Aw, in the summer you will be reminiscing about the ice-skating rink, the bonfires in the snow and the hot cups of cocoa. You make the most of each season! That's awesome!
I know I'm late but I just wanted to say that I have dealt with manic depression since I was thirteen and nothing has ever motivated me to get things done like your videos do. I am able to watch you and think to myself "let's just try to get one thing done like Hannah!" and it ends up letting me get way more done too. Anyways you're just such a lovely person and I so appreciate your videos. 🤍
Your roof needs to be insulated more than walls to keep the warm side warm and cold side cold. Also a vapour barrier to keep the heat from escaping. I live in Yukon. We get lots of snow lately. Winter always a struggle.
My father used to build us a skating rink every year. He found that building the ice in thin mist like layers made the ice solid with no air pockets and holes in it.
You had an amazing dad. I did too,but he was gone way too much. Mother was there, but she had ot of hidden pain. Seems nothingcould hide from me,but i tried to fix it and be a child, doesn't work well. But oh how i respect them, and havedeep lovefor them, always, and forever. They led us to Christ, and all 6 received SALVATION,Main thing! Forever Love,in Jesus name❤❤
Insulation. Lack of, and lack of ventilation along the underside of the roof. If the roof angle has been incorporated into the build, there will need to be better care of the shingles due to heat transfer through the roof. Snow can be an insulating blanket, but if there is a heat transfer to that snow, it will melt. She's learning the hard way, but so did I.
It’s definitely insulation! I haven’t had time to get to roofing since moving in (I’ve only lived here a year!) but I plan to prioritize it this summer 😊♥️

As a Minnesotan who lived way too many years battling ice dams, they are crazy hard to deal with. One particular winter, we went away for a week and came back to ice dam hell. I filled panty hose with salt melt and laid them over the dams to create a channel to let the water drain off. And it worked but not before the water did go up under the shingles and we got water in the house. They are a frigging nightmare. Good luck and keep up with the raking. And definitely get some insulation. ❤️
Glad to know I’m not alone 😭 plan is to fix up the roof this summer and get those heat cords placed along the edges so I don’t have to worry about it next year!

The only reason I know about ice dams is that I’ve watched a ton of This Old House. Lots of attic insulation and modern roofing materials greatly decrease the chances of it occurring. As for the ice rink, the ground warming up underneath is melting it from the underside. Ice rinks are poured on top of sand. If you put down pond liner and sand next year it might do better.

Ice dams have been a particular problem this year in southern Ontario too this is the first year I’ve ever had to deal with it so it might not actually have been part of your childhood experience
HANNAH, my mom had a rink out back as a child. It was dug down about 6 inches below ground level. It was filled like a pond after the ground had frozen.
Good to see your cottage and compound. Truly becominga year-round home. Diy Zamboni was a clever attempt at fixing ice rink. Enjoy Florida. Stay well. TY for sharing your adventures.
You've got a beautiful gem there Hannah, so pretty with the lights and fire! I really respect your ability to endure winter in such a positive manner, (another southern Ontarian here) and I'm cold all the time! ❄️👍👋🇨🇦
I live in the tropics and the amount of work it takes to simply exist in the snow looks exhausting. That being said, it's so insanely beautiful and the ice skating looks magical. I love seeing your winter vids because it takes me back to my childhood and out of reality and I love that 💕
Matt is such a cool dude...and rare kind of guy....You are like twin souls...great match.....i love you both...love to see adults who still know how to PLAY. laugh, dance, sing, skate and fall. and get back up.
I'd love to see a video about living in a cabin things you have to have on hand. Like your gear (clothes/shoes), the roof shovel, propane, etc. I'm moving to Alaska (from California! Going to be a weather shock for sure lol) and watching this video I learned so much haha. And you're such a handy and clever person so I'm sure you would have good recommendations/advice for anyone :)
The roof heats up and water works it way down . But once the water gets over the eaves the roof in longer heated so the water freezes causing a dam. The water backs up and finds its way into anything that isnt sealed. Thats why on some houses they put heated elements on the eaves. Anyway have fun
Girl get yourself some cast iron pans and start cooking on the wood stove! It will save you a ton on propane when you're already heating the house with the stove. Cast iron is the best (healthiest) to cook with. Plus, it will last your whole life with proper care. I have all cast iron now and love it for everything from making sourdough bread, to stir fry, pies, you name it!
