitar !
Watched this video several times, there’s only so many times you do that before you end up buying it just to experience it yourself 😂

It probably doesn't quite nail the putch because sitar use microtunings
Octave Flange
Heard they’re good for stashing stuff inside, that’s why expensive.🤷🏽♂️
Wow. I am speechless. :-)
You can get some nice 60s sounds out of that just with your demonstration proved that.

tried one of these out in a shop in about 2002
how much did it go for?
they retailed new then for about £80. Not cheap!
+Iggytommy for the prices i have seen on ebay thats fairly ok

I cant decide which model was worst: the Sitar Swami or the Psycho Flange

+Iggytommy The Shift Daddy.

did you mention the word 'flanger'?
but can you get the sitar sound without the gain ?

why call it sitar if in fact it is just a octave-phaser?
yep...thats pretty much all it is...and octave phaser down a very long pipe!