Every week I look forward to your videos - they are so lovely, fun, and great to watch! It's a nice escape to vicariously experience the outdoors and cabin life. Keep up the wonderful work and thank you for what you do!
Last winter 🥶 during Texas Arctic blast I had ice damming on two parts of my roof. My roof is still not fixed. I had my roof leak in two places, 2 pipes burst, and my ceiling cave in, in two places. It’s been a year and a month still going through construction. Love your videos. I have a migraine today. It made me smile. Y’all are too cute 🥰. Blessings and Peace ✝️❤️
Lol! Love that you guys are enjoying the roof rake! They became so popular here in Connecticut in 2011 because we had these huge series of snow storms that caused a lot of people with flat roofs to cave in. Then everyone ran out to get one. At that point, we couldn't find one in stores anymore, so I got my Dad one off of Amazon and he was out using it every storm even though our roof isn't flat.
Beautiful video Hannah, thanks for taking us along. The cabin looks warm and cozy , the ice rink looks like fun and its nice to see you happy and surrounded by those who love you. Your videos are inspiring and a Great way to spend a little time on Sunday 💗🌟👍
Winter is hard but spring is SO close now. Currently we are tapping trees for sap and syrup making. It's the best way to round out the end of a long winter, keeps you busy and before you know it. BOOM. Spring.
I live in Wisconsin and know about roof water damning. I used a roof rake to clear the snow off of the eaves but that just moved the problem further up the roof. I ended up shoveling off the whole roof. Then in the summer I put Ice and water guard under the shingles five feet up from the eaves .
Hannah, for next year: Create an embankment around the area with the snow you shovel, leaving a gap to walk through. Use a light spray nozzle on your hose and mist over the embankment on a really cold night to "set" it. DO NOT USE A TARP. For one thing it creates air gaps which crack your ice; for another it doesn't really protect your yard. Several thinner layers will create denser ice because water expands, and it's also self-leveling. This will also use less water and won't damage your yard as much in the spring. When you use your Zamboni stick-thingy, splash small amounts of warm (not hot) water from a bucket and work in smaller sections. This can be done just as easily with either an industrial-sized scrubbing broom (think Carol Burnett) or some sort of deadman (T-shaped broom handle thingy) with a towel wrapped around it. Girl, you work too hard! It's one of the things I admire about you though. When you're done skating you can use the tarp to cover your ice. So you don't have to shovel it twenty times a day. And make everybody help you pull it over FFS! Sometimes I watch Hannah doing all the work with everyone else just staring at her. 😆 I grew up in the Great Lakes region and this video made me so homesick! We'd have an igloo at one end for warming up, snow people at the other and hockey nets. I wish we would have had lights but the rink was always at least 100+ feet from the house and there were no battery packs for the lights back then. Honestly I think my grandmother hid all the outdoor extension cords so that the neighbor kids would have to go home at dark. Your lights just make it so magical. My brothers and I would stay out skating in the dark until one of us were crying...usually me. 😂 Seriously, thanks for bringing back such fun memories! I hope my instructions were more helpful than annoying. Thanks again for the warm fuzzies!
You get icicles if you don't have enough insulation in your roof. Or if the temperature keeps going up and down quickly and the melting snow freezes when dripping out of the roof.

Hannah your videos bring me such comfort, I legitimately wait to watch your new uploads until I’ve made dinner so that I can sit down, eat and watch your new content. That or try to not watch them for awhile so I can binge them like a tv show. You inspire me to lead this type of life smm & I can’t thank you enough for literally just continuing to make content
Ice dams have been a particular problem this year in southern Ontario too this is the first year I’ve ever had to deal with it so it might not actually have been part of your childhood experience
Thank you for sharing! Prayers for yall to stay safe, well, healthy, healed and protected, amen 🙏 ❤ 😊 🙌 see yall next time!
HANNAH, my mom had a rink out back as a child. It was dug down about 6 inches below ground level. It was filled like a pond after the ground had frozen.
I just can’t get my head around the cold and snow! Just wow …. Love from Australia 🇦🇺 🦘
FYI, when your making your rink and you just want a nice finish fill a 45 gallon drum with water and tip it over to flood the rink makes nice finish
This video has such a wholesome energy I could cry
Wonderful ❤ Such gorgeous goofing around and making the most of your Midwest winter.
And now your problem in Fla. already. Lovely times.
I absolutely adore him for you and it gives me the biggest smile that he tries WHATEVER you’re into hannah ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The wood stove looks great and is such a good addition. Love that you have the added benefit of cooking on it! 🙂
Thanks Hannah and Matt, for brightening my day!
🍃🤗🍃
Your life is so aesthetic.
Thank you for making the content that you do. Watching your videos is like a warm hug ☺️
Good to see your cottage and compound. Truly becominga year-round home.
Diy Zamboni was a clever attempt at fixing ice rink. Enjoy Florida. Stay well. TY for sharing your adventures.
This video is helping me a lot to look at the bright side of life. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Hannah and Matt you guys are absolutely beautiful together 🥰Heart warming ✌🏼💚
You've got a beautiful gem there Hannah, so pretty with the lights and fire! I really respect your ability to endure winter in such a positive manner, (another southern Ontarian here) and I'm cold all the time! ❄️👍👋🇨🇦
I live in the tropics and the amount of work it takes to simply exist in the snow looks exhausting. That being said, it's so insanely beautiful and the ice skating looks magical. I love seeing your winter vids because it takes me back to my childhood and out of reality and I love that 💕
You and Matt together is one of my favorite things😭🥰 so wholesome all around.
Thank you thank you for staying at the cabin (almost) all winter! You helped keep my winter warm fuzzies all season long! Have fun in Florida! xo
Wow! Your own private skating rink!💙. Thanks for always making such cosy videos, I can dream away in!💛
This is just too precious! How cool.
I haven’t seen a new video in a long time! Great to see you happy and healthy! Enjoy Florida ☀️
The roof heats up and water works it way down . But once the water gets over the eaves the roof in longer heated so the water freezes causing a dam. The water backs up and finds its way into anything that isnt sealed. Thats why on some houses they put heated elements on the eaves. Anyway have fun
Your videos feel like a Northern Exposure episode and it makes my heart very warm
The montage of you and Matt skating together was so romantic. I was in tears. My Goddess thank you for sharing your deep Love with the world 🥺😍
The wholesome spin montage coupled with the adorable music is just too much 🥰
Hanna thank you it looks so magical the snow your cabins and you and Matt
You're one of my favorite RUclipsrs. I love that I never know what to expect! An ice rink in your yard! Wow, you always amaze me 💗😊⛸
Love the music you put in for his spins!! Beautiful couple
The scenery is picture perfect, ice skating under the lights, a bonfire in the snow and Matt chokes on his hot drink…what more could you ask for!
Your videos give off such positive energy. I love how raw and genuine your uploads are.Your channel is my safe space ;)
Winter is hard but spring is SO close now. Currently we are tapping trees for sap and syrup making. It's the best way to round out the end of a long winter, keeps you busy and before you know it. BOOM. Spring.
I truly look forward to Sat/Sun to view your videos and Isabel’s. I love you ladies.
I live in Wisconsin and know about roof water damning. I used a roof rake to clear the snow off of the eaves but that just moved the problem further up the roof. I ended up shoveling off the whole roof. Then in the summer I put Ice and water guard under the shingles five feet up from the eaves .
love ur vids hannah ur such a vibe. hope u and matt last forever. thanks for the joyful content. u inspire me!
Hannah, for next year:
Create an embankment around the area with the snow you shovel, leaving a gap to walk through. 😆
I grew up in the Great Lakes region and this video made me so homesick!
There are heat tapes that you can put on your roof to melt the snow and ice and you may need more insulation in the walls and ceiling.
The dedication Mat put into doing spins on ice cating is remarkable 😄..hanna, you've chosen a good one
It is so enjoyable to just sit and watch your videos and relax wish I was young again I used to love to ice skate and watching you and Matt it’s pretty awesome have a wonderful trip to Florida
I've always lived in Australia so I've only seen snow a couple of times when I've gone skiing. I know you say its hard but damn its beautiful. I wish I could experience a full winter in snow like that just once in my life
Your videos remind me of my childhood. I love your adventures.
